Stocked rainbow trout absolutely love dough bait. The folks at Berkley and Pautzke have a great lineup of prepared dough bait in various colors and scents. You can make your own right in your kitchen if you are so inclined to do so. Or you can pickup a fresh loaf of bread and roll your own dough balls. The key is the setup: ultralight spinning rod, 2-6 pound line, a small hook (#12-#14), a slip bobber, and a few split shots. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately these are stocked trout, this creek gets too warm to support any year round trout populations other than in its headwaters. I fly fish all the time for native brook trout, I’ll definitely start using the fly rod more for stockies more often

You can use many baits for catching trout, all type of worms etc...But its not a point to catch as much as you can,the point is to enjoy with much more sofisticated tehniques (UL spining, nymphing, fly fishing etc..)Your gear is for "killing" those trouts, your rod is to heavy action, your line is tick as hell....Try to use something apropiate to the size of those fish, for example 0-7g rod,0,10mm fluocarbon or something simular, and try to enjoy ...

This is a false claim. In fact the longer the fight is drawn out, the more stress that the fish endures and the more chance it has of dying. (Also, the point of this video wasn’t just a secret bait, it’s also the rig I fish it on that makes it more effective). And some people have different opinions on what’s most enjoyable. I enjoy catching a lot of fish. Keep in mind these are stocked trout, and in my other videos where I fish for native and wild trout I am always fly fishing and treating the fish with upmost respect (although in this video I don’t really see how I did anything wrong besides accidentally snagging a fish and forgetting a net). I kind of find it hard to enjoy fishing for pellet fed rubber hatchery fish anyway, literally the only thing I find rewarding about it is by catching a bunch of them. With wild trout ill slow down and enjoy the process a little more

Always fun when you are drifting a bread bait for trout on 3 lb line and a big carp or murray cod takes the bread. Then it's on for young and all. "Nobody knows about it", well, not nobody. I have used this for years, without a jig head. It is unrequired. A small circle hook, compress the bread and away you go. Try a Wooly Bugger or Mrs Simpson in place of the bread.

    • @mpfishing5530

@@mpfishing5530 I use unweighted bread in the rivers. Just make sure it is compressed well and all air squeezed out. At most, I might add a small running bead sinker above a small ring and a short leader. I do like to run a small jig head with certain soft plastics I use in the same way, though. Most of the trout streams around here are artificial only, so lures and flies. Been getting some great late season, Autumn rainbows lately. However, only a couple of weeks left before end of season, so back to carp with bread baits :) TBH, the Swamp Trout (carp) are my preferred targets.

I wouldn’t use bread in there obviously, this video was filmed at a stocked creek that doesn’t support any natural reproduction. Without a jighead could work I guess but that one hole I fished in this video was like 6 feet deep and super swift water, I just like to know that it gets down near the bottom where they are holding. I’ve only ever caught one carp and it was on accident while bass fishing, I’ve never tried to target them with bread. Is it hard to get started? because that’s something that seems like a lot of fun.

@@mpfishing5530 I am in Australia, these streams are kinda mixed. They have wild, self sustaining populations that are resident in the creeks and streams, but the dams on the rivers are often replenished with fingerling stockings. These eventually make their way into the streams when the spawning runs occur up the inflows. They then mingle and breed with the wilds. The creek I fish and is in my latest vids had some of Australia's oldest browns, introduced back in the 1800s , and some fairly new, first run, stocked rainbows mixed in together with wild 'bows.
Carp on bread is the most fun you can have on the fresh water. They fight hard and do not know when to give up. It is very easy to get started, all you need is a loaf of white bread, a hook and your pole and you're good to go. I usually use 4 - 6 kilo (8 - 12 lb) line, depending on the environment. Weedy backwaters with big fish get the bigger gear. A small hook (number 4 or 2 are my favourites) and, if required, a jig head or running sinker to get down into the flow. As you note, in deeper water, this is more necessary. Corn is another awesome bait for them, and works well for burley (ground bait) also. Most of my channel is lake fishing for carp.
Sight fishing them on soft plastics or flies is also a blast.
