    Been looking at my 1968 Camaro and the Muncie that is in it.The trans is so light weight but ya I get it,TKX is nice especially with the 5th.This Muncie is standing its ground and will not budge on this 406 sbc 452hp motor with 456 Torque.I have put A beating on this trans and thought it would have busted already.The car with me in it weights just under 3k :-).Thanks for the video I am looking forward to the drive difference on the street.

    Exactly my configuration. 1968 Camaro rs/ss that had a 4-Speed Saginaw (factory setup was a Powerglide). Also keeping the mechanical clutch and the GM 621 aluminum bellhousing. Installed the 17805 trans yesterday. Encountered problems with HEI clearance to firewall, as angle of engine/trans assy changed. Using Bowler crossmember, need to shim it with appr. 3/4" to alter the angle back again. Had to widen the cutout for the shifter on tunnel sheetmetal. I now wonder where the shifter position is when I try to test fit my center console.

    You can buy a right angle tach drive adapter so you can run your speedo cable over your exhaust pipe and into the trans from the rear. That’s what I did

    Make sure you dial indicate your bell housing because They use a cone bearing and not a roller bearing

    My new TKX will be delivered tomorrow installing in a 69 camaro 454 big block. Any suggestions for the swap, I have the same cross member you do, and also same Hurst shifter. I also got a top plate adapter that moves the shifter back to the left to fit the original factory hole

    Nice. I'm considering a TKX for my Olds Rallye 350 and plan to use the factory clutch linkage. Did you center/align the bellhousing before installing the transmission? Is that required with the TKX?

    • @trbokmro
      @trbokmro  2 роки тому

      I didn't even take the bell off and the pressure plate comes with the disc alignment tool. Super easy swap!

      @@trbokmro oh ok. With the old TKO everyone was saying the bellhousing had to be centered within .005" of runout or it would eat up the front bearing in the transmission and violate the warranty.

    • @mikeburnett7028
      @mikeburnett7028 2 роки тому +2

      Must align bellhousing within .005 or damage will occur to front bearing and void your warranty

    So, how did it do? Was it necessary to trim the tunnel? What do your highway RPMs look like now as opposed to before?

      I installed a TKX in my 71 big block Nova model 18083 and rpm difference was fantastic. Was 75 mph at 3000, now is 75mph at 2150. This engine loves it. 3:08 rear with 27 inch tall tire

    Did you check the run out on the bell housing before installing the transmission

    • @trbokmro
      @trbokmro  Рік тому

      No, the 4 speed trans and old clutch showed no signed of improper alignment and when installing the 5 speed it slid right into the clutch and pilot bearing / aligned with the holes so well I didn’t see the need. Now if it is a new bell housing or aftermarket yes that would be a good idea to check imo.

    Good video but you're misinformed about there not being Ford/GM versions. Modern Driveline and everyone else lists a Ford and a separate GM version of each set of ratios, with different part numbers. My Ford TKX is a 17765, the same ratios but as a GM would be a 17805. The bellhousings are not the same, you use the same bellhousing as the Ford or GM TKO.

    • @trbokmro
      @trbokmro  2 роки тому

      According to Modern Driveline, no you are wrong. At least with the new TKX trans anyways, if I remember correct the old TKO's had variations from ford-GM.
