Nice but ..
Does it have a battery for the controller?, since the key 2nd gen has it and that also include the camera server ...
How many cameras support , each camera take a little bit of processing juice, will that affect DPI and IDS?
I use UniFi a lot and I love their products, but I think this is for home or small Company not medium, I personally use their NVR solution, more robust and reliable and the software has more and better features.
I have the dream machine Pro and the Orbi mesh Wi-Fi 6 in AP mode with 3 nodes and WOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!! I have Comcast to 2 gigabits per second fiber and I am getting full speed!
Cryptomator is free OSS, does the same thing.
@@Starwarsgames66 You ever used Pfsense? Am wondering what to get, the UDM Pro or Pfsense as am getting 1 gig connection.
Looking for a suggestion in a router for my home, with my smart home growing, and a family of 5 with a growing list of devices added to the network all the time I am experiencing issues now, at this time I have 76 devices on my network at the time of writing this post. I have updated my internet package to fiber internet 750 mbps but the router is only broadcasting 250 mbps. I know a router would help but I am a noob when it comes to routers and don't know what to buy any suggestions

It says 1gbps because the ethernet link has negociated on 1gbps. In order to get the 3Gbps + ou will need to add a SFP+ at 10Gbps.
that is exactly what i was thinking. He mentioned that his entire network is 1gbps but i think he will need to plug it in with the SFP port. to get that top speed he is looking for. Come on Chuck get it together mouhahahaha just kidding. I do this stuff all the time.
I think it's a firmware things. I'm on 1.7.2.2620 using the gig port for WAN and my Threat Management configuration option says: "Enabling Threat Management will affect the UniFi Dream Machine Pro maximum throughput (3.5 Gbps)"
@@SteveCody would you recommend the UDP? Am moving over to a 1 gig connection and looking for at this or the pfsense.
@@Bobbyuk I like it, but I haven't really compared it to other appliances. It's very capable, and my speed maxes out around 950mbps. I like the IDS functionality as well. The only thing I dislike about it is that during the unboxing and initial installation, it started a firmware update that failed. I had to boot into rescue mode or whatever it's called and do a recovery. It's worked very well after that.
@@Bobbyuk get OPNSense (or PFSense, but many developers now went to OPN!). Unifi has the habbit of dropping products without much time, for example the IP-phones, the entire unifi video product line etc ... wouldn't recommend ubiquiti for any new setup right now until their business habits change.
Also, OPN / PFSense has many advanced features and a really good gui. Runs on standard hardware also.
Love the Content, you and Jeremy have been with me through the thick and thin when it comes to this stuff. The best part is, you make me want to be more engaged in this environment. Keep up the good work brotha!
Well, guess my house is small/medium business cause I just bought it.
How much and from where? Does anybody knows where I can buy for less than $379?
Considering just how hostile the internet has become with all the "wares" routers need to keep up. Now all this needs is something like Pi-hole.
Yeah I'm pretty sure my apartment is about to become a small business too. Maybe I can get some tax cuts on my house now.
NWC I"m so glad you got one of these and are using it. Keep this as an ongoing series please. Well done
I thought the same thing on the display, "I'll never use this." right up until I rack mounted it and could quickly see the device temperature without having to pull out my laptop to login to the portal. In a business, seeing the mac address, IP as well as the CPU & memory usage makes for easy spot-checking potential issues and just confirming that you're working with the correct device
Lol, I was just looking over this Dream machine and thought, I hope Network Chuck makes a video about it. AND boom, it came up on my feed. thanks man, I really enjoy your videos.
Gotta encrypt your thoughts 😜
I wanted this one, but the dream machine with the HD nano in it won me over. I already had the gen2+. I'm really happy with it
Thanks NC, really needed this review. I was looking at this and looked for one of your videos mate because they are simple and concise.
I’ve had one since the beginning of EA. I really like it and the ability to route my LAN at 10gig is awesome. They are improving the software continually.
Can I get a SFP to Ethernet connect for the two 10gbit ports and connect my 10gbit ethernet devices to it and get full throughput?
Ha! I freaked out for a second when I saw "Keith Home" pop up on the screen.
I love Ubiquiti! so cool to see you doing a video on this!
I've had mine for a few week and love it. I also main purchased mine for the IDS/IPS 1g feature. I've only notice one issue with mine, and that is the fact the refresh button in the top right corner will not appear, even if I toggle to turn it off and on in settings.
Thank you Chuck for sharing with us! Love you
Not sure why I need this, but I am convinced! Just signed up!
I found your channel today and loved the teach-ins on setting up home and SOHO networks. But, thinking of buying the UniFi Dream Machine right away I read lots of negative reviews; everything from being so noisy to difficulties obtaining stable operation and not achieving its advertised. I will stay with your UA-cam channel but you may want to reconsider your high level of enthusiasm for this new router.
By the way, I installed a Ubiquiti router two or three years ago, and this beautiful flying saucer performs outstandingly.
Installed a few finally ordered one for myself !
Ordered mine today! So exited
This is pretty cool and it looks a lot nicer than the cisco SOHO routers. Might actually pick this one up at some point
Nevermind you already have a video about it! Awesome!
I have this setup in my home. I love the ids/ips. It even detected a worm on my kids laptop.
Nice!
I tried setting up the UDM-Pro with my Spectrum modern but i keep getting an error on the app saying there is no internet. This basic dhcp and I am not sure why it is not working for me to set it up. I am new to Ubiquiti so I need all the help I can get. When I switch back to my Meraki it works like a charm. I have done multiple reboots of my modern yet no joy
Good to know. I may have to get one. I'm always de-lousing peoples virus infected computers. Would be nice to know I'd cleaned it up for sure *and* I didn't cross contaminate my computers once its gone.
@@williambridge9521 have you figured it out yet?

Mine is coming Friday. Pumped. 😎
Hey Chuck, I had a similar experience unboxing my UDM Pro. After initial setup and firmware update, it wouldn't boot. Ugh. I had to go into recovery mode and reset it to get it to work. It's working great now though. Love your video.
I about died laughing with the boot failed, the music cutoff was the best.
I just got the usg and a cloud key gen 2. I am new to ubiquiti and I am really enjoying the products so far.
Thanks for this video good job! I am getting one for home that makes me a geek too 😂🤣
Oh yeah!!!!
Great content Chuck. Thank you.
I just got this today wow its great dude thanks took me a year to get it, I let go my ASA for this.
I really enjoy this channel.
Had this at home since it hit beta love it!

Thanks for the demo
I love when I get a UI delivery... Their products are something i've fallen in love with... I have now setup multiple Small and Medium networks with all UI gear, and the interfaces are just amazing for me. I don't need the massive enterprise grade items that Cisco/Juniper/Aruba offers, UI is the PERFECT gear for Small SOHO and Medium office setups.
well this is my first time on your page....didn't realize you were associated with cbt nuggets. looks like i need to start back up on my ccna studying again and stop messing around (it's been years smh). this was a great video btw. thanks bro.
The touch screen is a nice touch :D This is out of my price range for sure, but it's cool :)
Love the used bible in the background, and love your content.

Actually just got my UDM Pro and AP today to start setting up my home network. A bit early in learning networking for me, but I'm excited to get started and break some things.
I have liked my UniFi pro and the protect has been great but my main grip with the UDM pro is the software is half baked missing basic features and the UI can be very clunky at times hard to find stuff always have to switch back and forth between the old UI to find stuff . Overall I like the UniFi eco-system it can be fun to tinker with
And I thought that my teeny EdgeRouter X SFP is an overkill. Now I feel better, thanks :)
just to be clear, the packet inspection is basically blind to all https traffic. Not unless you're using your own SSL certifications and decrypting the traffic for inspection.
Your beard needs its own channel. Great beard!!!
The movie was great, I’m waiting for delivery to new udm pro
I wish they were able to partner with one or even many SDWAN providers and include optional connection settings in the product so for these small/medium branch offices it could act as an SDWAN box aswell - but guess these providers want to push their own stuff :(
On your previous video of the Dream Machine consumer edition, you mentioned that you cannot set-up a VPN client. Can you have either a VPN client on the Pro and also is there a command line interface too?
We were thinking about replacing some other UI stuff with unifi. I hope you do more of a deep dive into unifi. We were going to standardize on uibiquiti edgemax type hardware. However availability in Canada is making this impossible. Thank you for your video.
A. Idea to do a follow up video on this product after lets say 1 month?
Thanks for the video! I am planning a new home build, and want ethernet wired throughout for reliable internet connection and PoE for a few home security cameras. My question for you is, what equipment do you recommend for my rack mount setup? I also plan to set up a NAS. Thanks!
i am so thankful the content that is available for this stuff is so clear and accessible these days. i have a 7 year old usg and it just pooped out. so i balled out and put an order in on this guy and their wifi 6 ufo itll be well worth the 1000$ in exchange for another 7 years of flawless internet
The hell? I expected a 1k price tag atleast.. I was really surprised when you mentoined the price and saw it on their site aswell
It's their whole thing, near enterprise grade with near consumer prices.
That’s Ubiquiti’s thing.
I went a different route. Less then 200 got me a poweredge r210 from server monkey and I installed pfsense on it. I don't have surveillance so it's perfect and very quiet.
Good job, this really helps. Novice networker.
I agree with whoever talked about the V-LANs ... Please make a video on that for this machine or just in general.
If you think this is nerdiest, you should try a Mikrotik RB4011 or their CCR2004 w/ 2x SFP28 (25Gbps) ports.
Nice set-up, any chance you can go through what's in your CAB, thanks
IDS/IPS & Surveillance all in 1 is great but price tag might be too much for the average user. Perfect for small to medium businesses!
I love you for this! I am upgrading also
Love the name. DREAM machine Pro 😎
By the way Jeremy, I was working a lot with Dream Machine PRO. I have deployed this router in different small businesses are awesome and solid. The issue that you may have with the 1gbs is that the version you have only work in the SFP+ port. If you have your lan connected to the Wan ethernet port it will only read that + your network is 1gbs so it will read that. The new version of dream machine pro is insane. Includes now POE and 2.5GBs ethernet ports.
I’m looking at the DMP right now and I’m not seeing 2.5G ports.
@@thespencerowen the Wan Port?
Hi. Great video, thanks. What hard drive did you get for it?
You need to check out Mikrotik if you want truly nerdy fun. They 100% do not hold your hand but it’s amazing to see what a 100-ish dollar router can do when running RouterOS.
Dream machine Pro user here FTW!!!. I don't use the cameras or the doorbell function because, I don't own a house. Soon to be rectified this year if things go to plan and then, yes, I will buy a hard drive and wire all the things to make full use of this amazing product.
Great video, I like the fact that you have joined the UniFi ecosystem and I have a similar home setup. The only issue I have is that your link to buy a Dream Machine Pro points to an Amazon seller who is ripping people off, trying to sell them at $525 instead of the Ubiquiti price of $379 (even though they are currently out of stock).
Good video! I will stick with my Fortigate
Hey Chuck, do you got any recommendations for a home rack? Also is this thing loud?
I love my UDM pro. I'm waiting on my LR Wifi 6 AP's which are suppose to ship next week
Im kind of surprised you want 1 piece of gear to do multiple big pieces of functionality. I have my router only do router stuff and VPN. My surveillance system will continue to work even if the router catches fire lol.
I bought it! Thanks @NetworkChuck.
This is a great device, but they are lacking 2 very important feature, at least imo, being able to use more than one IP adress on the Wan and not being able to setup a VPN client other than ipsec. I mean these are things that are basically standard in today's world and the fact that it is limited to one IP has caused multiple ppl I know to go with different hardware that is not as good with most of the other stuff.
Sorry for the out of topic but, I feel anxienty while watching your monitor shaking on the desktop. Anyway, great video! I love it.
Good video man!
0:43 He was hoping to get that smooth shot of pulling it all the way with one hand in one single, fluid motion, haha.
Great channel. Quality content. Thank you.
FYI, The 8 1gb ports on the front share the same 1gb backplane so you are going to want a seperate switch
I would love to have one of these
No you wouldn't. It's very buggy and unreliable.
Subscribed man. I've watched a number of your bids I've the past few days and the algorithm now has you in my feed and I continue to watch. You're light years ahead of me but very useful.
My question: I bought a zyxel and is way beyond my skillset. I just need something for my home that has preconfigured protections where you can monitor accordingly without having to be the engineer of the device. Do you recommend this or the firewalla gold? I don't like firewalla's 30 warranty as that seems a bit off they don't stand behind their product more than that but I have seen nothing but great reviews. Next, are either WiFi and of not can I use a newer asus router to be the access point? Thanks
I really like that song at the Out Through by Ooyy. Bought it adding it to my personal music collection.
I thought about using this and love Unifi stuff but I am not a fan of the proprietary camera system. I switched away from their Gateway devices and moved to pfsense. Would love to see you do a video on pfsense. I think you would like the functionality of it.
This is, obviously, a late reply but I just ordered my UDM Pro. The ONE thing I feel it's missing is having 4 of those ports being POE+. I know the upcoming version will have that, but it should have been on the original too. I ended up buying POE Injectors because their standalone POE+ switches are way too expensive (for me to justify).
Looking forward to the SE review.
This product actually under delivers a lot.
This a great UA-cam video that keeps you entertained. But that’s where it ends.....
I purchased a udm-pro based on this video. And I found out quickly that some of the reasons I purchased for that are described here do not functional very well at all.
Currently vlans do not work as described. Or at least their how intended.
Id like to ask chuck to go back to this unit a do a real and thorough TEST of the some of the features.
If you scour through the unifi community forums you will find others with similar experiences with lack of functionality.
This video was made a year ago, and I feel that’s plenty of time for unifi to get their act together with any firmware updates or software changes necessary so it actually does what it’s supposed to.
Love your videos chuck. Like I said, they are entertaining...
Hi Chuck. Love your videos but have a doubt on the Dream Machine Pro. I’m using NordVPN on my Asus router but as far as I know the Dream Machine Pro was at the beta to support this kind of connection. My main concern is if I may use NordVPN with it.
thinking about picking up a pro eventually, just getting started on setting up my new network in my home office.
Just got my pfsense box stood up, realizing there may be some issues with realtek NIC's and pfsense but I haven't experienced any issues yet...
Guess I might have to stress test it.
Well, you just earned a sub
Hello Chuck. Good video. One question... Do you have some video of how you do your network, and what you bought?
Love your channel. 👍 in your opinion what was the benefits of a USG3 over a Dreammachine, from a home network perspective. I have had a USG3 for several years and works well.
love it! going to sell my edgerouter now :)

Cool beard. I too am planning to get a hardware firewall router. The whole process seems complicated to setup
Nice video! Thinking of buying the router. Love your sound on mic. What are you using as the interface?
That sponsor transition though
It's actually kind of sad that there's no reason to nerd out hard on this thing. Everything is so easy and fast to set up. Upgraded our small company's network from a Forti router to UDM Pro within 2 hours from unpacking to running.
Have you considered a rack server with vyos?
Probably find the throughput for the threat detection system is based on you wan speed. (So you have a 1gbps net conn it will match it, if you had higher it would be higher)
I really wish there was a dream machine "super" pro with PoE+ and extra SFP+ ports...
An integration with the 16-XG and Switch 8 150W basically.
Basically giving you an all in one house monster to be online via any SFP+, power your AP (@10Gb? :P) and cameras and being easy to expand.
Lucky that exists now. It’s the “special edition” one.
Edit:
Not sure on the SFP ports.
@@samuelhulme8347 not exactly, but I did get that one nonetheless, but Unifi basement split is quite annoying...
Thank you, this is a useful video, how many devices can be connected to the network with a good performance using the dream machine pro?
Love your videos, the best Networking contetnt on the youtube so far. No doubt. The best content ! I
FOR ANYBODY ELSE GETTING A BOOT FAILED ERROR AND ARE SUPER BUMMED:
I got a Boot Failed as well and did the recovery... turns out there was an issue that it would fail if there was no WAN connection on setup... super weird. The second I connected WAN and restarted, worked like a charm!
Nice pro tip!!
Nimbus 2001.... Voldemort..bruh i didn't knew chuck was a potter head like me😂😂🤣
I kinda hate Ubiquiti because of multiple bad experiences at work. Had hardware stabilty issues in their switches, software issues with the management tools to a point where the database would corrupt it was always a chore.
Switched to MikroTik, yes there is a learning curve but it gives a lot more freedom and once you perfected your config, stability. Would love to see you review a CCR unit.
I have set up a MiktoTik network at home now with multiple cAP AC's, with CAPsMAN deployment is great!
What would you recommend to use for an external vpn device so i can use something like nord or expressVPN for my whole network? I know that the Dream Machine little guy doesn't have it and that is the only down side to me not buying one right now
I really like the capabilities of the Unifi gear, specifically the DM Pro. I want to move away from off-the-shelf solutions like Netgear, but while I am a techie, I am not a network engineer. Any issues with a noob setting up a Unifi network?
@David C How did it go?
