Went this track 4 weeks ago. Turned around at the white car. Today I went in this direction and had a chat with 3 dirtbike rider.. they said.. easy on the other side. So I gave it a try. I don’t know.. but hell no.. that’s not easy 😂 got stuck on that bike step in the corner. Turned around.. they fished down on the river and came up with me. Easy ride on a dirtbike. But on a 790.. just to steep. Feels like 30 degree on some spots. Impressive how you managed to get the gs through there.
Yeah, I reckon it would still be challenging. Sometimes you get lucky and once you drop in to the creek you have to get out. Impressive that you tried twice!

I’m Riding a 2006 1200GS and Love mine. I think the GS is the best Bike I have ever Ridden. I grew up Riding Motorcross then went on to Street Racing to Harleys. I wouldn’t Trade my GS for anything except for maybe a Newer one. The only thing about the Liquid Cooled is the extra Weight. The lack of so much Electronics on the 2006 means less things to Fail.
Honestly I think that the R80 was the best bike of the 3 for the trip. Enough power, lighter and the 21" front wheel. I assume that you had the traction control and ABS off and the suspension set in off road mode!
R80 was definitely the best. Traction control always on (not enough power to spin), ABS always on (front brakes too weak to lock) and the suspension is always set to sogggy ;)
New Subscriber. Great Video. That was one hell of a Ride, especially up the Steep Hills. I relay like seeing the Old Gs still doing everything it was designed for. It actually looked like it would have been the easiest one to Ride. Big Howdy from Texas. Looking forward to watching the rest of your Videos.👍👍
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it. To some extent the old G/S was easier, it’s lighter and the lack of power and brakes didn’t matter too much. The other bikes suspension would have been nice :).
Yes, seen the guinecore before on vid and it didn't look any easier this time - not for big adv bikes! Your philosophical note on 'adventure' - "being uncertain about the outcome" - rings true.. which is why I doubt I'll be doing the guinecore anytime soon as the outcome would be certain 😬🙄🤣 Agreed, Range Fire Trial is a hoot, mostly fast with enough challenge to keep you focused. And great to see the old girl getting out too - well done.
The 80 g/s is unique, unsurpassed and it's just her. A timeless motorcycle, ready to challenge the others with class and elegance as if it were just born, even in the next 40 years: just turn it on and there's nothing left for anyone.
Great video Mark. That was pretty brave with the bigger two. I don’t know if I’d have tried lol. I tried something similar (somewhat milder) to day 1 on a Tiger 800. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thanks for the video 👌
Great video, really enjoyed it. Owned a 800 Paris Dakar and as much as I liked it was forever fixing things after a dirt journey, and eventually tired of the constant problems, definitely not built to the same standards as its real racing brother, unfortunately🥴
Thanks, glad you liked the video. The 800 is nearly 40 years old, there is no way that your not going to have things wearing out. But I have to agree, what they used to do on these things at Dakar is amazing and a standard version would struggle to survive.
The bike that gets you riding is always best! I can't imagine anyone seriously considering all 3 of these bikes, however.... The R80G/S is the lightest by far, but has no power, no brakes and no suspension. But it is cool. The 1200 is the best budget option by far and the 1250 is amazing, I know the multimedia system was much better than mine!
@@oldGSguy You have to be a weightlifter to be able to operate these engines. That is why engines of much lower weight and power are used in the rally.
A fire trail for what??? A bulldozer?? Not fit for a vehicle of any kind. This is like black bear road/pass in Colorado usa. Next video, please fix the camera angle when riding. Looking at the speedo and handlebars is not scenery. Don't talk so low when doing a walk around, difficult to hear you. I loved the video for the scenery and rough terrain. It was great. Great bunch of guys. This is like "nomad Sweden" riding group. I deleted 3/4 of my comments. duh. 😁 From the land up over, south Florida USA.🙂 I think I will start a new name for usa. 🤣
Thanks for the feedback, there is definitely lots of room for improvement with the camera angles and audio, I’m sure the next one will be better. There are a lot of fire trails in Australia that aren’t maintained, good for adventure, not so good for fire trucks! Glad you enjoyed the video, we had a great time and I’ve got another one being edited now 👍

Certainly nothing graceful about these big GS's crossing creeks and muddy ruts, foot dabbing hill climbs, and the full three man lifts. How many times can you drop a GS and not crush yourself.....seems lucky you made it to me....I guess crashing is part of it.
Always better not to drop your bike but when 250kg wants to fall over its tough to stop. The boys did well, I sure wouldn't want to be stuck under that 1250!
@@oldGSguy All the more reason to not bring a 250kg behemoth on a steep sloped rocky trail with moderate skills. Watching that rider go off balance navigating that washed out slope raises the question as to why he was out there getting well over his head and risking such a crushing experience.
