Charles Embry, you being a bad employee is what made you absolutely outstanding human being.

He knew this was gonna come out PG&E poisoned a lot of people for decades! Eventually someone was bound to notice something was amiss and connect the dots. What they did was truly heinous they have destroyed many people's lives he kept those documents because he knew they'd be fucked if they ever fell into the wrong hands!
Also Charles knows that PG&E didn't even care about their employees enough that they didn't supply correct safety protective wear and equipment. Can you imagine the lawsuits they could have got from employees and their families who have had loved ones die. That's the only way to make large corporation's do the right thing is by making it fucking expensive for them each time when they don't do the right thing. Its easier for them to supply the correct safety and protective wear than to risk losing a fucking fortune for failing to protect your employees.

@@wickedwitchoftheeast88 $333 Million is a lot of money, even for a $28 Billion corporation like PG&E. They really screwed themselves by not protecting their employees and the people of Hinkley. It all ending up biting them in the ass.

@@jessicacampbell4142 and all because of their own greed. Greed is many people's undoing because they're always greedy for more. The only way you can get corporations like PG&E to do the right thing is to make it more expensive for them when they do the wrong thing. Personally they should have been made to double or triple of that $333 million because they ruined a lot of lives. Apparently Hinckley is a ghost town now

@@wickedwitchoftheeast88 I’ve heard that Hinkley is nothing more than a desert town. I imagine PG&E was bread and butter to the people of that town and employed many people living in that area. When a corporation like that goes under or ends up in horrible financial trouble then the whole town tends to suffer. It is pretty brutal.

  • @wickedwitchoftheeast88

I can see why Charles was picked to destroy the documents. He's clearly a quiet guy who doesn't stand out or cause any trouble and as he said they didn't tell him why they wanted those documents destroyed and he didn't ask why he just did it. His supervisors at PG&E clearly thought he was an idiot who wouldn't bother reading the documents and because he asked no questions they assumed he didn't care or wasn't interested in exactly what those documents contained. He read them without telling anyone what he discovered and he realised what PG&E had done and how wrong it was so he kept hold of them until he could hand them over to someone trustworthy who would do something about it.
I think his attempts at trying to talk to Erin previously were him trying to work out if she was someone he could talk to and trust to do something with the documents he kept. He couldn't exactly advertise what he had just in case PG&E came after him. Charles Embry really proves that old gem of a saying "its always the quiet ones you need to watch" no one even suspected he read them never mind keeping hold of very incriminating documents for god knows how long. It also shows the difference between him and Scott at the water board. Scott was sitting on information that PG&E were poisoning people and basically tried to cover for them when they told him to get Erin out of there whereas in contrast Charles realised what they were doing and knew it was wrong so he kept hold of the important stuff and helped them get PG&E by the balls.
There's also similiarities between Charles and Erin. They're both dismissed by others as though their stupid and basically trash when in fact they're intelligent and surprise people when they least expect it thats why he appraoched Erin he could see she wasn't like everyone else she had compassion and she listened to people.

Rather ironic that while he's burying his cousin, PG&E buried Charles in a mountain of paperwork and evidence exposing him to the truth surrounding his cousin's death and the poisoning of a whole town.

If you watch the film again you actually see him in several scenes. But his screen time is framed with other members of the town so he blends in. You wouldn't recognize him unless you know to look for him. Perfect example of how he was viewed by his company and how he was keeping eyes on Erin to make sure she was going all in to expose PG&E.

Poor Charles! To see a Relative being literally eaten away, from the inside out, to the point of seeing his Relative's Intestines destroyed, Tumors on his Kidneys, and nosebleeds, that would literally be soaked in blood!
Charles-the Gentleman that was thought to be an idiot.
Charles-The Gentleman that was told to shred and destroy important documents, that would prove PG & E'S negligence and guilt.
Charles-The Gentleman that refused to "play along" and get rid of the evidence that was needed, in order for Erin Brockovich and the Firm, to win that case.

And not even creepy people - we all have people who we just don't want to talk with and just don't want them talking to us. Millions of people consider her sexy, pretty, amazing, but I wouldn't want to talk to Beyonce for example - I don't find her interesting in any way, there's absolutely nothing I would like to talk about with her. Even people who millions adore and worship can be subjectively unlikable.
