The Six Forests Adventure. A 700km offroad adventure on the original adventure bike, a BMW R80G/S PD

  • The Six Forest adventure started as a last minute group adventure ride to the central west of NSW, Australia. The plan was to head out with Phil, Russ and Dan on BMW R1250GS, R1200GS and R100GS but illness, life and a Kangaroo got in the way of those plans.
So, this turned into a 700KM solo adventure on my 1984 BMW R80G/S PD taking every dirt option I could through a loop of Blue Mountains National Park and 6 state forests (Gurnang, Volcan, Lowes Mount, Sunny Corner, Hampton and Jenolan State forests).
I did seriously consider taking my Husqvarna 701 Enduro but in the end, given the solo nature of the ride and randomness of the route I think I made the right call with the BMW.

@@oldGSguy Your experienced and you make it look easier. When I was a young teenager of 15... 51 years ago.... duh, I started out on "hill climbs" a 10 minute or less ride on my 73, honda CL100 through the field where everyone did motocross or hill climbing on on 100 + year old coal mine shaft dumps.. slate dumps. It was really great fun and practice and dangerous. I loved it. My bike was not really a hill climbing bike, but it served a purpose as many of us had street and trail bikes, not strictly road bikes. Thanks for the great adventure video and soft to no music. It's enjoyable and relaxing to watch. I miss that kind of riding and it does not exist in Florida anywhere. Colorado would be perfect with all the mountains. The problems of being an adrenaline junky. It never leaves you. I'll be in an old age home doing crazy stunts in my wheelchair one day, if I live to see it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks again.

How many state forest do you have? Wow. They do lots of "clear cutting". For a state forest that is not advisable. I had never ridden nothing but single tracks in america. I generally hate "voice over" videos, but... you had faint engine and natural sounds. It was bearable. 🙂 But I really loved all the single track riding. That is what it should be all about. Not on vehicle trails. That is too easy. Is that a signature gas tank??? 😂 I thought you were going to show hitting the Kangaroo or did it attack you. I have ridden all my life by myself. I would always worry about what the other riders were thinking or where they wanted to do or stop. Always concerned about everyone else trying to read their minds. It is 7:30 Sunday morning here in Okeechobee Florida USA, we are under a severe weather and tornado warning and high winds. Summer time in South Florida. Australia is so gigantic. If I was not so old and crippled in my back, it would have been nice to ride this with you. I am a follower.. not a leader. Unless... it is a forest fire. Retired from it on bulldozers. Thanks for the nice calming video. 🙂

Thanks for the feedback. Personally I love watching the pine forest single track with just the motor sound but it drives my wife insane! I'm all about the single track if I can find it but on that bike solo I need to be a bit more careful about the tracks I head down. The tank has Gaston Rahier's signature on it, he won the 1984 Dakar and the tanks came out with his signature on it. We have many, many forests to choose from. Nice to connect with you.

That would be a heavy bike to flip and turn around if you had to change direction. I loved the forest riding. You never know when a tree will jump out in front of you. 😁 thanks again.
