About 15 years ago, my father had a medical emergency, while sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to St. Thomas (U.S.V.I.). Before the U.S. Coast Guard could mount an effort & send aid, a massive Korean cargo ship bound for Africa intercepted the distress call & changed course over 100 miles to help. They were able to get him on board until a U.S. Coast Guard chopper arrived & transported him back to Florida & a hospital, where his life was saved just in time. Hats off to the cargo guys! There are good people out there & it's amazing how much sailors(wind or fuel operated) have each other's back. Thank you!
They covered the paint part of it first and *then* moved on to other stuff. So what’s the complaint for? If you paid attention you’d know when they stopped.
The fact that thousands of containers are lost at sea each year at this day and age actually blew my mind. My parents’ business is importing medical equipment and we once received a news from our shipping company that our shipment was lost. Oh we lost quite a lot of money that time.
4:50 The Eastland didn't capsize when crossing the Great Lakes, it capsized in the Chicago River while still tied to the dock.. 844 people lost their lives.
Ogponline battlefield 1 The boat had reached capacity of over 2,700 people but was so top heavy when the passengers overcrowded one side over the other the ship capsized. Also to make matters worse too many people were inside the ship so they drown because of little chance of escape.
4:58 No actually, she was docked in Chicago, and all the passengers shifted to the port side. She couldn't take the weight of so much stuff on board and capsized.
Yeah. Red and yellow is considered as color that raise the appetite. That's why many restaurant brands choose red or yellow or both in their logo and mascot. McD, KFC, Pizza Hut, etc.
Sleeping on a cruise ship was strange at first. Especially during large swells. But once my subconscious mind and body stopped thinking it was gonna be tipped off the bed. I had some of the best sleep of my life.

I've never heard of copper paint being red. I always thought it was greenish? Also. easy wooden vessels were sheathed in thin copper plate. I think there may be some confusion here. The red paint is primarily red (iron) oxide, at least in earlier times.

Can someone explain why a ship can stop in Port or on the water to pick up an SOS but cannot stop or slow down to PREVENT a multi million dollar collision between two ships. I just don't get it!
Well think about that 245 day cruise like this...if you saved just $10,000 per year for 10 years, you could take that trip. If you invested it in some more secure funds (not stocks necessarily) then you might be able to take the trip sooner depending on your rate of return. Although I'm not sure I'd want to be on a cruise ship for 245 days. I suspect this is probably more of a once-in-a-lifetime deal and doing it repeatedly might get old after a while. I'd say a 1-2 week cruise might be enough for me.
Fact: Yes, the ship hulls were copper paint based and gave it that historic red tint. However... That color limitation is not something that is followed all the time or even commonly in some cases anymore. A great example is the Costa Concordia that sank in 2012. It was pure white all the way down the side and down the hull. (Edit: There was a red hull deep below the waterline.)There are also some blue hulled ships too. In fact, the Carnival Fleet seems to primarily be pure white hulls or blue hulls nowadays. Tankers on the other hand... Those still tend to be red, but brown is another color that pops up. (Sometimes due to the red fading, of course, but pure brown all the way down does happen.) I've also come across blue and gray hulls. (Not much real life experience sadly but lots of videos/research/etc.) What's more, the draft markings aren't just red and white. Instead, it just requires contrasting colors/highly visible. (Red/White is an obvious one.) Blue/White is another.

My wife and I have gone on a few cruise lines and I haven't felt nausea from the swaying of the ships, but my wife has. For those that get a little nausea from the sway of the ships, try and get a cabin that has a balcony, or at least a window that could open up. At night when my wife got the nausea feeling, we opened the door slightly to the balcony to allow the outside air to come into our cabin. This allowed her stomach to settle and sleep without any troubles.
