  • This is the Bee Network crossing at A56 Dunham Road / Gorsey Lane in Altrincham heading south. I don't like the sharp left turn after crossing Devisdale Road, and then the right turn onto St Margarets Road is Horrible.

These things should never be built by people who've never sat on a bicycle, and not without input and approval of cyclists' organisations. But then, bureaucrats are handling this...

To be honest I had no idea the other day that the big white square road markings at 1:05 are called elephants footprints, there are a few in my local town, it’s nice to finally know what they’re called. 🙃

Council designed so must be good.

It’s a really bad road lay out, which once again shows how these councils haven’t got a clue to road design and safety….. I live here and you are the only cyclist I have seen using the cycle lane, it’s the same in the town , they have wasted all that money on the cycle lanes and pathetic landscaping ….which by the way looks awful….and no one uses the lanes….the money would have been better spent on fixing all the pot holes…but these councils work in pretty stupid and mysterious ways..!!!

Maybe there will be more cyclists now these changes are in place? Also you could now cycle?

I understand there’s a national drive to make life better for cyclists but the rewards and targets set by central government has led to some laughable cycle ways. In our borough we had several examples of cycle ways painted on the road with a signpost that were barely a metre or two long and are in total isolation. But collectively the county council could say to central government "We’ve achieved the targets set by providing x number of miles of cycle lanes."

Since when did most cyclists obey red traffic lights

From one study I read, cyclists and drivers run red lights at similar rates. But it did highlight an interesting find: only the first few cars approaching a red light can run that light; any other driver wanting to run the red would be blocked by the first stopped car. Bicycles can filter around stopped traffic and can go around other cars and cyclists to run a red light.
