@@P_Ezi Truly a fine choice of a perlative chronometer! If you can put up with 8 seconds accuracy a day you might could save $11,050 Australian. Plus there's no wait to buy!
Well with a name like Mr. X, and with how you’ve described his collection now and in the past, it’s sure to be a treat, if he acquiesces. I’d love to see what he’s gathered over the years! Bring him on!
A great review as always Jody. I just picked up this exact watch a few weeks ago and I love it. I went to a local AD to look at a pre owned one and they said they had a new one in their safe that another customer had ordered, but once it came in had decided to buy something else, so I jumped at the chance and bought it. To answer you question, yes the indices are white gold covered in black. I have a 7 1/2” wrist so the size is no problem for me. I absolutely love the legibility of the dial and how the white really pops, plus the GMT hand is definitely unique. Overall it is really an amazing and often overlooked Rolex. Thanks again for the wonderful review. As for a Mr. X SOTC, definitely do it, I think everyone would love to see it. Keep the great work Jody.
Is Mr .X really you so your wife doesn't known about your watch collecting......hm? Good review but won't be getting one any time soon.....Lol best regards from Adrian in Sheffield England 😀😺
I have high end and i have low end, over the years for some strange reason the watches i consider to be on the lower end tend to get so much more attention and compliments. Although i dont wear any of them for compliment, it is nice to receive them! My Alpinist is my most complimented watch.
I tried a 216570 in the Rolex Boutique in Sydney when they first came out, but I found it unconvincing. I left wearing the 16570 which had been on my wrist when I walked in, which I think is definitely a keeper.
Personally not big in many rolex models but I LOVE this one. The white with popping orange gmt hand. Absolutely sexy. Even though I never travel so the gmt is worthless to me, but sure looks cool. I'm a sucker for orange hands
Terrific review! Really appreciate the attention to details like your discussion of the sitting of the bracelet. I would like to know what you think of the homage 40mm Bliger Explorer II with rotating bezel or the Parnis homage Explorer II versions, please? And, if it isn’t too much to ask, which of the three do you think you prefer or is the better homage? Maybe a comparison video?? I always hit the Like button on your videos and thanks again for all your time and efforts!
This is one Rolex watch I'd really like to own - Over here in Norway, the price is listed as anything from Rolex's own $8500 USD to almost $10K USD. At around 10 x more expensive than any watch I've ever owned, it remains a pipe dream.
904L steel 490 Vickers - 316 400 Vickers. 904 has greater corrosion resistance, polishes better and is harder. Rolex at the time they introduced 904 had to procure new machinery in order to process it.
So I’m thinking Jody is Mr. X! I’m not sure why, but I always think that Rolex watch do look way better than all their competition. Design and execution is unique. Fantastic watch.
Love the Polar Explorer 2. One of a very few Rolex's that actually perks my interest (others are a couple models of the Airking). Would prefer the 40mm version though. But lovely watch
It’s a nice watch , I have considered buying one afew times even tried two on at Watchfinder bluewater- my only two issues with it are 1) the dials of both versions are just so bland they almost absorb light and 2) i don’t personally feel its worth the 10k price tag .
And maybe show us a watch collection of someone without an unlimited budget, but with great value watches. A collection you appreciate (beside your own, which we have seen). Would love that also.
The explorer 2 is a very nice watch and the size is good. 40 is too small. The only reason it doesn't wear well on a tiny wrist is because Rolex don't know how to design a case that hugs the wrist. The case is like a gondola that doesn't curve at the lugs and the bracelet does not drop as it should. Have a look at the Longines Conquest for example with its curved lugs and bracelet which drops straight down over the wrist. This oyster tapers way too far as well to a child size clasp which makes me sick too. That aside it is a very nice piece
Hi Jody, I too am fond of squeezing myself into damp cracks - but I'm not sure I should be called a 'spelunker'. That would indeed be a rather unromantic moniker, although perhaps technically accurate.
I would be thrilled to see Mr. X's collection. Once upon a time I had this Rolex. I really enjoyed it however I flipped it because my sports car addiction costs me more than my timepiece habit)))
I sold my last Rolex Submariner to help fund a new 408 Windsor stroker engine for my '61 Ford Falcon drag car. Although I recently picked up a black dial Rolex Explorer II (216570) and I like it more than my previous ceramic sub. It's my favorite Rolex!
Hm. You are not the first on UA-cam who is not thrilled with Sub and now with the Explorer when you get chance to try it. Few days ago, in a local Rolex and Tudor store, I saw that white Explorer right next to the Yachtmaster 40 (for which I thought that is my dream Rolex) and it really looks great (also Tudor Black Bays). I realized that my dream Rolex would be Polar Explorer with Yachtmaster rotating bezel😏. But, since this watches are out of my price range, I bought me that same day Citizen Promaster Marine automatic in black PVD case. Summer is coming😀.
I have this Rolex and I have a 20cm wrist size. The watch itself suits me fine but you are right about the small tapering oyster bracelet and when I turn my wrist around the bracelet looks ever so dainty. Thanks for the great review 👍
Just purchased this watch,, fell in love with it. I normally buy watches around 41mm and this fits my 7/1/2 inch wrist perfect. So if you a real man and you haven’t got girly wrists then it’s awsome.
The original Explorer design is my favorite, but your video has the Explorer II growing on me. A 42mm is perfect for me, though the effective lug-to-lug is pushing it. I have some 44mm watches with 50-51mm lug-to-lug that work, but any bigger and they wouldn't fit my 7.25" wrist perfectly. Those timegrapher results are a thing of beauty.
Ah, the explorer II, one of the few watches I prefer in a white dial and don't mind got a fixed bezel... It's so handsome 🤩... Hiw Mr X let you peel off the stickers Jody??? I feel so envious of you 🥺... Saludos desde México 😄🖖
+1 for Mr. X SOTC! ALso, this is the wrong Explorer II. The 16570 is the winner and I don't just say that because I have one. 40mm as opposed to 42mm, red GMT hand (better than orange). So nice. Anyway, love the channel Jody!
Enjoyed the review and shining the light on this one. I like the looks of it a lot better than I thought that I would and would be sorely tempted if it were within my current budget. For some reason the light had not dawned on me that the Explorer had the GMT function and truth be told I like the looks of this one a lot better than the looks of the vaunted Pepsi and Bat Man GMTs that Rolex has chosen to make almost impossible to get.
The Explorer in my opinion is probably the best value all rounder everyday timepiece in the range which can also be affordable at your dealer or on the second hand market. I did the same & picked up a couple from one of the guys I buy from in the US for just under 6K USD a few months back less the taxes thinking the same, so a great deal on a great offering from Rolex.
I paid $3300 for my 1994 S serial 16570 polar I picked up in Aug 2016. It was fitted with the optional Submariner bracelet which is also date stamped the same year. At that time, they were still the least popular sports model as I suppose they still are now however I just checked prices today and they are about $2,000 US higher.
I remember when almost all the SS Rolex models were $115. The extra $15 was the cost of the Oyster band. The original Explorer was called The Hard Rolex. My personal Rolex was the GMT Master II with the all black bezel and Jubilee bracelet.
Hi mate, just ordered 18/1/21 a Seiko Sportura kinetic SUN025 Polar. If u want to review this watch, unbox and remove stickers etc let me know. I’m up in Ipswich, Qld. Love the channel. Cheers Steve J
Nicely done video, Jody. One could easily hear you speaking as enthusiastically about a cracking $99 special from AliExpress. I appreciate that the only favoritism you show is towards quality, whether that be Rolex or Phoibos. Well done!
Hats off to Mr X, should we all be so lucky as to have a friend like that! I am utterly smitten by the explorer range, out of all the watches Rolex produce it's the line that clutches as sharply at my heart strings as it would do my wallet. I would however be torn between buying this solely or picking up a BB58 + a GS model for the same combined price as the explorer alone, either way I'd hardly be on to a loser hey. Love seeing pieces like this brought to your channel and given the same love an AliExpress bargain would be, keep on keepin on big fella.
Very nice. Very, very nice. As much as I would like to say that there are many good reasons (besides cost) to not own this watch, I cannot see even one. Beautiful to look at, accuracy beyond all others and just enough complication to be interesting without being obnoxious. As to the size, I agree with you regarding size and I only own 3 watches 42mm or larger. But this is a Rolex! And if they say that the style suits 42mm then who am I to argue? This watch is a complete fantasy for me, but I see it as the pinnacle that other Watch companies must continue to strive to meet. Great review. Thank you, Mr X for the chance to see this Beauty.

Beautiful piece, although it doesn't beat the Explorer (1) as everyday watch, in my opinion, of course. Looking forward to watching that 2 x Jody video 😅
Until now this had been one of my favorite Rolex watches in terms of aesthetics , but I agree that it's too big after the jump. to 42mm. The Pagani Designs homage should make the folks at Rolex nervous if they haven't already gone to general quarters.
Just saw the Pagani. Now that this watch isn’t ‘walk in and buy’ anymore I’m tempted. Hate doing it but if Rolex refuses to clean up the game (and they could - and don’t want to hear about the pandemic) then not going to feel bad if I do.
Great vid Jody! My understanding is the Rolex crown being positioned upright on the crown is a myth and is luck of the draw. And a yes to Mr. X’s collection please!
Got hold of a clean & used Submariner 16610 with box & papers for $4,000USD 8 yrs ago & it's now valued around $7,000. A good clean Sub is without doubt a serious investment! Another great review Jody. If you get the chance, the Omega Speedmaster would be worthy of a review :-)
Too big for me too, plus it’s white face doesn’t float my boat. Other than my much loved 2002 Sea Dweller, any “tool watches” I own occupy a much lower price bracket. An Explorer is high on my “want” list, but it would be an Explorer 1.........a true slow burning gem if ever there was one. Great review again Jody. I love some watches that you don’t and I hate some watches that you love, and that’s how true reviews should be. Keep up the good work mate.
Obtain a steel sports Rolex with the stickers still on? Mr. X truly is an enigmatic fellow. While I’m more of a Submariner guy, I’d take this Explorer II in a heartbeat. I love how that safety orange GMT hand pops against the sparse white background.
A nice, fair review. I bought a 216570 in Germany (Dusseldorf to be exact) late last year. I paid 7,300 Euro (or thereabouts) or just shy of $11,500 AUD. But unlike in Australia, I got to walk straight up to a counter say "Guten Tag, Ich möchte eine Rolex kaufen" and walk out with one for my $700 odd extra. If I did that in Brisbane, well, I'd be escorted out by security because very few people have even my faltering command of 40 years ago high school German. Wore it on wrist for 6 weeks or so and then it went in the bank box that gets opened when one of the kids needs a house downpayment. After the Air King, it's the nicest Rolex I have ever worn but that is damnation with feint praise as I have never thought Rolexes to be such-a-much.
That Polar Explorer is one of my all time favourite Rolexes, great review! Too bad there aren't that many affordable homage options for it. Can't wait for the GMT-Master II review... Cheers!
Hey Jody, could we possibly be looking at a budget GMT video in the near future? Not sure how many quality ones there are, but if they are out there, you'd be the one to find them!
Yet another fantastic review Jody. I wear a 42-43 Aquis and it’s fine for me so size isn’t really an issue. Think I have to agree with your thoughts though about bracelet taper and then there is the god awful cyclops. Nah... could just never justify spending that sort of cash on any watch even though it will increase in value, but you can’t argue about the quality. Would love to see Mr. X on the channel, nice he got a mention on the superb SW podcast as well. 👍😁
Hi Jody, that's a gorgeous watch but for me its just to big, a 40 would be fantastic. Think we all would love to see Mr X's extensive watch collection on the show, fantastic review again 😎👍
The only Rolex worth having: the GMT/ Submariner dials on 40mm watches with rotating bezels are too small, smaller that the Explorer 214270 and Milgauss 116400. The hands and indexes are enamel coated white Gold, according to the AD showroom manager of DMR Altrincham Cheshire UK, but he also told me the dials are Gold. It's pointless setting the GMT 24 HR hand to GMT unless you are in the UK in winter or you are on holiday outside the UK in winter and using it as a home time indicator. It's main use is an AM/PM indicator for cavers or Polar Explorers who set it to their country or supply ship time. Donnt think they will make the bezel ceramic, as it would shatter crawling through narrow underground passages. I would get this; the Explorer 214270 and Milgauss 116400GV in both options including this, as unlike the polar edition, the black dial has thr phantom, floating hands of the 1971 1655 original. Almost 05:20 in the UK and 14:20 EAST
I’d love to see some comparison videos against Mr X collection. Like a Oris next to a Rolex, your aqua terra to a date just (if he has one) and so on. Would be great to get your opinion on the value difference
Duuuuuude, definitely do the Mr X SOTC! That guy is hilarious on IG... I can imagine he'd be pretty entertaining on the channel. But how would that work? Would you just blur his face out? Lol. Plus that collection would be gold content!

Obtain a steel sports Rolex with the stickers still on? Mr. X truly is an enigmatic fellow. While I’m more of a Submariner guy, I’d take this Explorer II in a heartbeat. I love how that safety orange GMT hand pops against the sparse white background.
Almost stopped the second I say that shirt. But persevered. Nice watch.
For 42 to taper down to 16 is going to be top heavy.
Yeah... That ship has sailed too
Yeah, went into my local AD: ‘we will put you on the list.’ Not standing by the phone....
Amazing watch . Fits my 7 1/2 wrist perfectly . Do you prefer the explorer 2 or white Daytona c ?
I like it. Have the older version and is just the right size for me.
That Polar Explorer is one of my all time favourite Rolexes, great review! Too bad there aren't that many affordable homage options for it. Can't wait for the GMT-Master II review... Cheers!
I wonder how long it will take his misses to realize that Jody actually is the mysterious Mr. X himself... :)
Couldn't back in the 2019, nor can it be bought in 2021! Unless you pay the 30% add on, and that is how every Rolex CAN be bought!
Didn't expect the low amplitude on that watch, it should have 260 and above, but nevertheless it's a wonderful and accurate watch
I’m just glad Mr. X followed me back on instagram 👍🏼. Great video as always!
Remember the Explorer from my younger days. The Hard Rolex.
Please Jody, make a review of the paganni desing Explorer II
Hi Jody, that's a gorgeous watch but for me its just to big, a 40 would be fantastic. Think we all would love to see Mr X's extensive watch collection on the show, fantastic review again 😎👍
Solid points re the old model, will be very interesting to see if they ever reduce the size back down, my pick is eventually yes.
Great review
Duuuuuude, definitely do the Mr X SOTC! That guy is hilarious on IG... I can imagine he'd be pretty entertaining on the channel. But how would that work? Would you just blur his face out? Lol. Plus that collection would be gold content!
whether we see his face or not, or even just a voice. Yes I want to see Mr. X's collecton
