Just Jammin' made a comment and just wondering if you could answer something... There was accurate mention of how a part this sounded like Prince... Do you know whether they we're influenced by Prince regarding this song ? It was recorded in '82 and Prince was an active musician / artist ( he was 24 ) at this time... Question: Did the J Geils band mention any Prince influence on his song that you heard of ?
@@stevemarcantonio8587 I know. Prince was born in '58 and was 24 when this came out... He was an ACTIVE, recording, gigging musician when "Flamethrower" came out. But if you can't answer the question, I do understand.
I was in junior high my friend brought over this in 45 and I swear to God we played it 50 times on a Saturday it was so awesome the sound production was great all the cool effects the drums just a phenomenal piece
Well done, young man. You have discovered my favorite band. J Geils Band played in Peoria in 1981 or so during their Freeze Frame tour. Some more songs from them you will like are Come Back, Rage In The Cage, Freeze Frame, Love Stinks, Floyd's Motel, and Must Of Got Lost, just to name a few.
This song is the B-side of their #4 pop hit, Freeze-Frame from 1982. It did got some airplay on R&B stations across the country. The song peaked at #25 on the Billboard Soul chart. This is the only song by the J. Geils Band to ever cracked the Billboard Soul and R&B Dance charts. A kick-ass song indeed!!!
Remember the dancers busting some awesome moves to this circa 1982. Was popular in the school town bars I hung out in 1981-82. You moved fast or you got off the dance floor.
Back in the 70s there was no band on earth, and I mean NO band on earth, not the Rolling Stones, not Aerosmith, not Queen, not Bruce Springsteen, no one that the J. Geils Band could not blow off the stage during a live show. The most high energy live band ever.
Yeah, definitely some early funk - like Flashlight by Parliament. All a precursor to Prince. I searched this song because others had reacted to Centerfold and I thought - man this song is the JAM and I bet hardly anyone knows about it anymore. You were the only one who came up in the search as having reacted to it. OF COURSE! I don't think I should be surprised. This is a really good album. Haven't pulled it out and listened to it in a LONG time - (I should) - Angel in Blue is a nice balled from this record too.
This band had somebiconic songs in their time "centerfold" and "love stinks" which was in Adam Sandler movie wedding singer. Freeze frame and they had a crazy song about a bolonga sandwich or something crazy.
have you heard Flamethrower Rap? lol back then pretty much everything had a rap version. I just saw my 12inch the other day. totally forgot about it. I can't say it's great but it's as good as Honeymooners Rap by Eddie Murphey and Joe Piscopo or Rappin Duke. haha.
@@billo6938 They are indeed a Boston band but Detroit loved the funk out of them. So much so, don’t they have an arena named after J.Geils over there? And he wasn’t even FROM Detroit! How crazy is that?
@@trecchannel4205 I can't find anything about an arena named after the band. They did record at least parts of their three live albums in Detroit, and their final show was in Detroit, opening for Bob Seger at his last show.
I was the assistant mix engineer on this record!!

@@waterlec8718 No. They never mentioned Prince.
They used to play this song on ladies night back then with the male dancers lol!
This is the goal song for the second biggest hockey team in Finland, HIFK! Crazy good song
This group was so huge by the early 80s they just permeated rock radio.
i jammed on this on eight track back in the day
I graduated high school the year this came out. It was definitely an underrated jam.

This Song Was The Jam Back in 81-82 . It still jams! I first heard it at the Carolina West in LA.
They played it at Contempos in Fox Hills back in the day too.
Man.We used to pop and lock to this back in 82! J.Geils band was nice .
J Geils live was just the best live band ever
A classic album!!!!!
This band was out when Prince was like 24....Not certain if "this" was Prince's sound back then 🤔
There’s a Flamethrower Rap by Felix & Jarvis. Cool to play together in a mix 😎👍🏾👍🏼🇸🇪✨
I was gonna say that 💯

Dang I forgot about this one, nice.
If you want something funky from this band listen to "Back To Get Ya' from the Bloodshot album.
The original sounds better than this remastered version
j geils rocks! end of story
If you want to hear a good song about describing fake women check out Nat King Cole's fine Calypso woman
Thumbs up.
No they mean at work she wears stuff to cover up how hot she is
Yes, major PRINCE INFLUENCE.
I remember this one now, echo everything. Not my cup o tea.
Drink a bottle of tequila and dem.echoes will go away!!

vanessa williams - work to do
I loved the J Geils band and saw they live many times, but I disliked this this period of their career.
Detroit band…….Detroit sounds
This band is from Boston. Fact not opinion.
