Avenged Sevenfold perform "So Far Away" live at the GRAMMY Museum.
A kid, around the age of 8-9, requesting So Far Away....
Bless his soul, and his parents for letting him into A7X
Far younger than that!!! I’d say 4,5,6
I actually got into A7X around that age, fun fact lol
You're so far away, he's like 3-4
He's going places for sure! Great taste and good on his parents for introducing him to great bands as opposed to the current day crap that passes off as music.
I’d say he’s around 3!
This is honestly the best “unplugged” session I’ve ever heard. No auto tune. No electric instruments. Just pure talent, professional ability, and soul.
ua-cam.com/video/ylqM3jDB-L8/v-deo.html
I don't know why electric instruments take away from the talent but ok
@@Ezper-2099 he’s getting at you can kinda do things to electric instruments you can’t really do that with a acoustic they don’t but
You probably wouldn’t say that, if you’ve heard Alice n chains unplugged

"We'll just play the first verse" played the whole f*cking song. What a legend
They also played it flawlessly👍🤘🤘
@Van peter The singer honestly probably loves how dorky his usual sunglasses make him look
@Van peter I like his voice, and this was especially good of a performance from him. He just also happens to pull off the sunglasses look well!
With the pain in their hearts besides!! 😢
@@yupsure Sure did!!
Matt's an absolute mad lad hitting those notes sitting down in an acoustic unplugged environment, maintaining the grit and with no hesitation.
He hits those notes even better now in 2023
Even though is voice was messed up, he still nailed it. Would love to know how he would perform this now.

I used to sing this song with my brother on repeat. He died last year and this part hits so hard "Plans of what our futures hold, foolish lies of growing old. It seems we're so invincible, but the truth is so cold. Now and then i try to find, a place in my mind. Where you can stay, you can stay away forever." He was 29 years old and just got married couple months before. I keep coming back to this song and thinking about him. It always ends up with me in tears, but it helps.
Lost my Father-in-law late July last year. He taught me how to love the place I moved to and much more. I wish he could see how his grandchildren would grow. Sorry to hear about your Bother, he’s with you rocking out for sure 🤘🏼
It won't be bad! They did it with love! ❤

Syn is so slept on because of being in A7X, but that man is astonishingly talented.

Dude he's a professional guitarist for Christ's sake! Of course it's not a big deal for him to improvise the lead part of one of their easiest songs.
@@Yao686 yea it’s not that hard to improvise on a progression like that but it was a damn good solo

That is incredible!
Btw I absolutely love your videos bro!
Dude you totally rock the guitar. Syn will be proud
Martin Rønning the last highs were VERY emotionally moving. And the whole thing being half-improved gave even more life to the performance. Unreal.

They rehearsed
They literally said this WAS the rehearsal.
This is not part of the set list. So it’s on the spot.
Well, for their standard i think "So Far Away" is actually an easy song to play in acoustic, even the original version uses the acoustic guitar. All they did here was just swapped syn's guitar, hence why he played a little awkwardly.
I'd be really blown away if they'd figured out an acoustic version of beast and the harlot. lol

This song and Danger Line, they're perfect for the songs, simple, and by being so simple they double the emotional value in a way. I love it
Sometimes simple works. Gates is a pro player, he knows when to rip and he knows when to let it lay low. A nearly perfect band in my view. I grew up watching gigs in the 1980s, the shit that inspired A7X, these guys are doing it right, I stand behind them every day.
So Far Away
Never feared for anything
Never shamed but never free
A life to heal the broken heart with all that it could
Lived a life so endlessly
Saw beyond what others see
I tried to heal your broken heart with all that I could
Will you stay?
Will you stay away forever?
How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned
Place and time always on my mind
I have so much to say but you're so far away
Plans of what our futures hold
Foolish lies of growing old
It seems we're so invincible
The truth is so cold
A final song, a last request
A perfect chapter laid to rest
Now and then I try to find
A place in my mind
Where you can stay
You can stay away forever
How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned
Place and time always on my mind
I have so much to say but you're so far away
Sleep tight, I'm not afraid (not afraid)
The ones that we love are here with me
Lay away a place for me (place for me)
'Cause as soon as I'm done I'll be on my way
To live eternally
How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned
Place and time always on my mind
And the light you left remains
But it's so hard to stay
When I have so much to say and you're so far away
I love you, you were ready
The pain is strong and urges rise
But I'll see you, when He lets me
Your pain is gone, your hands untied
So far away (so far)
And I need you to know
So far away (so far)
And I need you to, need you to know

It's moments like these that make you guys so great as a band and makes me proud to be a fan amd consider you my favorite band. The set was done, you weren't supposed to play another song. But a little boy wanted to hear So Far Away, so you say you'll do the first verse. And you just end up doing the whole song anyway just for him. Another example, I went to Philly to see you guys with Metallica and Volbeat. And I love both Metallica and Volbeat but went to see you. And you guys had to cancel cause of Brian's wife going into labor. Most bands you'd see would just have a tech replace a band mate if they can't do it, but you didn't. Matt's scream in the "your pain is gone, your hands untied" part is sooo good even though it sounds a little painful cause doing it sitting down must not been easy.
I love how they grant the song request of the kid even if this song means so much to them. This is why I love this band
"When I have so much to say, you are so far away". This is probably the most painful line in a song. I recently lost my friend with whom I had a fight, I stopped talking to him even though he kept trying to mend the holes, and he went to the heavens after a few months. Everyday I wake up with this guilt of not speaking with him and the fact that I will never be able to just kills me from within. Guys, never hold a grudge, communicate and sort things out, you never know when a temporary resentment might turn into a lifelong regret.
Same but my mate hung him self, this will always be his song
I am sorry for your loses.
I go through the same thing every day for 7 years.
I used to think of this song as a beautiful tribute to their friend the Rev, it had no personal meaning until recently... I lost my best friend, whose broken heart I tried to heal with all that i could, about 2 months ago. Besides being my best friend who could see me and love me the way I was, and help me no matter how broken he was, he was also somehow my hope, my love and he died not knowing (I think) what he truly meant to me and how much I loved him, I tried to show him wihout words because I couldn't say it for a stupid pride. To this day I keep discovering that I also meant something important to him... Our last conversation was like this, I stopped talking to him because I was upset with something so silly... The next day, he did it. So it's real, the lines "And the light you left remains but it's so hard to stay, when I have so much to say and you're so far away" hurt and I can't stop crying when I listen to this song. This is undoubtedly my biggest regret and will be, like you said, lifelong.
I've been trying to mend the brokenness between my greatest lady friend and I for almost two years now, but can't get her to respond. Guess my desires are being tested to see how badly I want the reconciliation.
The fact that Shadows looked directly at the kid while he sang with the most sincere look of love and compassion towards him broke my heart. I love seeing musicians showing how much they love their fans during a performance but this one took the cake!! Made me cry!
Syn smiling at the kid singing along was another level of wholesomeness...

I see how you you could say they lack originality, however I do think Syn is a very technically skilled musician on par with both Metallica and Megadeath I'd even go so far to say that the rev was probably a better drummer than Lars he could straight shred a drum set
Megadeth is untouchable
I STILL am shocked every time Matt sings live. His voice is so unique and so beautiful.
2033 I still enjoy this music, thank you to Avenged Sevenfold who entertained my childhood with your songs, thank you once again. Greetings from Indonesia 🙏
2:26 good god. that kid sang along. Parenting done right.
Syn's reaction too, gold
@@samcarpenter_ I was gonna say that. Syns reaction was just so sweet. Like he was so happy that a little kid knew their music and this deeply personal song.
Nice catch
he got the pick
Holy shit Synister nailed the second solo!!! I didn't know acoustic version can sound as powerful as electric
I could see how hard it was for M Shadows to reach high notes at 6:53
Григорий Дубров yeah... but it still was cool
But it was great
he is a big fan of flamenco
i never said its bad. I mean how his voice changed to the bad. Of course he has one of the most epic voices out there but its changing
@@soulflybrazil in fact he has a video playing some of that
A high five, bass pick, handshake, and a day to remember for the rest of his life.
the moment you realize mshadows voice is very rare in the music industry
This kid will realise someday that they played him the best version ever. Bless these guys, miss you Rev
Can't hold back the tears thinking about how this song was written in grief of one soul passing, and how, as insignificant an addition to their setlist it might have been _to them_ at the time, it has ignited life anew in a new little soul.
my eyes are wet 😢
I love these guys! I'm 70 years old, now, and was introduced to them and this song (by a younger friend) 6 or 7 years ago. Had never even heard of them! Just goes to show what you might miss out on if you aren't open minded enough to listen... now I listen time after time after time... this song says so much... you can tell it's heart felt, too... am learning to sing it and play the basics of it on my guitar... thank you Josh for introducing me... thank you Avenged Sevenfold for this song and for being so awesome! Rest peacefully, Rev... you will never be forgotten!
Good for you! I'm 23, got into them when I was a kid, been playing guitar for 16 years and learned a few of their songs as well. Saw them live in 2011. Some of their stuff might be a little heavy but it's all written with passion and emotion. Check out staind, lifehouse and creed, they're other great bands that have songs with a similar sound and feel. The song nutshell by alice in chains is another one I'd definitely listen to if you've never heard it. Always great to see a new soul touched by avenged sevenfold
Respect
@@michaeldaigle7207 I've actually heard of all that you mentioned! We used to go out riding around for hours listening to music... everything from heavy metal to folk. It was awesome!
Rock is my life. This is amazing . I like this✌✌
*respect*
Keep on rocking oldtimer..i wish when i'm at ur age..i could keep on rocking like u did now🤘🏻
Wowww.... They played it so nice despite having no recent practice....
That kid band rappo had a smile on my face 🌟❤️
Shadows left nothing back. Gave everything to the song. That's how you go out on a show. Take a request from a kid and absolutely crush it.
That is the real audience.. With no phone up their's
Damn them audience members and there *shuffles cards* filming a exclusive event
U r right pal... Nowadays.. most r recording instead of enjoying
Amen
so damn true
Worth to watch
How you gonna go in completely unrehearsed on a song and just nail it? Truly proficient musicians.
Jimmy was there I guarantee it
This band reflects my emotions in every way. I have lost one of my best friends in the earthquake in Türkiye on 06.02.2023. We even could not find his body. Every time I listen to this beautiful song, it speaks for me and I am just in tears… I hope Tamer is happy wherever he is now. Pain is temporary they say, I hope it is… From my soul to Tamer’s. May he rest in peace, he will always be remembered. I am happy about all the memories we shared. @saspent
başın sağ olsun kardeşim. Mekanı cennet olsun
@@miractandemirkale4983 Teşekkür ederim
From my soul to your soul, and to Tamer's
@@abc123AX7 thank you
Shadows nailed the ending. What a legend
That high note in that song at the end, how amazing it would have been to witness that in person and so raw.
5:04 Syn- Oh thank god I don't have to play the entire thing
5:09 Syn- Damn it Shadows
Lol
Tbh tho he looked like he was about to anyway
@@annalatro6922 ofc he was. It's just a joke lol
what did he say there?

Gotta give Syn some love on this one too. His playing and backup vocals helped make that the magic it was.
