All of the rail leading up to Crenshaw Lumber from Normandie are still the old PE rails, the UP did not upgrade the rails when UP rehabbed the area. They did replace the ties along the line.
Been a while since I last heard of a GP40P-2 on the LOW10, the last time I heard of one is when UP 1373 was on the job. Nice video though, very impressive that you saw a GP40P-2 on the LOW10
Great video, it’s kind of bittersweet seeing 1375 get more tagged over time cause I like seeing the graffiti but I’ve always seen it in Anaheim without
Locomotives 1375, 1394, and 1469 are getting a hell of a workout hauling tanker cars, flatcars, and other cars through the streets of beautiful downtown South Los Angeles and Torrance. First time I ever seen locomotives decorated with graffiti. And the hell of it is, the engines can’t be taken out of service for sandblasting and repainting because that’s going to #@#& up the scheduling and the workloads, and these locomotives are in short supply. Am I right or am I rhythm? Great video footage!
Good 📽️ video... In the opening, I think the shot was at the rock quarry just off of El Segundo Blvd or Rosecrans Blvd on the north side of the street, L.A. / Gardena border? Great catch of GP40P-2. Now if I can buy one in HO Scale to add to my Union Pacific diesel locomotive roster😂😂😂 As a fellow railfan myself, we have to be careful where we're taking photos... Some business and railroad it self don't take kindly of us on their property... Be careful out there... Just some friendly advice from one railfan to another.. Keep the videos coming and Happy New Year 2025 to you!!
I have seen this train constantly using the siding right before the siding to the lumber yard on western. I know they use to derail alot on the main line but now see them using the siding everytime and wonder why?
Would this be the proper place to ask why only 3 GP40P-2's wherever built? Stuff like this fascinates me, something rare apparently but still out there doing its thing, moving commerce.....very cool!
Southern Pacific only had 10 SDP45s on hand to replace 16 H24-66 train masters. SP had 2 SD9s rebuilt with their steam generators retained but found them very mediocre as commute locomotives. The order of 3 GP40P-2s were delivered a year after the train masters were retired.
@sanddabz5635 New Jersey transit have gp40p, which are similar to sp three Gp40p-2. But they been rebuilt in their Flairs, extending all the way back like a sd45.
I see the graffiti artwork. Welcome Union Pacific GTA crew and is engine GP40P-2 on the switching LOW 10 main line. Southern Pacific Rail Gangster's are working in the neighborhood. They picking up tank cars and they dropped off the customer's merchandise.
Ya gotta kinda think that as that train goes across street crossings people in cars waiting for the train to pass are no doubt commenting on the colorful graffiti on those locomotives either to themselves or someone else in the car
what a bunch of crap. the Borg ruins everything i grew up near the Torrance Espee depot on Border st. miss those SW1500s making the run up to us steel on plaza del amo and western av
The GP40P-2 all three were used by Southern Pacific in passenger train service between San Francisco and San Jose up until Caltrain was made.

Happy New Year’s! Keep the videos coming.👍
Thanks! You bet!

Fantastic video! 1375 has really devolved into a graffiti'd mess, but it's still very unique. I remember when it was still relatively clean!
Thanks!

Thanks!
All three former Southern Pacific units.
Great job catching the action, excellent video !

Your videos of downtown LA and area are great I live off Anaheim branch comes down the middle of the street.
Thanks!
I got a chance to ride in the Bicentennial Gp40p-2 3197 at Bayshore Roundhouse in San francisco, california, back in 1978.

Nice camera shots . Good video
Thanks!
I've driven past that lumber yard many times over the years and haven't seen a train.
Back in 2015, I saw 1373 resting at UP's North Salt Lake yard.
Old 3199 not hauling San Francisco to San Jose peninsula commuter cars is wild.

The former Southern Pacific Gp40p-2 #3199
Even the two by fours get tagged!

Very interesting, thanks and happy new year!

@@mikehawk2003 They had eleven gp9s to.
@@rickeyhall4254 Well aware, but those had long established themselves on the commutes by then.
At least they put a p3 horn back on the Gp40p-2
It still has a K3HA
Nice
Thanks!
They use it on the Anaheim Branch quite a bit
Funny how these ugliest locomotives have the best horns! Nice video 👍
Thanks!
If I was working for Union Pacific I would love to take these SD40-2 to repair shop and clean locomotives and fill up gas air and water and repaint it
Does the train still go up Torrance Blvd?
Yes

what is the name of the last customer at the end of the line near harbor sub
US Gypsum
Embarrassing locomotives. They need to be repainted. I hate graffiti !!!
graffiti is cool
its ugly
There’s no point in spending good money to give criminals a fresh canvas.

Excellent video my Friends greeting suscribete
