mark mooroolbark not true. Shaka may have been a conqueror, but he was a unifier as well. He’s more akin to Philip II of Macedon in those respects. Both men conquered foreign lands and peoples, however they also united their people, for Philip it was the Greeks, Shaka it was the Zulus. Imperialism or Neo-Colonialism as you’re thinking of it was a distinct phenomenon of late 19th & 20th Century Europe, the only other thing close to it would be the Spanish conquest of Central America & western South America in the 16th Century. The earlier wave of colonialism in the 16th-early 19th Centuries was mainly caused by social and economic factors in Europe rather than the Nationalistic fervor and Racism that fueled Neocolonialism. Imperialism in the way Shaka did it is not unique to Europe, every continent, even Oceania, has had at least one empire form on it. Neocolonialism however is distinctly a European phenomenon.
@@charlesbrooks94 Cetowaya also massacred thousands of men , women and children to gain power just like Shaka. The only reason Shaka didn't venture overseas is because he didn't have the technology or fire power to do so. Do you think any power hungry dictator would turn their back on even more wealth and power if they had the capacity to take it? The Europeans were colonialists because they had the technology and military power required to achieve success. They were not morally inferior to or more cruel than the rulers of African countries.
@@markmooroolbark252 its funny how zulu people celebrate shaka as a unifier of nations that were able to withstand colonialism for more than 50 years with just spears but the white men & the books they wrote that over exaggerate his laws & which also falsify his cruelty goes around the world preaching false information. & yes I am a ZULU. i live in the KINgdom of kwaZulu-Natal which is now a province of south africa but still has a KING. shaka zulu was never wealth driven, you may say POWER HUNGRY yES
The European failed to tell real truth if it was not for Hyrum and his invention of machine gun African history would be different and no apartheid in South Africa. The entire shortcoming of the African nation was believing in the God of men not the God of Creation. King Leopold II Livingston and this colonial group would have never invaded without the rifle and mastery of fire arms....
"They dead like real men." No. They dead and being eaten by maggots. "Your civilisation is running now by jews and gays. " And your "civilization" is run by HIV, malaria, poverty, illiteracy, wars, and famine. But you can't even put a sentence together. Can't expect too much out of you.
The Europeans had on Zulu uniforms along with European clothing. And the Martini-Henry rifle didn't come into service until the later part of the 19th century, 1871.
Amanga wodwa there was no white people at this battle not one , Zwide was never captured he crossed the uPongola river to the north and went to his Swati relatives, he was never bombed by a British Canon.
Shaka believed that he was all powerful. Dutch settlers were no match for Shaka's large armies, so he probably initially thought that the British were no threat and would easily serve him. Once he saw that the gun was superior to the spear, he tried to form an alliance to avoid being colonized. Shaka had land to burn so giving the Brits land was a small investment in perserving Zulu hegemeny. He later saw that his efforts would do nothing so Zulus thereafter pressed up against the Brits.
Shaka was trying to unite the other tribes because he knew they couldn't defeat the Africans if all tribes were united. Shaka was trying to bring all tribes under one umbrella. The whites knew they didn't want to try Shaka. The war with the whites didn't start until after Shaka died. And the whites only won because they united. The Dutch and the British hated each other. The Boers war is the name of their conflict in today's South Africa. But they united to defeat the zulus. A lesson Africans haven't learned yet. UNITY to defeat a common enemy. Xhosa people were the first ones to fight with the whites. If the Xhosa and Zulu tribes had united , history would be different. And the Xohsa tribe alone was given them the business even though they were at a disadvantage because of weaponry. It shows you that tactics is very important in war.
Why don't you flip back one page and see what I had to say about this film a year ago? It makes Flynn look like he was sent on some secret mission, when he really was only out to seek his own fortune.
I love how Shaka was always suspicious of his British associates. Half trusting them but holding back from giving Farewel and the other British soldiers. Unfortunately Nandi's death was where his suspicious and cautious nature came unstuck which would have probably served him at precisely that moment.
"Let's Not Forget Chaka did NOT fight the whites" Chaka only fought other Blacks? Chakas nephew defeated the whites after Chakas death. Chaka praised Whites hence was his downfall.

I'm sorry but that is bullshit. Alexander and Caesar defeated all kinds of enemies while Shaka only ever fought against people of the same style of warfare. He was not the only King to ever fight with his men either. There were far more than Alexander or Caesar that fought alongside their men.
Would have been over fast if Shaka made those Europeans fight with only spears and shields .its a good thing they brought that cannon with them or they'd all be dead

History tells us that the only African nation that was not defeated by European armies is Ethiopia. And what did the Ethiopian have , that no other African army had ? Oh...I'm glad you ask. The answer ....an abundance of manpower , rifles and canons. With these weapons they crushed Italian Invaders and remained independent. The weapons were received from Russia. If other African nations had the same , its possible the result would've been the same. Nevertheless , I admire anyone , anywhere who is brave enough to defend there home at any cost. Even if their defenses are superior or inferior! I despise bullies who attack their fellow man , not to stop genocide , or protect the nations resources , but simply take...because they can.

I enjoyed the series as a kid, but as I grew older, I came to understand the europeans were not instrumental in winning this battle. King Shaka allied with other tribal warlords to defeat Zwide.
@gene15644a I know but even though he unified south Africa and spread the culture, his home rule was brutal. He should have worked on his home rule better. Shaka kept the enemy at bay but when his half brother assasinated him it is believed that his last words were that the white man will take the land. It would be better if they were a peaceful empire but it was an empire lead by a conquerer. Shaka is like the African version of Gengis Khan.
I love this scene in the series, too bad Shaka never had the chance to develop his army further into European Modern Weapons. Is alright British Zulu troops, you got better weapons, just hold the line. Funny and bitter irony for the Zulus, that is how the British broke them up for good in the end. The way the Zulus fought back then n-must have been the same way the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas did in the New World. right?. Are there any movies featuring warfare or history in the New World before Columbus arrived here with the Europeans?.
You mean how the lightning fast Zulus, despite outnumbering British forces 3.5 to 1, inflicted only 13 casualties on the British troops to the loss of their entire army of 15,000 warriors at Ulundi? The war lasted a whopping FIVE MONTHS, and the Zulu only ever won one battle. TRUE military genius is Alexander the Great and Sun Tsu that both defeated far larger armies and invented advanced strategy both in combat, logistics, and troop maneuvers, far more than Shaka's simple wave attack idea.
The mother of the chief zwide form the Ndwandes killed the king Schestwayo the good friend of Shaka, as punishment Shaka put that witch tied next to a Hyena that started to devour her alive. but a fire killed both beasts.
And where did you think ZUlus got corn from? They had already got contact and the white man and had been in africa for about 200 years by the time of SHake. SHaka is not that far back. About 170 years, and considering RSA has been around 120, that's 50 years before the formation of SOuth africa as we know it. SO it seems very likely he could have had contact.

I made similar comment, also adding powder straight from a barrel.
Just imagine if that had gone bang?
I reckon we might have had a draw
"we will cover you" 😅😅😅😂
Shaka was a military genius..
If he was white you'd call him a monstrous racist imperialist.
mark mooroolbark not true.
Incredibly talented actor
@@markmooroolbark252 its funny how zulu people celebrate shaka as a unifier of nations that were able to withstand colonialism for more than 50 years with just spears but the white men & the books they wrote that over exaggerate his laws & which also falsify his cruelty goes around the world preaching false information.

The Zulus disemboweled their dead and even their enemies so their spirits would be free to fly to the afterlife.
King Edward it wasnt. Africans should develop their own weapons
You think THAT was the deciding factor? It was only used at Ulundi and I don't see any evidence that IT was the cause of victory.
Wait, are you saying that having superior technology and tactics aids in winning wars? How insightful.
"They dead like real men."
No. They dead and being eaten by maggots.
"Your civilisation is running now by jews and gays. "
And your "civilization" is run by HIV, malaria, poverty, illiteracy, wars, and famine.

King Edward true, black powder killed us all
The Europeans had on Zulu uniforms along with European clothing. And the Martini-Henry rifle didn't come into service until the later part of the 19th century, 1871.
The English are so sneaky and shady 🙄

@@sayless7936 kodwa at the expense of our history being distorted
Did King Chaka reAlly have King Zwide killed by the Cannon ?
No
Shaka believed that he was all powerful.
EVEN THOUGH
THIS WASNT TRUE EVENTS , IT HAD GREAT MESSAGES FOR BLACK PEOPLE TO KNOW HOW WOCKED THE WHITE MAN WAS
That's right. Shaka impaled his enemies and massacred thousands but only white men are really bad.
this is my topic when I was in grade 9,i like history very much all the way from saint Charles lwanga secondary school...….
Uganda?
Why don't you flip back one page and see what I had to say about this film a year ago? It makes Flynn look like he was sent on some secret mission, when he really was only out to seek his own fortune.
I love how Shaka was always suspicious of his British associates. Half trusting them but holding back from giving Farewel and the other British soldiers. Unfortunately Nandi's death was where his suspicious and cautious nature came unstuck which would have probably served him at precisely that moment.
Shaka rocks!!! King of the Kings!
"Let's Not Forget Chaka did NOT fight the whites" Chaka only fought other Blacks? Chakas nephew defeated the whites after Chakas death. Chaka praised Whites hence was his downfall.
Which whites did chaka meet?
Which whites did he praise coz he never met any whites?
Shaka got stab in the back by his own people. And those that followed got conquered. So I don't understand your point. BUt you talking bullshit.

Napoleon was with his troops in all battles as well. However his imperial adventures lasted just 15 years :-/
napoleon was at the back of the army on his HORSE protected by thousands of soldiers...he only made sure that the dead stay dead lol difference
you know very little about history if you think that Alexander hid from fighting. Ancient Greek, Roman and Eastern Generals all fought with their men, and this is one reason many of them died in battle.

I'm sorry but that is bullshit. Alexander and Caesar defeated all kinds of enemies while Shaka only ever fought against people of the same style of warfare. He was not the only King to ever fight with his men either. There were far more than Alexander or Caesar that fought alongside their men.

Is this story supported by the true Zulu traditions. Did Shaka had to enlist the whites to defeat King Zwide?
This director was just a sardist. Stupid movie of even more stupid full surrender to nothing.
Actually the gattling gun was what allowed the British to eventually win the Zulu wars, so you are right there.
why was shaka so full of violence..is this really true?... i find it hard a man so ruthless..
Hi ma'am no disrespect intended, but did you learn african history in southern africa or are you completely new to the subject
History tells us that the only African nation that was not defeated by European armies
is Ethiopia.
To be fair, it was the Italians. If it would have been the Germans or English it would have been a different story lol.

The whites were not involved in this battle🤓, so why insert them and make it look that they were vital to the victory of the zulus.

This is a hidden truth played out in a movie...
this miniseries of Shaka Zulu is full of lies
In whose name did they fall....
Starhunter .. *Shaka was a murdering psychopath* who, today, would be tried and executed for his crimes, many of those against his own people.
How do they know which one their fighting?
they see sheilds ;if you notice the sheilds are not in the same colour ;The others are black and white and the others are red(Brown) and white
the sam way yu identify a foreigner and a local
the Zulus had no headdress so they can tell by the Ndwandwe headdress's of yellow hair
Shaka was agreat king here christ is useless
You mean how the lightning fast Zulus, despite outnumbering British forces 3.5 to 1, inflicted only 13 casualties on the British troops to the loss of their entire army of 15,000 warriors at Ulundi?
The war lasted a whopping FIVE MONTHS, and the Zulu only ever won one battle.
TRUE military genius is Alexander the Great and Sun Tsu that both defeated far larger armies and invented advanced strategy both in combat, logistics, and troop maneuvers, far more than Shaka's simple wave attack idea.
>the Zulu only ever won one battle.
Isandlwana, Intombe, and Hlobane. That's three.
0:35 is Mahina ( foreman ) from themovie " ghost and the darkness"
that is why Shaka is killed by a Lion in his next life where he was working in Tsavo helping to build the British railroad
So Shaka was helped by the whites to fight the Ndwandwe now called Amashangane.
Everyone loves Henry Cele in this series, but hates him in The Citadel... Am i missing something here?
The mother of the chief zwide form the Ndwandes killed the king Schestwayo the good friend of Shaka, as punishment Shaka put that witch tied next to a Hyena that started to devour her alive. but a fire killed both beasts.
He was suppose to be taken care off
@serberious You'll see in the end.
Shaka never met a white person this is twisted history
And where did you think ZUlus got corn from? They had already got contact and the white man and had been in africa for about 200 years by the time of SHake. SHaka is not that far back. About 170 years, and considering RSA has been around 120, that's 50 years before the formation of SOuth africa as we know it. SO it seems very likely he could have had contact.
Shake war. War of Shaka
Pour gunpowder down a just fired barrel. That's not a good idea!
