Honestly, you'd probably be happier in the long run just throwing tons on the 98.. like you said, you have so much money into the 3rd gen, you'd have a hard time having fun/beating on it.
@@Maxx.Powell I have a 93 pickup I 3.4 swapped, and have a solid axle waiting to go in it! Do you plan to regear it for the 39s or see how it crawls with them.
SO CRAzy my 1st truck was a 1998 white tacoma.. loved that truck. same regret on selling it too... wife and i meet in highschool. i need to find that truck again! sweet!
dude i'm so happy to see you pick this thing up, great little build! I think you should build this thing out a bit and really get comfortable with these types of trails and rock crawling before you start doing it with the third gen. get all the mistakes and first timer carnage out of the way with this thing and then roll into building up the third gen. cause i know you're gonna be mad at yourself if you start destroying the third gen on trails.
Hell yeah!!!!!!! So stoked to see more of this thing!!!!! Keep 3rd gen as is for “over landing/wheeling” and the 1st gen build it up!!! Exo it! This gets me jazzed!! Wooooo
My 3rd gen taco 1 ton build will be complete in a few months. There a few 3rd gen sas out there. Fab Fours, Spartantaco, and Rock slayer. Soon to be my taco on that list. There aren't many out there so I say do it.
If you're going 39's put some beadlock wheels and run those tires at 2-3 psi, that truck is light and it would be unstoppable, try to run narrow tires though, wide tires tend to grab less
I’d keep it dude and just keep upgrading it as you go along... love it, fuck yeah..!! I’m a Jeep guy but I’ve always had a crush on tacos... watching you guys wheel yotas kinda makes me wanna get one... hahaha ✌️
She's a beauty man, Sick truck too tho. Im a die hard yota guy too and am in the middle of building a 4dr geo tracker and am not diggin it lol no where near the yota quality but you earned my sub 🤘
I’m not much for leaf springs but seriously congrats dude!!! That’s awesome especially when you don’t have to worry about beating it up because you can trailer it a lot more fun on the trail less stress Can’t wait for you to throw a turbo in that thing
Love the new off-road rig!! Can't wait to see more videos on it! It's killing me watching you load it on the trailer and no even have the parking brake on or someone in the truck holding their foot on the brake, its a good way to break the parking paw in the transmission of that Raptor...... Get yourself a set of ramps!!!!
I went same route u did built my tacoma on 37s. But found its limit. So i got first gen 4runner on tons n 40s. Way better build. Keep both build this 98 . Can't wait to see u out on trails one day . Props I love all your videos. Keep it coming
This truck is a great platform. I wouldn’t change the third gen. That’s a completely different build. Either keep it the way it is or let it go. If you want something you can play with this SAS truck is the better option.
3rd gen on tons with tires, u gotta take the family crawlin' they'll love it. Take your time doing it and have fun building it. Few more years the boys can be getting out in the mud to hook the winch line 2 a tree! Lol Cheers from Canada!😁🇨🇦
It’s sick! First thing I’d get a winch on there. I’d do front and rear bumpers tube style. Winch mounted on top not in front bumper so it’s easy to get to. Put spare tire in the bed and cage it. I’d also do some tail light armor of some sort and have the front bumper where it curves enough to armor front headlights.
The GOOD OL ( 3RZ-FE) that motor is a tank Ive built many of them and is by far one of toyota's best motors if not the best...tons of aftermarket goodies for it...scope out LC Engineering. Also if it hasnt already been done to the motor. ..REMOVE THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN. youll thank me down the road. And install a OIL PAN SCRAPER ...DO those two things and you'll be set.
Nice Rock Crawler, '98 with the '01-'04 front end on it. You need the short throw shifter kit for the transmission, looks like you are going to punch a hole through the stereo. I have one for my 1st gen Taco, I got mine through Marlin Crawler. Looking forward to more videos of this rig!
Skip the tons, keep it light! Few guys i know are just running stock toyota axle housings still and outcrawling everybody. Tons is so much more weight. I used to be into jeeps, had 4 of them and currently a YJ for my wife, and I now have a samurai. The samurai is literally half the weight and its point and shoot. My jeeps could never do what Im doing now just for being nimble. 39.5 and toyota gear go a long way! Also, im down in the portland area, I know you guys get bothered alot with people wanting to go wheeling with you guys but if you ever head to browns camp, or further south to cline butte or rim butte/hoodoo, let me know. Would enjoy wheeling with you man. Love the videos!
Hey dude, do a flatbed and make a ton of videos on you building it. Learn to weld, have tons of videos to make, and I bet a lot of us want to watch! Super cool buy, looking for one myself.
You could do 1 episode of "budget build tail lights", do the whole process where you melt the lens off a cheap pair in the oven and then you could add bright amber chase lights inside the tail light (on switch?), and do a cool blinker/running light or red accent lights or reverse lights etc.. whatever to still keep them street legal. Seems to be a growing trend lately in the light world, I'm giving it a try with some "Spyder" brand headlights. Now you can keep the third gen a long travel IFS rig, yay!!
You was bound to get body damage trying to hang with those short tj’s. After driving a variety 4x4’s off road, I have to say the best and easiest to get around tight trails like that was my single cab 94 Toyota pickup and 02 tj. The tj feels like your almost sitting atop the rear wheels. Btw first upgrade gotta be a winch.
I say, build this truck completley and sell the third gen as this a more capable rig and most all of the trails in Washington are tight and you are going to catch a lot of body damage on the wide body third gen.👍
I’d keep both as is. You’re UA-cam is based on the white truck as a touring truck. Your raptor makes great pictures and short burst of videos. I say clean the new project up with some paint and mod it for difficult trails. I understand you don’t need a car lot, but I see it as tax deductible for the income of your UA-cam business
I love it man! So pumped you got this truck 🤘
Nice work man. Best decision you’ve made yet. Dual cases! Your gonna be tractor crawling’. 39s, exo, and a winch and you’ll be stylin!
YESSSS,MORE TOYOTA CONTENT! love the rig can't wait to see more...
Glad to see you in a crawler. Tons and 42s on the 98 would be cool. Maybe do a more mild solid axle swap on the 3rd gen and keep it nicer🤔
You and Nate videos are sweet, glad he talked you into a wheeler!!!
A little more fun when you're not as worried about dents/breaking stuff huh haha love it dude 🔥
I have my 02 sitting in my garage right now and can't wait to get it out and beat on it. They are in my opinion the best generation of Toyota truck.
Honestly, you'd probably be happier in the long run just throwing tons on the 98.. like you said, you have so much money into the 3rd gen, you'd have a hard time having fun/beating on it.
This is the video Iv been waiting for since I was subscribed idk how many years ago! But hell yeah brother!
More to come my man!

30 seconds later easy easy 😂🤣 twinkle toes 🤟
Give that puppy some boost! Can't wait to see what you do!
Been driving my lifted '03 4x4 extended cab taco with 33's for years now in the northeast. I oil undercoat it every year and she's going strong!!!

Nice man. Yeah I miss that truck like crazy. Cool to have something simular!
Sweet truck. Just drive it for a few more runs. You don’t need to sketch out a long term plan right away.
I really like how you and Nate broke it up, it feels like I’m watching two completely different videos
Really good to hear man. Thats what we were going for. We like working together and are trying to ensure that both videos are unique enough to enjoy.
dude i'm so happy to see you pick this thing up, great little build! Man max Your going to make me want to build a rock crawler now 😂 great video!
This is one of my all time favorite videos, probably watched it 10+ times all the way through!
That’s awesome to hear man. I can’t wait till my shop is built so I can get back into solid axle wheeling.
@@Maxx.Powell I will be here to support and watch!
I'm a longtime subscriber but I've never been so excited for future content...I'm so glad u got a first gen tacoma/crawler!!! Cant wait for content..

3rd gen on Tons!
Yes

That is awesome. Congrats on the new rig.
I like that it has the 2001-2004 front clip on it. I think that’s the best years of the first gen personally.
I totally agree!
If you're going 39's put some beadlock wheels and run those tires at 2-3 psi, that truck is light and it would be unstoppable, try to run narrow tires though, wide tires tend to grab less
Also had a 98 in High school! Awesome truck. My brother has it now in Hawaii. 400k on the odometer and running strong!

You should definitely raptor line it nice result will look good and be durable for what you want to do to it
I knew hangin' out with Nate was going to cost you some coin. 😉 Looks like fun though, and I'm looking forward to coming along for the ride.

Looks like it has 63” leaf swap in the rear aswell! I wonder if the dual cases has a 4.7 in the rear case or a double 2.28

Love it welcome to the club cant wait to see what you build
Thanks for this moment of silence at the end. Soo relaxing
Man that’s going to be fun! Beast of a rig with twin sticks too!!
That looked super fun! Seems like a great little offroad truck.
I live in ND and I have ran the LB I love that place im home sick.
Cool truck
MP! Deal too, ..raptor line the bed when you sparetire mount it
You should bring that thing up to Sadie creek orv.
Sell Raptor get 250/350 (dedicated tow rig)
Sell 3rd get a Bronco
Put 98 on tons/ turbo also at 8k that was a killer buy
Damn dude, that thing is awesome..
Get some universal trailer tail lights from AutoZone, that way when you break them you’re only out 20 bucks
Flatbed! Do one of those Aussie type aluminum cabs on the back for the beers and room for a spare in the back. Sweet taco

Tons, 43s, exo cage and a turbo
Now time for a tow rig?? 😅
ABOUT TIME!!!! YOTAGANG
Shitbox debauchery is so much fun!! Especially with a romantic waterfall 🤦♂️😎

3rd gen on tons. Sell the Raptor and get a aev prospector on 40s to tow it
