  • A new boating schedule causes us to lose a few crew members, so we are opening it up to our viewers. We will be in the Abacos, Berrys, Nassau and Bimini starting around May 20th. Check our schedule, posted on UA-cam, Facebook and Patreon for details.
    Meanwhile, we tackle a few maintenance items and begin prepping for the cruise.

    I admire how calm y'all are in a crisis...like misplacing passports and losing phone and wallet. Most people would be so stressed they could not function. You guys take everything in stride and keep on rolling. Of course, maybe the alcohol helps a little, but your nature is so enviable. Y'all have fun no matter what comes your way, repair jobs and all. Cheers!

    I would put a towel down on the kitchen counter. Some nasty stuff can accumulate in dark wet places. also, while you have that thing open getting it unstuck, I would shoot a small amount of silicone in there. not WD4, silicone.

    That AC cooling pump will continue to seize. Unless you can lube the bearings. Which are inside the sealed motor casing.

  • @jamesdunn3387
    @jamesdunn3387 Місяць тому +1

    I caught that Captain swapped the pump impeller and housing as well. But the problem is the motor. The motor has a spot where it stops and can’t restart itself. It might be a capacitor that is failing. Or it could be a bad spot on a coil. When the motor can’t start itself moving in either of those two cases, the electrons used to power it will convert to heat. This could be really bad on a boat and cause a fire. It is an expensive pump, but a fire would be a disaster and swapping out a pump is relatively inexpensive for the piece of mind.

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  Місяць тому

      The motor always starts right up. t is only when we leave the boat for months at a time that it has an issue. We never leave the boat with the Air Conditioning pump on.

    Ed have you considered installing one of the newer split unit air conditioning systems that are designed for homes but may work on a boat such as yours? I am guessing your fly bridge is big enough to find an out of the way spot to put the outside part of the system and your boat has enough inside wall space to locate a place to install the inside part of the system. I’ve never been a fan of running a water cooled AC unit on a boat for long periods of time while being away from the boat. I would be very interested to see if the system worked adequately on your boat and what your thoughts are on the system.

    • @tryingnottosink9107

    We would be perfect candidates, almost, to join you except for the fact we are currently at Rudder Cut Cay on our boat. It would be great to run across you as we are headed back up Long Island, Cat Island, Eluthera, Spanish Wells, Abaco and then Grand Bahama, Freeport around the time you should be heading in the other direction.
    This year has been a completely different experience for us since the last 2 years doing this. Temps have been in the mid to high 70's with a few low 80's, and humidity only 60%. Been here over a month now and have only seen rain on 2 occasions and not a peep of thunder and lightening. Water is colder at about 75-78 degrees and has been pretty windy more days than not. Not once have we thought about starting up the A/C due to heat. Finding the weather window to cross was difficult and even the day we came across was pretty rough, but at least 7-10 days until another chance. Good luck on getting across, and again, hope to run across you. We will most likely be staying in Spanish wells for the first week of June and maybe a little longer, our favorite place to just hang out. Boat name is Lady Bug, 46 foot Maxum.
