I want one but I'm still a bit hesitant with its longevity. Maybe I should wait for the 2nd Gen and hopefully Google will guarantee a long period of support and updates like they do with Pixel 8 phones.
"When you'll get Pixel Tablet updates. The Pixel Tablet will get updates for at least 5 years from when it first became available on the Google Store in the US." Directly from Google's site.
Just get it! You won't regret it. I have one and it's great. I also have a Galaxy Tab 8 Pro which has way better specs but I find myself using this more. Not to mention it's great for the whole family. It's buttery smooth, light and decent speakers!
@@extra4542 By "notorious" do you mean that Google literally tells you directly on their website before purchasing when the support period for a specific product will end? Cuz that's pretty normal.
Got it on launch day. It really is better than the sum of its parts. Nothing excels in it, but its amazingly functional design means I use it more than I expected for a kitchen tablet/photo display. As a kitchen tablet, it absolutely must be paired with the case that has a great stand so it can be propped anywhere to watch/read while you cook, fold laundry or eat breakfast. However, the case nerfs the fingerprint reader since it obstructs the sensor too much. Totally agree with the screen brightness bug; like so many things made by google, it feels like an ignored step child already.
"It really is better than the sum of its parts". I think that statement nails it. It's a good tablet and a decent hub that together makes it a very good product. If you have a Pixel phone (like me) it's a natural extension. I'm not a gamer, so for me the performance is very good for what I do.
@@hiranchbuff Interesting. There are a couple of things they could have done better tho. I'll wait for gen2 maybe. Also is it possible to change the launcher to someting else like on a phone?
Yeah, it's like a big Pixel phone. You can change the launcher. And this is the problem with buying tech - if you wait to buy the next generation, you'll never buy anything.
If you're considering purchasing the Pixel Tablet, I highly recommend it! The tablet is fantastic and the software experience is incredibly smooth. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and use it at work to watch movies while I work. When I'm home, I simply place it on the speaker dock. It's also docked on my nightstand, so I can consume more media content before going to bed.
I was interested in the Pixel because I want a pure Android tablet, but it seems very odd that it doesn't get updates quick. One major perk I discovered with my Apple devices is that updates are released very fast. I figured that vendors needed to play with the software to get it working on their devices, but Pixel would get first class support for updates. Odd it doesn't.
I have an Uncle in a nursing home and he has no mobility due to a stroke. I need to control UA-cam on a device remotely so I can play him videos from a remote location (my cell phone not on the same WiFi network miles away). This way he can have his favorites played while I'm not there. Any help would be good. (I just bought a Nest Hub Max today and just saw this, don't know if Hub Max will solve my dilema) Thanks!!
Big miss for the software not having ALL the nest hub features especially at a much higher price tag. This alone means it’s not automatically a better nest hub alternative. Also the fact that you can’t use it as a home hub when it’s not docked
There should be an option to switch between the two modes and it should have all the features of a nest hub. Let's hope they do a second generation that will be much better.
09:42 Must have been trying Yoga stretching for palms & fingers for someone who tries to type on tablet screens in landscape mode.. why not get a low angle case and type on screen like you type on physical keyboards..
Perfect tablet for my use case, centre of my smart home and always ready when I need it... Able to use Google RCS messaging and WhatsApp on it too so I don't always need to look for my phone if I need to message anyone...
multi user support is huge. I know why Apple doesn't support it (buy more iPads), but having the ability to set limitations per user is huge for a family.
Glad you enjoyed it! 6 Months gives us a nice amount of time to gain the proper prospective of the products we review and we do try and put a ton of effort into these videos, so we're glad it's appreciated!
Cool review. It’s really too bad they haven’t added the doorbell feature. That would prevent me from replacing my nest hubs with this, and the fact that I really just want Apple to steal this concept. Hopefully they’ll get close with standby mode next year.
Its screen was meant to be always on because of the hub feature. You do not want an OLED screen for that, just think about the burn-in issues. And 60 Hz is still a standard on most low and mid range TVs, displays, if you are not a framerate fanatic, I don't think it's a deal breaker.
@@FlyingCsongor If it's like the nest hub than you can close the screen when away and the pictures should change every minute or so. It shouldn't be an issue with modern OLED display. Goggle could eventually make 2 or 3 models of the table with one having a better screen & 120Hz display.
My newly bought Pixel Tablet is average in every area at best, in comparison to other Tablets I've owned, Lenovo , Samsung, or iPad. First; when docked on the charger, the audio doesn't become surround sound. The display is okay, except in bright daylight, or sunshine, when the display is practically unreadable! The worst aspect for myself, is the fact that my Pixel 8a phone, will not connect directly ,or via Bluetooth to my Pixel Tablet , to play music for example! I am not pleased with the Pixel Tablet. The charging dock, is absolutely useless when not used for charging!
if they put chrome os on this it would be way better....especially if they sold a backlit keyboard and pen....oh and if they used usb c on the base too
Great review but I have to say the tablet itself does not appear to excel at anything in particular except for mediocracy. It won’t even cost you more to get a better tablet from some other company.
@@LV2355 don't listen to those weirdos with nothing better to do but comment emotionally charged nonsense under someone else's comment 😂 Anyway, I appreciate your feedback bc I was looking into getting one to add to the Google/Nest ecosystem but that's a deal breaker for me too ngl. I'll just get another hub for the guest room. Thank you! 👍🏿
If it's like the previous Android tablets I had, it won't last a year or two. I've been rocking a 2017 iPad Pro and the only issue I have atm is the battery degradation. And as of right now Best Buy is selling it for $329 lol
I love my Pixel Tablet! The problem is I bought it on credit. So, in my mind, the price was relatively unimportant. However, being that I couldn't afford one outright, and given how much I use it (or have to encourage myself to use it), it's definitely not worth it for someone who hasn't already bought into the Google ecosystem.
Hey, if credit makes the price unimportant, you might need to reevaluate how you think about credit. (Hope you don't take it the wrong way, it just sounded risky)
You're probably right. I'm not totally careless, but I'm not very attentive either. I'm poor and getting financial advice isn't on the top of my bucket list. I will pay it off in time.
Anything that GOOGLE does is violence itself, in the "interest" of users. When I started working with this machine, it was still quite fast, the many "updates" (W-10) have now slowed it down to Pentium 1, after the update everything is a little worse, and the violent personalization is getting bigger and bigger, I have no problem with personalization , if I can choose the old one, but they force me to do so. I'm thinking of giving up the internet and uploading an old W-2000 so the Jews don't destroy my nervous system.
