  • A brief tutorial on How To Repair a Honda Engine Pressure jet Washer that won't start. A 1 year old GCV 190 Honda engine (on a Simpson pressure washer, also used on many Honda lawnmowers same as Troy-bilt) fails to start after sitting only a few months. This Simpson pressure washer with a Honda engine was in very good condition so an obstructed FUEL SYSTEM is most likely to blame (Ethanol). An Experienced mechanic zeros in on the problem and fixes it easily. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND when you are watching my videos: I am showing you the least expensive, quickest "backyard" methods for repairing or servicing your lawnmower. Replacing all components such as gaskets and fuel lines is always recommended when rebuilding or repairing equipment. With these videos I hope you are able to fix and repair your lawnmower yourself with minimal parts, knowledge and tools. Thank you for watching!

UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Thank you Jeff!!! A potential buyer was coming to look at my house and I desperately needed to pressure wash my pool deck. I was about to go spend $300 on a new pressure washer before I found your video. Just like you, after unclogging the carburetor my washer started on the first pull.

Jeff I can't thank you enough! Watched your video, followed your steps, FIRED RIGHT UP FIRST PULL! Your instructions are clear and concise and easy to follow. I used a single staple instead of a wire to clean out the nozzle of the main jet. Also, on the Honda GCV 160 it's easier to remove the soap holder (two screws) in order to reach the jet in the middle. Thanks again Jeff, you saved me time, money and frustration!!

Thanks Jeff! I just saved a trip to the small engine repair shop and some money doing this yesterday in the garage (all doors open). To everyone out there, if the float comes off, you'll probably lose the little "stick valve" (that's all I can describe it as) as I did the first time and gas was leaking everywhere, so I had to open it up all over again! But, having said that, I know exactly what to do now thanks to YOU Jeff!

Thank you for posting this. I have a pressure washer of this model line and it would not start, though it was brand new last fall and had worked fine in the fall. I followed your step by step instructions and the main jet and nozzle were both completely clogged, exactly like you showed. After I cleaned it and reassembled it, it worked perfectly. I have a generator which would not start after years of not being used and I found a similar video someone posted which stepped through same scenario for that carburetor. It is great when people like yourself take the time to show practical help videos. Thank you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.I've never been much of a mechanic but your video was what I needed to get my troy built pressure washer started. Even the simple things on how to drain all the gas were great. It took me about 30 minutes and it started on the second pull so I cleaned the deck of all the winter crud. Now the wife is thanking you too!

Thanks Jeff! I was going to pressure wash my house today and it wouldn't start. I fired up your video and followed the steps and the first pull it fired up. I took the carburetor completely off to clean the whole thing with a cleaner. After it was all back together, gas was pouring out the carburetor and I figured it must be the float stuck and took it all the way back apart. The second time I got it right and did half of my house today. Thanks again Jeff

Thank you for the tutorial! This actually helped me with my no start issue. I didn’t see a lot of sediment but I did remove the carburetor and clean the port and it helped. I had to remove the 2 long bolts on the air filter box in order for me to get access to the bottom of the carburetor. Thanks again!

It would not even try to start after many many pulls. I checked the fuel valves, spark plug, oil, water pressure...
Watched Jeff's video and did exactly what you did in the video. Put it back together and it started FIRST pull!
Took my less than an hour and only cost me a little gas. Now I can finish my project today!

I watched your video and thought, no wayI'll get off that easy! My stepfather drained all the fuel when he winterized it summer before last. It was litterally brand new. But after putting gas in it today, I pulled on the rope til I thought I was going to fall out. I pulled the fuel bowl off and it was clean as a whistle. I pulled the jet and emulsifier out and they were spotless. Shot some WD40 in the hole and ran a piece of wire through all the holes even though they all looked wide open. I put everything back, turned on the gas, waited a few seconds for the bowl to fill, and gave it a yank. It tarted right up. I guess the WD40 chased the evil spirits out of the carb. This Honda reminds me of some of the Tecumseh carbs beck in the day. The tiniest speck of trash is all it takes.

      @OneBadAssDJ 7 років тому +2

Thanks for the WD40 trick. Not everyone has a air compressor in their home. Drained everything out and put everything back together but it wouldn't start. 6:03 is where I took the WD40 and sprayed it through there and put it back together again and it started right away. Great video and nice tip!!

When I put my small engines up for the winter, besides getting the fuel out, I remove the spark plug and spray a good blast of WD40 in the cylinder, pull it through once, and put the plug back in. Next year, it runs on the first pull.

Thanks Jeff, your instructions worked perfectly on my pressure washer issue where I had left gas in it over the winter. Cranked first time! However, when I got the flow bowl off, I could not see the main jet, much less the longer cylinder. Just what appeared to be an empty aluminum tube. I continued with your instructions, added new gas, and presto. My washer is identical to the one in the video, but couldn't see/find the jet.

I was ready to disassemble my engine when I simply took off the pressure washer gun and tried again. The engine turned over with less pressure. I let it run for a little bit and then turned it off. I then connected the pressure washer gun and restarted the thing. It worked! Thankfully my situation is not as bad as the one depicted in this video.

The second jet pin would not drop out for me. I removed the float bowl to expose more of the aluminum shaft that allowed me to tap a longer section of shaft area and like magic the second jet pin finally dropped out. By the naked eye, I could not see any obvious blockage, but I went ahead and followed your plan....SUCCESS!!!

A+++ My pressure washer problem was exactly as Jeff described.. Plugged carb jets.
My only comments are that it was hard to pull the jet out of the carb, and I had to use SST wire leader instead of copper wire to clean the jets. And the float bowl was nastily pitted and stained... motor is only 2 years old.
The engine started on first pull, just like new!

Your float bowl was PITTED and STAINED (so it was CORRODED)??? Say THANKS to your stoopid government EPA and ECO-IDIOTS that allow too much ETHANOL in gasoline for that corrosion. In their PHANATIC quest for a "GREEN" planet, they are causing more pollution than saving the planet through damaged engines that emit MORE pollutants.

Great video Jeff, I've always pulled the carb off to clean these. I guess it never crossed my mind to pull it apart on the engine. Congrats on 1 million plus views on this video as well!

Thank you for this great video. I have the exact same pressure washer and it wouldn't start but after following your instructions it now starts. I guess I shouldn't have left fuel in there for 3 years without using it.

It's even a little easier if you're lucky. My Black Max had the same problem even though it had been run dry of fuel before storage. All I had to do was remove the plug that holds the bowl on and push a piece of wire up into the jet. Put the bolt back and it started on the second pull. You may need to do more but it's easy to try this first and see if it works. Great video.

Awesome video, followed the steps and worked after sitting in hot garage since last summer, almost a whole year. The odd thing is I put in the Ethanol additive that came with the power washer but didn't do much good. The fuel bowl and main jet ha tons of crud.

Good video, I bought a oem carb on ebay for 25.00 shipped, and it worked great, maybe I will try sometime to take apart old one and clean it out. Now I use all ethanol free gas for all my equipment and have alot less problems

very nice instructional video !! You can assume it works if I don't repost. Your audio/video quality and instructions are spot on. Exactly what i'm going to do tomorrow. Changed to new fuel, emptied carb bowl, used starter fluid, but couldn't get sustaining firing. relatively new (bought used) ryobi AND I forgot to close fuel valve and run the fuel line dry on first and only run...

Mine (exact same pressure washer I got from Costco) wouldn't start after a long storage. I changed the plug and the fuel just to be sure and after that didn't fix it I found the bowl and removed it. My bowl was full of gunk so I cleaned it thoroughly and then tried to start it and it wouldn't run. I see now I need to remove the jet and emulsifier as well and clean. This video was a great help. I was 90% of the way there and was about to take it in to get some service, now after this I'm sure it will run fine. Like everything else I think I will switch to stabilized fuel or else run it out of gas before storing.

I changed the carburetor, didn't see your comment. I tried to get the little bugger out and got frustrated, cost me $23 on Amazon so I got off cheap I think. I kept the old one to go through on my work bench as a backup one day soon. Now for my lawn tractor, I think I got a load of bad gas end of last season. Everything from my hedge trimmer to my chainsaws, blower and so on all had this thick peanut butter type goop in it. Thanks for the help.

Your video was helpful. I have the same washer almost..one year old...used once with mix of old and new gas last year. I should have run dry last year...whoops....to fix today, I did not drain gas but just shut off the fuel cock and loosened float bowl bolt and drained 2 ounces at most of fuel into a flat container. I could not get under my float bowl with a screwdriver due to the metal cowling and hose connection assembly under the float bowl. Lacking a short enough flat head screwdriver, I used a drill bit flat head with a wrench and blindly inserted flat head bit til it seated and loosened jet with wrench on bit and then fingertips and jiggled parts until jet and long part fell out. I had only a clogged main jet...but ran a fine wire from a paper twist bag closer (cleaned paper off) through all holes and could see sunlight through it again. It started on second pull....ran a little rough for a minute and my wife happily used it til tank was dry. ...good to fix stuff yourself! thanks.

Worked Perfectly! Thank You! I have the exact same unit and it was exactly what you explained. The only thing I would add is that the piece you unscrewed that came out easily for you needed to be pressed forward a little for me. I placed a safety pin on the side (there is a small hole) and pushed it forward as I unscrewed it. Aside from that it was all you. I unclogged it, cleaned out the old gas, etc. as you directed. Worked perfectly. A+ I cleaned it over the weekend, let it run for some time and it's good now. Only issue I have is when I set it to "Run", not "Start" it shuts off. It runs on "Start" but turns off when switched to "Run". Any insight? I can use it with no issue though. I'll be pressure washing today.

Hi, I have the same problem. This is what I’m trying today. (I have the Ryobi version of this one on the video which looks exactly the same but in green). There’s a valve with a spring on the lower back of the unit that needs to be removed and cleaned. Once you clean ot it supposed to clear out the “low idle” issue.
