It has been 6 years since we last gave a tour of our yacht and a lot has changed. Join us for a tour and we will show you how we made her our home on the water.
i was a Hatteras dealer for many years as Hansen yachts in jacksonville fla i sold many of these classic yachts over the years i think you have outfitted and maintained your vessel beautifully i have watched all your videos and look forward to following your travels
I can’t believe we’ve been watching you guys for six years already! Seems like it’s only been 2 or 3! Love watching your travels. As more of a beginner, makes me feel like I can figure this all out too. 😊
That was a lot! First of all, thank you for the time you take to show us about your travels and how you live. We have a home on the ICW in the Elizabeth City area and just bought an Aquila 32 sport. Nothing like your boat as far as capability, but it will make for some wonderful memories on the ICW. I didn't read through all of your comments so I don't know if anybody mentioned anything about your tiles for your master head. Having done a lot of bathrooms and kitchens in homes, I can only recommend against doing anything that has hard to clean divots or grout. Go smooth all the way. You'll never regret it.
Hi Mr Ed and Mrs Lynn, thank you for showing your boat. We never heard of an inbuild(is this the right word) airfryer. We are loking now if these are available in the Netherlands. We love the new floor. Wish you a lot of beautiful weather, love, health and great memories in 2024. We find you both very warm and nice people. Have a great new years eve. Greetings from Amsterdam, Jurgen and Wicky
Thank you so much. And thanks for joining us on the journey! Here is what we bought off Amaon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0872DQV7Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Very nice boat and I love the looks of that era of boat. My boat is a '78 Prairie 36 designed by Jack Hargrave who designed many of that era Hatteras' probably including your boat. All the newer boats look like tennis shoes to me. LOL!
Beautiful Yacht. The best systems walkthrough that I've seen, it is mind boggling to me how much and varied the equipment is that goes into making it all work. 32dc, 120 and 220ac, many ac units, water filters, strainers, engines, transmissions, props, turbos, water makers, stabilizers, gensets, battery banks, navigation systems, charts, chart plotters, auto pilot, communication, sound, entertainment systems, depth alarms, fish finders, zinc monitors, anchor systems, windlass, hull cleaning..... and this roster being just a tiny part of the overall task of yacht maintenance.
@@tryingnottosink9107 I guess so. Good thing yours is large enough that you have room to move around fairly freely, and maintain things. The shot of the exterior at 00:14 is stunning.
Thank you for the video. Your yacht looks Beautiful and you have a lot of living space to entertain. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. see you next Sunday.
Thanks for the tour, which now I'm exhausted after seeing all the storage and systems on the boat, which should give people an idea of what's involved when you get into this size boat and why they cost so much to own and maintain all that. But I love the boat! Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🍾🥂🍸🍹🍸
Thank you for the tour of your boat, it is beautiful. A few years ago I was looking to buy a larger boat and found your channel while looking up information on Hatteras yachts. Your information had a big influence on me and I ended up buying a 1967 50' Hatteras. I still have plenty to work on now, it's a boat, but you have given me some great ideas on some of the upgrades that I'd like to get done in the next couple of years. Thank you for all of the info that you have shared over the past several years.
You sure have a very nice boat, which has tons of space. Only 9' longer than ours, but it looks like your boat is twice the size. Love what you did with the added on bar top and the additional salon space. The enclosed fly bridge is something we are looking at this moment. During summer not necessary, but in the spring and autumn or even winter months it would make our life a lot more comfortable. Thanks for the tour. 👍
Watching this and realising I’ve watched since the start and all the upgrades you mention I remember them being done at the time, can’t believe that is 6 years. Happy New Year when it comes and great cruising in 2024.
A great tour. The boat is so livable, but it's is also so lived in, so full of life. So many other boat tours are sterile, making it hard to know how it would be to actually live there. Kudos for the tour, and Try Not to Sink!
79 I was 11 years old. That boat was probably built in my hometown High Point NC. My mother would always drive by the plant I used to imagine where those boats were headed and the adventures they would have . I’m not sure when they closed the plant but Hatteras Yachts is a childhood memory for me.
Thanks for the tour. Still Love Her glad to see you taking good care. Would have like to see the two brass instruments upstairs- barometer/clock probably. I came aboard about the 8V71's and you are treating them well, Port is tierder than Starboard. I recall an exhaust issue quickly repaired and would have liked to hear the fuel filter saga again. I thought you actually had it you just did not know why or something. No matter! go change the oil!!!!
And I generally don’t comment you’re doing a fantastic job with your boat. I’m still in the process of trying to get my wife to buy into the cruising lifestyle. That being said… The water maker that you showed in your boat tour should be run. I understand that it’s cheaper to purchase the water that you have been using because the membranes that are connected to the water maker are expensive, but you really should exercise those membranes. It will end up costing you even more if you don’t run them regularly, and flush them regularly I think you will find That, although membranes are extremely expensive if you keep up regular maintenance and regular flushing/making water, it will benefit you in the long term. Just saying I love your videos keep up the good work happy holidays and happy new year. I will have a single scotch. And toast the both of you looking forward to the next video. Sincerely, Jim.
We were told when we bought the boat that the water maker was "pickled." Whatever that means. And that it was safe to leave it that way until we wanted to use it. Thanks for joining us on the adventure! Good luck with the wife. Happy Holidays!
Beautiful yacht. I’ve been watching you for some time. I’m envious of your boat but I would have preferred to not listen to loud background music. To me it would have much more enjoyable without it. Keep up the good work on your videos.
that old control panel was for chart printing of harbors from different sources. you have inspired me to want to play guitar on the various boardwalks you are always visiting
The trade-off of the outside walkways is well worth it for a liveaboard. My wife and I are about to close on the sale of our land based res, and will be looking for something very similar. Thank you for taking the time to show and explain everything as you have, may your journeys be blessed.
Thank you for the tour of your beautiful Hatteras, my wife and I lived on our Silverton 453 motor yacht for twenty years and they were the best times of our lives. I truly enjoy your videos so keep up the great work. Captain one question for you when you gave the tour where is your EPIRB ? ❤❤❤😊
Very cool! We have a ditch bag on the hook with the throwable life preserver. The EPIRB is in the ditch bag. We also have another one that is out of date but we keep it on the lower helm anyway.
Would love to know more about your remote- read fuel gauge project. That was one of the first “you have got to be kidding me” things we discovered aboard our new-to-us ‘83 CPMY. To the commenter above asking about tablet mounts - we just purchased a HoverBar Duo from Twelve South and love it.
Any chance it’s in a different playlist? I’ve been through every video in the “This Old Boat” playlist and I couldn’t find anything about the fuel gauge. I did notice where the gauge goes from the old one to the new one in successive videos but no mention of the actual project.
Awesome update video. My wife and I are 3 seasons in plus watching new videos like this one. Few questions: 1) Hatteras 58s that we have seen only have 3 cabins with galley down - what is the actual length of your yacht? 2) have you considered solar panels & wind turbine to replace/compliment the generator? Merry Christmas.
The 58s with a cockpit are galley down. The MYs are galley up with a forth stateroom. The length overall is 65 feet. We have two solar panels on the fly bridge roof. I did a video on it several years ago. The wind turbines are too noisy for me.
Your boat always looks great Lynn and Ed. And whether you knew it at the time when you bought the yacht or not, your yacht has a lot of great features not found on the majority or mid-sized Hatteras! Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! It’s been another great year watching your videos, you guys are the best, and very much appreciate all the informative videos for us new boaters, I’ve learned a lo5from you! I was wondering if you could explain or possibly do a very informative video on how the inverters work? Have a great New Year!!
We will be cruising back by you guys again In February as we head from Daytona to the Keys. We might come looking for you two in Titusville along the way as I noticed you didnt have any Jack Daniel's in your liquor stash! How many hours do you have on the ol' DD's?
Nothing like Hatteras I have 06 50' conv Love the boat . Hatteras is always available for info . So here's the question what would you choose if you bought something else? Me I love the hatt 54 gt ..... my pick for you guys , a nice Fleming or maybe outer reef .... your turn what would it be
We do like the Fleming, probably my second favorite, but I think I would get either a Hatteras 70 (for more room and a better layout) or a Hatteras LRC, for better range. We love Hatteras.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to a great couple. @tryingnottosink9107 did you consult with the doctor, or you decided on yourself that you can't get certified ? I have asthma myself and have been diving for the past 18 years. 😁😁
@tryingnottosink9107 you just need to get your doctor to sign the medical form from the agency you wish to get your cert from. And give it to the instructor when you begin your course. And you good to go. 😃😃
Where did you get the blinds you have in the saloon? We are looking to get blinds like that for our Mainship. I love how you can pull them down from the top.
Thank you for showing us around your beautiful boat. Have a question. What was that electrical part in your generator room that looked like a tape player. It was white with red wires going to it. 31.06 was on the timer when you see it in the video.
I think you are talking about a solar charger , which we use to regulate the power coming out of our port alternator when we use it to charge our lithium batteries. I did a video on it about two years ago.
Love the boat! That is my dream retirement home. I have to ask. How limiting on your time away from the dock is refrigeration? It would seem you would need to provision frequently with only a few small refrigerators. That's probably not cheap in the Bahamas.
When at anchor, we run the generator for air conditioning at night. That charges our 4 lithium batteries enough to run the refrigerators, etc all day. So we are never without refrigeration. We have a drawer refrigerator, a small refrigerator on the bridge and a beverage refrigerator, plus a freezer. Between them all we have a good amount of cold storage . We provision for 2 months before leaving for the Bahamas. Lots of canned and boxed foods. Every couple of weeks we stop at an island for perishables like milk, bread, fruits.
I'd like to make a guess on how you know your shower holds four people do you practice with your Barber Shop quartet in there? I bet the Acoustics are amazing.
If we anticipate rough seas, we lay the chairs and table down. But that is rare. Mostly we do nothing. The countertop appliances have rubber feet and rarely move. We do secure many smaller items around the boat, lock up liquor cabinets and put the bird cage on the floor. Lyn has a leaving dock routine.
Hello Ed & Lynn from Yardley PA! I was wondering if you can recall where you bought the brackets that hold your bar to your galley counter top. We are in the process of copying your idea (love it) but the bracket geometry seems to be a challenge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What do you use to mount your ipads on the flybridge? I am installing a Furono wireless radar that transmits to iOs devices via wifi. Triton is looking awesome!
The vessel appears to be in relatively good condition. Most of these are pretty beat up, if not totally derelict. Kind-a weird they don't take it out for a spin so we can see what it's got where it matters..
Not a single video. Just the two hundred or so that we posted. They are numbered in order if that helps. It would probably be a good idea to create such a video, but would take a very long time to gather the footage together. Perhaps, someday.
If you go for induction cooktop ,,you will need pur wave inverter,,,i know you have the generator, but at anchor i try with a cheap inverter 8 minutes for bag of pop Corn 😂
Great boat for age! So well cared for.
I would love living on the water, its just that im not handy to fix things. And the cost! U are blessed.

Nice home away from home. Are those Detroit's original? How many hours? Merry Christmas!!
Yes they are! About 4000 hours.
Roger-Out??
Roger-Out!!!!
Ut oh!
hey can you guys do a yacht annual cost breakdown like you did in 2020 ?
oh and Happy New Year!
I'll try to get to that in a couple weeks.
@@tryingnottosink9107 Makes sense. Thanks for the reply. I hope to retire to a boat so I appreciate the intel.
I'd like to make a guess on how you know your shower holds four people do you practice with your Barber Shop quartet in there? I bet the Acoustics are amazing.
How did you guess! 😁
Yikes, now that's a tour
Thanks!
Merry Christmas y'all. So captain, how do you know you get four in the shower? HEEEHEEEHEEEHEEE!!
😎😎😎😁
Great video. What do you do to secure the chairs, table, and countertop appliances when you go out to sea?
If we anticipate rough seas, we lay the chairs and table down. But that is rare. Mostly we do nothing. The countertop appliances have rubber feet and rarely move. We do secure many smaller items around the boat, lock up liquor cabinets and put the bird cage on the floor. Lyn has a leaving dock routine.
Yeah, was thinking about that bird cage
Hah. Similar approaches. A buncha junk on the lower helm we never use. That's a great boat. Ours is a Hatteras clone, '99 Vantare 70' LOA.
😁😎 Thanks!
Hello Ed & Lynn from Yardley PA! I was wondering if you can recall where you bought the brackets that hold your bar to your galley counter top. We are in the process of copying your idea (love it) but the bracket geometry seems to be a challenge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Just dumped the liquor overboard. You don’t need it I ain’t never drink and I have been fine with it.

Thanks for watching. I guess you are new to the channel. We have literally hundreds of videos of the boat on the water.
do you guys have a vid that shows soup to nuts what you guys did on your journey, starting with the boat acquisition....plz advise..thanks...
I did not know that. Fortunately, we have a true sine wave inverter.
Need a canvas cover for homemade table?
We definitely plan to do that after we refinish the table.
It's an anemometer
