Mr X is baaaack! After a year of selling, he is now buying, and for him, metal should be precious. What do you think of this one? Too small? Too expensive? Both? Or your grail watch? I like it a lot, but I'd probably still go steel and have $6250 in my bank account. But one does what one needs to do to start a relationship with one's AD does one not? Cheers, Jody
Mr. X exists to hide Jody's major watch purchases from his wife.
Shhhh! She'll find out!
What is that Scottish word for dilly dallying
It looks lovely

You see, it's actually useful for exploring caves. Every child knows that dragons are attracted to gold, and if you ever encounter one it will eat the guy with the two-tone Explorer while you can escape.
If only Bilbo Baggins had one...
Hublot tutti fruuti best caving watch confirmed
Or you could throw it to the Dragon
This watch received way too much unwarranted hate when it was released. It’s really growing on me. The gold seemingly disappears under certain lighting and gives it a nice warm tone.
How can anyone hate a Rolex??
I have a feeling that Mr X doesn't exist. Maybe he's a figment of Jody's imagination and just uses this alter ego to get away with buying luxury watches 🤔. Pretty smart. As for the two tone, it's not my cup of tea but I do like the standard one. Great work with the intro btw.
Shhhhhhhhhh! Don't tell my wife!

His best intro so far! Very entertaining 😁

I'll wait for the Bollywood musical intro first before passing judgement on that - just because Jody worked at the Opera House ... 🤔
That was such a tense and delightful little story!
When I was little, I had Saturday morning cartoons. Now I have Saturday morning watches with Jody.
I love how "Rolex people" are freakiing out "THEY RUINED THE PERFECT TOOL WATCH!". Dude, a G-Shock is a tool watch. Rolexes have not been tool watches since "Got the call!" became a real thing. PS - Mr X has immaculate taste in T-Shirts!
When was got the call released
@@oscarosullivan4513 Probably around the time the movie version of American Psycho was released.

For that price they can't even align the rehaut properly with the dial on a simple 3hands watch 😅 Not that people will care cause most who bought it will only care about secondary value.
I have heard that the crown isn't the reference point to align the rehaut. They use certain letters instead, which however leads to a slight misplacement of the crown at 12.
@@benzinbruder96 Thanks
I got this watch at the weekend and it’s fantastic. What I don’t understand is people bashing it for being a two tone tool watch when there are many others like the submariner etc. Awesome video mate.
Thinner as well closer to its purpose
Stellar intro, Jody! Loving the winter outfits -- made me feel a little cooler as Canada continues to roast through summer. Groovy Seiko cameo! Oh, and the Rolex was pretty cool too....
Definitely one that needs to be seen to be understood. Renders make it look crap, but in person it fits so well and the gold adds just a flash of fun to what is quite an understated watch design.
Great to see this here! This watch really works in 36 Rolesor with gloss dial. Not a fan of the steel. Still prefer and wear the 214270 in 39mm w/matt dial. Very sporty and masculine. If I were a dressier fella, I'd call for this one. The weight of Rolesor is awesome on wrist. If you're sweating the scratches, gold ain't your friend.
They’ve reduced the size of the Explorer to go back to tradition in a way. But it solves a problem that’s been in their catalogue for quite some time. That being the Milgauss, Airking and Explorer were all treading on each other’s toes at 39/40mm and time only watches. Now they can bring out a new Airking and maybe Milgauss and they have space to coexist with the Explorer. I bet the Airking goes 39mm or similar and stops using the same Milgauss case.
They discounted the OP 39 in black and white. I bet we see the Milgauss and Airking filling those gaps in 2022.
If you consider the wider catalogue this change makes sense on all fronts.
I even hope they bring down the milgauss to 38mm and to a thickness of about 12mm. It would be an instant buy for me
I think you’re spot on: milgauss place is too much a niche and not necessary since Rolex offers the anti-magnetic properties on their base line. AirKing at 39 makes sense and, if they follow the trend of slimming the lugs it may appear more true to size whereas the current 40mm wears much larger.
I think you are spot on with these predictions.
I mean honestly, I love it. I have no issues with a 2 tone explorer for the exact reason you mentioned. The whole "tool watch" argument goes out the window because less than 1% of people who own Explorers actually use them as tool watches (and I don't mean they wear it to mow the lawn, etc).
Personally I think the reason it is 36mm is because Rolex intends this to be a "Unisex" model. I'm guessing they expect a lot of the sales to be to or for women.
$15k and 36mm is a problem for me due to a large wrist, 39mm or 41mm would of been ideal for me. That being said I don't have 15 grand to spend, and if I did... I'd be looking hard at some other luxury pieces instead (A Lange comes to mind...).
Well said. I just got an OP 41 but I didn’t spend 17k which is it’s market price I picked it up at retail for 17k I would have obviously got a high Horology watch instead like a Hublot
A Lange for 15k, you think you are in 1999? 15k don’t buy a A Lange bracelet!
Interesting how that 36mm has all of that wristpresence. I got myself a very fun “gold” seiko 5 (SNKE06K1S; 37mm) a couple of years back to get a feel for this kind of size. Obviously a completely different category, although it did warm me up to the “smaller” options out there. But yeah, this Roller, definitely on the grail-list in the so-wrong-that-it’s-kinda-right category! Thanks for the review!
I actually hike around Alaska with my watches or take them into the ocean when I am on vacation. I just picked up an OP 41 and functionally it has all the same specs as an explorer so it can do everything an explorer was intended to do just a differnt dial
Love the two tone "tool watches"! I own a Tudor S&G and a Speedy Reduced two tone. I have neither dived nor timed blistering lap times. I have used the chrono to sear a mean ahi tuna, though.
Great reading material! 🏎

@@JustOneMoreWatch Sport was on top in the '80-90s, there was room for accidental sensation to happen like before, but they had the technology for great television coverage what they didn't have before. @@JustOneMoreWatch It's definitely more exciting than it has been for a while. Maybe for the younger crowd this rivalry will once hold the magic that Senna/Prost does for me.
@@JustOneMoreWatch I’d ask who you’re supporting but don’t want to start any arguments in the comments.
I’m a huge Max fan myself though so long as the racing is good I’m happy enough whoever wins.
I would have never thought that Rolex could have problems aligning the rehaut properly with the dial....
I have a question for you. How do you set your camera for the lumen take? ISO, shuttle speed, aperture? I do not get it so clear and for so long. Thanks for the episode!
I picked up the 216570 42mm Explorer II recently and I love it. I'm I bigger guy so anything smaller than 40mm looks too small on my wrist. As for 2-tone watches in general... not my cup of tea but I understand others may appreciate them.
My biggest concern with the latest version is that one of its greatest appeals was its always been a strap monster . Now that its 19mm it reduces your options and even worse when you remove the bracelet there are two deep grooves in the case that looks ugly on a strap.
Informative AND entertaining as always - thanks! 👌
Way too small for my size preference, but everyone is different.
I purchased an Explorer 1016 new on a Jubilee bracelet in 1986 (I have since gifted it to my daughter). I applaud the return to 36mm and after looking at your vid, I get it! I like the two-tone Explorer. It says "up-scale mod!" Almost like taking a Grand Seiko and modding it to make it uniquely your own. Good vid. Keep at it!
Best intro ever 💜❤ I would absolutely love the SS version of this watch in my collection
Loved the new style of intro. Also, a good book to read at night. I'd also read the development story of the Honda NSX.
UA-cam: the pefect intro doesnt exist
Jody: “hold my beer, mate”
Hilarious intro... love it! Was that a Deferichs watch box I spied? Just curious.I have one that looks very similar, but I opted for the wood top.
I don't understand why people complain about a two tone tool watch when we have full gold submariners, which in my eyes are the ultimate tool watch in the Rolex collection.
I think the majority who complained are the fans of the Explorer that loved it for its understated simplicity. The Submariner has surpassed the tool watch identity and has become a status symbol hence the gold Sub makes sense that way. The same outrage will happen if the Milgauss gets the gold treatment I reckon.

Now that's a Looker! 😍⌚
Thank you Jody for this kind of vids. what watch suits you and your wrist,
I don't know maybe we have the same wrist size. ☺️👌
Hi Jody,
The intro gave me a loud laugh at the end! Well done! 😂
I have to try on the 36mm Explorer again. I assume it’s going to wear differently than the Datejust models.
Best regards,
Claus
It does. I have this and 36 dj and the explorer wears smaller.
Clever setup for this one! Thanks Jody from central Ohiooooo! Love your work. Thanks for all the content. ❤
I can't tell how many times i got excited seeing the notification of a new JOMW video pop up on my phone after a long boring day, never change jodi, cheers 👌.
I bought this for my 40th birthday and I apsolutely love it. I also didn't have to wait long, alltough I have no relationship with the ad. Just wasone of the first ones to ask for it. It's small no question about it, but for me it's not too small.
Somehow I have hard time believing it becoming hard to get piece, atleast I hope it doesen't.
I like the gold on the hands, numerals and the indices. Everywhere else it just looks like bling. Maybe wear it with gold buttoned shirts and jackets, otherwise it's a show pony. "Pony" to match the size of the watch.
If 2 tone is a must, this is the cheapest and as you mentioned, available at retail price. But 2 tone is more suitable for Date Just. Oyster Perpetual shld hv a 2 tone actually, may b soon?
When I heard about this watch I thought "Tacky", usual Rolex. When you see it though it looks really good and I think being a 36 all of the proportions come together to make it look loads better than the older larger Explorers. I think it looks better in steel but could easily live with this, they could avoid the bezel alignment problems by going back to not having the writing on it, it looks silly anyway.
In my view the watches that are growing in size are aimed at particular market segments, in particular for particular geographies. Likewise, this watch coming in at a more conservative size is likely aimed at particular segments. I imagine this intersects with some segments and some markets buying to line their safes rather than for daily wear.
Which markets want 'em big and which markets want 'em little, I wonder.
The intro just had me laughing out loud being all alone in the room. Thank you so much!
Watching this on Sunday here in Canada, great way to start the day with my favorite watch UA-camr and a cup of tea. Cheers
Jody keep up the good work man
I have the same brand watchbox. Except i have the 4 watch version with open front portion where i keep my keys/wallet. Great watch box.
How much is a silver bezel and aftermarket bracelet? , loved the gold tuna mind....
Glad to see a mid roll ad too, hope youre earning.
Amazing video! Your intros are getting better and better! Not a fan of the two tone Explorer at all. I think function should come first, but I suppose Rolex isn't targeting function anymore anyways
Just bought a Rolex explorer I, 36mm, two tone watch from AD in January 2023. In my opinion its the greatest Rolex as a dress and sports watch. In this modern world any mechanical watch with a date window is a nuisance. Simplest, value and prestige for the money and all the latest technological improvements.! 😳 WOW 😳
Well done! LOL intro. Love your work even when it's a watch I'll never even aspire to own.
I loved that into!!!! Captured my heart
Not sure I agree on the “tool” comment…there are plenty of tools who wear gold rolexes ;)
This one looks really nice, a tad smallish to be sure, but as you pointed out it wears pretty well and makes a statement on your wrist.. Could they have 'brushed' the gold centre links? It would certainly hide the myriad small scratches which will appear after even short-term use. A display caseback to show off that wee engine would have been a plus, but hey, Rolex can't go too far out on a limb, after all there is AR coating on the underside of the sapphire crystal. P.S. Did you actually give it back to Mr. X?? I would be VERY reluctant to do so!!!! I aint generally a 'Roller' lover but this one rocks, just not on my wrists (being destitute does that!)
are the center links solid gold ? in the middle ?
I tried this on last week a my local AD. It was in the window! Too dainty for my taste and I feel it’s aiming more as a ladies watch.
Honestly, I think it looks a lot nicer in “person” than on the computer generated images Rolex uses- I’m still not convinced by it but the gold is significant less offensive looking than one might expect.
Great content buddy! Keep it up. I actually like this 2 tone more than the ss version.
The intro? LOVED IT!
Jody really enjoyed the pre-show extremely entertaining. Thanks
I kind of like it. The size is perfect and the two tone looks pretty good. It's gonna look sweet like you said in a few years when it's all beat up. I think it will look a lot better. Then again I like my watches looking worn!
Improving all the time. The intro raises it to the next level for sure. Very entertaining!
Great review/drama and thanks to Mr X 👍 . I'm conflicted over this one, the dial and hands look amazing, but there is just too much gold on the bezel and case for my liking. It does look like it would appeal to my daughter, who has already taken over my 36mm Datejust 😁
Tried both stainless steel and two tone and the two tone wore bigger amazing looking watch 71/2 inch wrist big hands but it looked fantastic and I'm getting one
I just have a personal preference for a two-tone jubilee over a two-tone oyster. And for the Explorer, I definitely prefer the all steel over the two-tone. 36 or 39 is a push to me.
I appreciate the beautiful Swiss movement and especially love watching your review… but I think I’ll have to wait for the Pagani version 🤣
I just wish EVERY watch brand would do away with polished band parts and go full brushed.
Mate, you are beginning to go lot beyond a simple watch-review channel and coming into the territory of comedy and great fun. Congratulations!! BTW, lovely house and neighbourhod you live in...
The intro 👌🏻🤣
Also while I’m not a fan of 2-tone as a rule and probably wouldn’t buy one for myself, for some reason I kind of like it.
I'm on the list at two different Rolex dealers for this model. I wear a lot of gold jewelry and don't like mismatching wearing different metals, that's why I'm trying to get the TT.
A great review Jodi, I guess you're lucky the guy with the camera near the doorstep didn't wander off with the box. I had to laugh when you said good night to the box of watches. The two tone explorer looks pretty good but is a significant premium over the SS model. I also wonder (I've not checked) if the gray market SS is near or more expensive then a retail two tone given that wait times could be shorter that this may make more sense. I have a 36mm Nomos and that wears fine on my 7" wrist but that does have a bezel this looks thinner than the atom. I think this would be fine on my wrist but may take a little to get used to..
The cold opens are getting better and funnier! I think we need a new and updated Mr X state of the collection. Good to see he's not parted ways with the gold turtle and bracelet you bought him 😂😂
I have no doubt he'd love that. Maybe at the end of the year perhaps?
@@JustOneMoreWatch a jody v Mr X head to head lol
Love the intro! Especially Mr X's wrist watch check before dropping off the Explorer. 😆
That’s such a beautiful watch! I’d still prefer the SS one so I could wear it everywhere & not worry (too much) about it.
Now we know what the real Mrs JOMW looks like. Love your work mate! That 2tone is gorgeous. Interesting about the presence making it look bigger.
I lost it when you kissed your watch box goodnight 😂 you’re a real comedian
It's an Explorer. For ladies.
Love the Explorers! TT or SS.
Wouldn’t consider paying that for a watch, but would pay a few K (of course, I won’t get one for that).
But that’s on Rolex and the market. Good for them.
Too small and it makes as much sense as a 2 tone Sub.... But I do quite like it! Loved the intro, Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻
I did like the detail of Mr. X showing off the Seiko Golden Turtle that you did a video of a while back. Nice opening.
Funny video ;), its a lot of text in the dial (almost as a book ) somtimes MB get a lot of negativs because they use to much text and logo in the dial... i think this is more info that you need ( just personal reflection )..
should the crown schow in a direction. on my one it is lopsided
Way to small, but huge improvements. Great job as always.
Awesome video one of my recent favorites
Hi Jody, may I ask your wrist width please? (and/or mr X). I know you’re around 7” in size, but any ideas on width? (Knuckle to knuckle if that makes sense?). I have 7.25” wrist with ~2.25” width, and would love to get one of these in steel. Unfortunately my AD didn’t have any 36 OPs available to use as reference.
When I picked up my OP41 in May they brought 1 of these out for me to check out. It is a great looking watch but straight away I thought it looked tiny. Didn’t look too bad on my 8” wrist. I also tried a new OP36 (Silver Dial) on and that looked better on wrist. I wore a 38mm TAG for years with no issue, but once I stepped up to 40mm+ watches I can’t seem to go back now.
What color OP 41 you got? I just got one too
@@WatchUnwind bright blue dial. Tiffany would have been great. Hindsight aye? Haha
@@alangreenwood870 haha yeah I thought red was going to be the most popular I honestly thought the Tiffany was less wearable and a bit tacky. Who would have known. @@WatchUnwind haha... yeah, I'm not a fan of the colour, as you say not very wearable.

Not a big fan of yellow gold more a pink gold fan. But I’m recently considering a two-tone.
I definitely can’t see a Rolex Explorer in two-tone. IMHO, some things are not made to be put together.
Hilarious intro...well done!! Fascinating look and review. TT watches should come as a kit with a pinky ring.
Hey mate! Saw your comment on the Lexus LS430 video! I'm still in love with mine. Which is just as well, as it'll last forever.

Mr.X is finally back 😁
He's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!
I quite like it. Not sure why some sections of the internet are getting all twisted up about gold on this particular model - All of Rolexes tool watches (Sub, GMT, Daytona etc etc ) come in or with gold, why not this one? I will stick with my 1016 and two tone vintage datejust tho...
I really like it. I've come to appreciate smaller watches and I can easily see myself wearing this one. Well done Rolex! I only wish the Explorer II was 40 mm. 😢
I just can't get onboard with the sizing. I have a relatively skinny (for my 2.01m height) 7.25" (18.4cm) wrist. I saw the new 36mm pre-owned (still had the stickers on it) at Tourneau a few weeks back. I could tell just from looking that it wouldn't wear well on me. I also tried on the Tudor Black Bay 36 the other day, and it was just too small (sales guy agreed). I am still sad the 39 has been discontinued. It was such a great in between size, and as an example, I love my 39.5mm Alpinist. I see the 36mm watches look okay on the wrist of some guys, but I also see the same gaps between the wrist edge and the watch on them as I see when I wear a 39. It's just more proportional for me. Ah well, I no longer have to worry about getting on the Rolex wait list for my next birthday with the 39mm Explorer gone (and up to crazy prices pre-owned).
Absolutely loved your intro, cheers!!!!🤣😂😉👏🏻👍🏻
That intro. Jody! You excel yourself! (In the late Sir Nigel Hawthorne voice).

Good review Jody
The two tone makes it almost a dress watch. It's..interesting.
I could see that one being very popular with the ladies. It's dressy enough to wear as a dress watch, casual enough to wear casually, and doesn't look like a sub, daytona, or GMT, so it won't get you mugged.

Kevin- I’m wearing my brand new Rolex two-tone steel and gold Explorer.
KQ- A what?
Kevin- Rolex’s new variation on their legendary field watch. A two-tone gold and steel Explorer.
KQ- Are you f*uckin with me?
Kevin- No. What?
KQ- Get the f*uck out of here with that. There’s no such thing as a gold FIELD WATCH. Who would use that out in the field? You Rolex sheep are so easy. What’s next? What other dumb shït can Rolex get you to buy? How about a Daytona travel alarm clock? You could time your shower in the morning while on a business trip. Two tone Explorer. Look at that cheap gaudy looking thing.
Kevin- Cheap?! You know how much I paid for this? Do you know how much this watch cost?
KQ- You paid for that? Rolex should be paying you to wear it. My Gawd, Watch World is out of control. A gold field watch. Unbelievable. That’s like some stupid sh!t Marc Goldberg would buy. Get the f*uck out of here, Kevin. I mean it! Get out. Leave! Get the f*uck off my couch. You can come back when you come to your senses and are wearing a Sinn. Or a G-Shock. That’s it. Show over. That’s all for today folks.
Man that intro, man that SHIRT!! I wish two tone would resonate but that yellow gold is to much for me!!
I do like gold coloured hands on a black dial. Feel this would be a bit too wee for my 7 3/4” wrist but in any case if I had 15 grand to spend on a watch I’d probably spend it on two or three quality pieces.
That intro 😂. This piece is very interesting and I love it! Keep up the great work Mr. X! .... I mean Jody 😂 🤫
