There are a lot of people that are so ungrateful, you can’t believe you are related. Never, ever loan a family member or friend money. What you do is give them a one time gift with no additional monetary gifts of that size moving forward. You’ll save your relationships if you abide by that rule.
I still remember the first time a friend screwed me over for money. It wasn't a lot--half a phone bill--but it hurt. There's nothing worse than having to chase down someone to pay you back YOUR money. I stopped feeling bad pretty quickly tho: for the price of half a phone bill, I learned my 'friend' was actually a user & a taker & not worth my effort. Money can show you who someone is. More importantly, I started learning how to say no--maybe the most important financial lesson you can learn. I don't loan money now. Period. I've given money to people I care about--modest amounts that I won't miss or regret.

The defendant is scammer, downloaded a form for the so-called contract and never signed to. Then claims she is a struggling artist, yeah of the scamming kind that scams her entire family for money.
I feel like the flea market thing was a loan too. they had different opinions on how much of it was a loan and how much an investment - but the contract that the defendant HERSELF made had part of it as a loan. (unfortunately they don't have a signed contract between them). I'm also VERY suspicious that the venture never seemed to make money. It sounds more like the multiple people who had put money into it got in a disagreement over something personal (or maybe money/reimbursement related?) and started to back out - and then the defendant was left paying them all out until she was left with not enough to continue on her own). it sounds like the plaintiff is just too nice and didn't ask for profit sharing along the way like the others did. and then got stung for her niceness. the defendant rolls through life saying things like she'll pay you when she has it. and then she just doesn't. I wonder how many of her relatives and friends have 'loaned' her money. I wouldn't be surprised if she has a reputation amongst her family and friends for doing this. with friends and family always be prepared for a loan to turn into a gift. yeah you trust the person, but even if the other person fully intended on paying it back - stuff can happen and situations can change. I wonder if the defendant ever actually has a job that she has to work at (like a job where she works for someone else, where she punches in and out and reports to someone) and actually understands how many hours of work she TOOK from her cousin.
I disagree with the verdict. Just because the defendant is smiling and waving at the plaintiff, doesn't mean they're cool. The plaintiff clearly didn't want to embrace the defendant. She was promised a return from an investment. The defendant thinks everything is a joke. MAKE HER PAY IT ALL.
