- Kevin Franke spoke with our Paul Nelson following a statement during a Utah legislative meeting, where he said laws need to change to prevent people like Jodi Hildebrandt from manipulating the system's loopholes. In a prepared statement, Franke said: "A licensed mental health professional should not be able to 'turn off' the ethics and standards associated with his/her professional licensure by acting under the nebulous guise of something called a 'life coach.'”

So he's mad that nobody reached out to him but then immediately said that he wouldn't answer his phone when CPS tried to reach out to him....
And I guess it's been memory-holed that numerous 8 Passengers followers reached out to DCFS about red flags of abuse (before Ruby was working with Jodi) and Utah's DCFS left praising the Franke's methods. Our DCFS generally takes children away from low-income and families of color while ignoring abuse in white, middle-class homes.

right but he was under the spell of a cult. now that he's "free" he's the perfect person to tell authorities this is the problem with the system. the system could have helped him if they had been able to help with without having someone to pick up the phone or answer the door.

Yet now he considers himself an expert for changing the laws ? What is wrong with this picture. He needs serious counseling himself and to be kept away from children.
I don’t think we should assume he hasn’t apologised. He doesn’t need to apologise publicly to us. He only needs to apologise to his kids - which he may have already done.

The fact that he takes no blame in this blows my mind. Being abesent by choice doesnt mean you can wipe your hands of the blame. You also didnt "answer the door" for your own children.
He abandoned his children not hearing from them for a year leaving them with Jodi KNOWING her believes. He was THERE when a bed was taken away as well as privacy and food and when Christmas was denied. He was there when his kids were being slowly isolated from family and friends and during all of the years of exploitation on UA-cam. When things got rough he simply walked away leaving his kids behind.
He is not innocent! Not al all. Oh And let's not forget that when he was first listened by the police he recalled how a great mother Ruby was and was still using the same language Jodi taught them, and he also wanted to sue his own daughter. And now he wants to change the law??? I dont buy it!
I don't know much about Mormons, but I have learned they would do anything to keep their family toughener, even by covering up pretty horrible things, so I assume he aims at getting custody of the kids and reunite with Ruby as soon as she gets out which might be in only 4 years.

Taking the one thing Chad was good at and enjoyed - his football, sending him to a wilderness camp, humiliating him in front of everyone over his mobile phone, taking doors off bathrooms, etc. etc.

Not even talking about this particular case, but how about we make it illegal to baptize minors without their COGNITIVE consent! Meaning, they are cognitively old enough to understand exactly what baptism means! That is NOT an eight year old! Also, make it illegal for minors to meet with bishop alone in a closed door room! There is so much child endangerment that takes place just in Mormonism.

Mormons coerce and abuse their children all the time and are able to get away it due to religious freedom. Mormon LEADERS get away with abuse. I believe that there was crucial of Kevin and Ruby's parenting long before Jodi became involved. Kevin was a grown man, a college professor and he allowed himself to be manipulated by his wife and her psrtner, Jodi. I believe that Jodi had political connections in the Utah AG's office. Iit wouldn't be surprising to find she was protected for a time by that connection.
Utah does need laws to protect children who are exploited by their parents on social media sites. I believe that the 6 children in 8 Passengers should have had a portion of the money made from their channel set aside in a trust not controlled by their parents just as children in movies/television currently have. Apparently there are numerous Utah families, including Ruby's family members make money documenting their families, which in a sense is an invasion of their privacy.

You can abandon your children. The custodial parent is the one who takes all the responsibility and the consequences. It is done every day. He says he didn't keep in touch for a year and will not explain where he was living. He attended his Mormon ward and apparently didn't explain where his wife and kids were.

About the statement that "this wouldn't have happened if it weren't for Jodi" as an avid follower of this family they Showed A damaging level of abuse and shared via "Story Time's" of abuse that went way back to when the older kids were very tiny.... They exposed a lot in those video's, it was clear to many viewers that abuse was going on before Jodi. It is My personal opinion that Keven and Rubi just wouldn't have gotten caught because the abuse was enough that It would have slipped ever so slightly under the radar.... I hope he has had a massive wake up call and has allowed his views to evolve to better practices...

yesss and just what they were comfortable and confident showing online publicly was already disturbing. imagine what they weren't showing, i'm sure it was much worse than anyone saw. Ruby insinuated many times on her channel that she "can't show" the viewers times where she was yelling or punishing them off camera.
Glad this is being addressed. Life coaching is a joke. Laws in Utah do not protect children enough. No matter what your feelings are about who is bringing this matter to your attention, it is good that these matters are being discussed. The LDS church leaders should also be investigated for recommending Jodi as a therapist for their members.

He participated in the ridiculous punishments, such as denying his oldest son a bedroom for six months because he told his younger brother they were going to Disney world in the morning. Do you think that punishment is not abusive for the “crime committed”? He is simply trying to save his own ass, because he has culpability in the circumstances in which he finds himself.

He was part of the abuse long before Jodi (and yes I know it escalated after Jodi) but the cops and DCFS were going to the Franke house and he could have stepped in at any point to assist them. And to have helped them find out some if the kids were at Jodi's. He had plenty of time by himself to get counseling and deprogram and save his kids. He just waited and did nothing and still tried to have Shari arrested. At best he's a dumbass, but he's actually worse.
He is actually asking for pretty radical changes that I am sure he realizes would have put him in the hot seat if they had gotten involved sooner. . A year ago he sided with Jodi. He’s admitting that religious extremism is a problem. It’s a start. Child welfare needs more tools to help kids in brainwashing situations. Laws like this may have also saved Charles Vallow and his kids.

Based on what he knew about Ruby's abusive parenting he should have KNOWN that the two youngest children WOULD NOT be safe ALONE and isolated with her and Jodi unsupervised in the desert!!! It is interesting that Kevin is speaking about how the government dropped the ball because of "loopholes", but he literally dropped the ball as a father. He should have protected his family from Jodi, but instead he ignored his own misgivings and allowed her to rip his family apart.
