Nothing found in war but, toll of lives, tears, destructions, misery, diseases .....still human being cutting throats of each other just for interest. Oh very much sorrow
I find it vaguely amusing that in the Somme scene No Man's Land is completely green and full of grass. The Somme was a major area of fighting from 1914, and there's no way that constant shelling wouldn't have torn up all the grass and turned it into a giant mud field by the beginning of the 1916 offensive.
These ww1 movies don't get the huge budget that other movies get, even ones of the same type (ww2 and Vietnam get the most attention) so they kinda have to go with what they get. Its a shame more people aren't interested in ww1 as much as other war movies. I would love to see historically accurate films for this period.
He should have used the Somme scene from the movie "War Horse" it is a better representation of what actually happened but focuses on one soldier in particular.
The fields at the Somme were as green as a shamrock and I don't know where you are getting your information from but the Somme was a quiet sector which is one of the reasons it was chosen for the attack. Tanks were part of the plan and the ground needed to be clear of shell holes. I find it vaguely amusing that you didn't know that.
Oh I'm not done yet. In july of 1916 the fields did not turn into mud until the rainy season which as you should know is NEVER in the summer. Sorry to burst your bubble in such a rude way but when you come across as if you know what you are talking about it needs to be corrected so more people like the other 2 that responded aren't poisoned with your ignorance. not a single indian soldier has been shown in action. we still have hundreds of thousands stories about the men who went to europe to fight for England but never returned. respect for all the fallen souls.
And the Turks in the opening are using WWII production US 1903 Springfields. Likely easy to get as former Cold War US aid from the 1950s. You'd think in Turkey you'd have enough Turkish Mausers floating around for a movie studio though.
They were taught to walk to keep their footing, viewing falling as a death sentence. They were carrying so much weight in gear that it wouldn't have made much difference. Someone, I think it was the BBC, did a test where they took modern British soldiers, kitted them out in correct kit, and had them run at an MG-08 firing blanks with lasers on them, with scanners on the men to read hits. By the time they got to the MG, every man was killed 11 times over. Speed of advance would've changed nothing. The Somme would've been a horrendous bloodbath regardless

0:54 Buddy, I think you are SERIOUSLY overestimating the capacity of your weapon's range and power, pointing it at that armada of landing craft half a mile away...
Oversight on the film-makers' part. In film, the standard practice for showing visible ammunition is dummy rounds- the gun powder removed but the bullet present.
The '30s version had a quality of innocence and lost illusions that was superb, but the acting was pretty melodramatic, IMO. I thought they did a pretty good job with the '79 version and was really surprised how good a job Richard "John Boy" Thomas did as Paul.
Remember that was the game of the monarchs. And nice to know, the dear monarchs were all related to one another. While their subjects were playing this amusing game for them, the monarchs were leisurely drinking Tee, or had a delicious lunch. They banished their boredom with tennis or had their hairstyles done. Yes, the monarchs love their leisure activities, so they rewarded their subjects with a few coins, with her smiling face in it. Are there better people, than kings and their princes and princesses ? It wasn't just a beach landing, the entire campaign lasted 10 months. Allies heavily underestimated Ottoman strength with a mindset of an easy victory. Learning from their mistake, Allies in WW2 overestimated German defense of Normandy.
A really good and overlooked WW1 film i appreciate is called Beneath Hill 60. Came out in 2010. It's about Australian tunnel soldiers who spend most of their time underground trying to tunnel to the German lines to plant explosives. Its very good and detailed and claustrophobic. Any movie made about WW1 without mentioning the British army is by definition false. Period!

THIS IS AMAZING. Thank you!! This helps so much in teaching wwi
19:44 most brutal battle i´ve ever seen
Cant believe i forgot that scene, the melodrama in pashendale is a little much, but it has to be the best depiction of ww1 battles to date.
The pacific is even more intense
@@BigBodyChoji no is pacific war is Somme ._.
Yeah, I heard men even drowned in the thick mud
I like how its 1944 the date of the ttack on normandie ww2
I love how the first one on Gallipoli, the Australian officers are using German Walther p38s and the Ottoman Turks are using American 1917 enfields.. should be using Mausers..
24:06 battlefield 1 storm of steel scene
They copied everything perfectly
Yea
pure insanity which devoured millions of innocents.
The forward over the top attack at a slow walk . Complete with blowing those insane whistles to make sure the enemy troops were ready for them . Old generals living in the past were running this one . And the sad part of it all they were the ones who lived to talk about how brilliant their tactics were .
Innocents ? MEN !!!

I feel so bad for the guy at 12:05
So basically Gallipoli was like the Normandy of WWI
Yeah except it didn't work out in our favour
Nothing like Normandy.
11:13 this scene was so heavy. I can’t even imagine the emotions of being in that type of situation.
That kill is worthless knowing he would have died anyways later in the war (referring to German)

Far from their land as they made their stand
They stood strong and the legend still lives on
1918 the great war rages on
A battalion is lost in Argonne
Under fire there's nothing they can do
There's no way, they can get a message through
Suffer heavy losses as the battle carries on
Liberty division standing strong
Far from their land as they made their stand
A disregarded demand
It's surrender or die and the stakes are high
They live or they die, there's no time for goodbye
Weapon in hand, they made their stand
Still disregarding demand
They would never comply, they would rather die
Broke through the blockade, they were finally saved
Friendly fire munitions running low
The supplies, they were dropped upon their foe
1918 the war still rages on
The battalion still trapped in the Argonne
Chose not to surrender, they chose victory or defeat
Fallen brothers resting by their feet
Far from their land as they made their stand
A disregarded demand
It's surrender or die and the stakes are high
They live or they die, there's no time for goodbye
Weapon in hand, they made their stand
Still disregarding demand
They would never comply, they would rather die

Far from their land as they made their stand
A disregarded demand
It's surrender or die and the stakes are high
Live or die, who cal tell there's no goodbye
With weapon in hand, they made their stand
Still disregarding demand

But the memory of the fallen still lives on

Thanks to the camera man for his courage he continued filming and survived the war because of him we can see how horrible the situation was during the war
Nn! B;
😂😅
They missed the film Joyeux Noel set in 1914.
Weird to not show the 1930s All Quiet on the Western Front, it and A Very Long Engagement are really in a tier above the rest of these.
WWI combat would really suck. Over the top into the unknown, either death or horrible pain when wounded. These soldiers experienced hell on earth.
25:07. jesus christ he's what? 10 years old? holy shit....
I believe so, from what I know they (German army) recruited boys at the age of 12 because of their lack of man power
what name this movie?
Sir Cluelesss that was in ww2 in ww1 they recruited mans at the age of 18 and voluntary at age of 17
Jimmy Cao maybe a soldier who faked their age
Back then they wouldn't really care how old
Ottomans did it too but kids went war themselfs no one wanted it
Couldn't you start from 1914?
***** there is many and i hope you didn't pick British Empire/American movies. but that's fine
movies will be movies, but that first fight scene would've gone much slower in real life considering bolt action guns have a firing rate of 15-20 rounds per minute and revolvers had a slightly better fire rate of about 24 rounds per minute
Even "War Horse" works for 1914.
Emperor Krell The lee enfield has a cyclic rate of fire of 47 rounds per minute, and the G-95 has a rate of fire of about 40
Timothy O War Horse wouldn't work for 1914 because the Germans had Stalhelm helmets which weren't issued until 1916
Amazing and tragic history that never forget in our hole life
28:53 such a good film. The lost battalion was awesome and so well acted. 30:11 that pigeon is BOSS.. Even after being shot at multiple times little Cher-Ami makes it anyway

Buddy, I think you are SERIOUSLY overestimating the capacity of your weapon's range and power, pointing it at that armada of landing craft half a mile away...
It was more like 300 to 500 yards away which is like .2 miles lol
@@jar8808 I thought it looked a bit further myself, but either way, I'd not bother pointing a revolver at them from there, myself!
Its the thought that counts
I see dead men in this video, it's so sad that the war to end all wars didn't end nothing but just dead to these men.
1:26 That revolver is empty
Oversight on the film-makers' part. In film, the standard practice for showing visible ammunition is dummy rounds- the gun powder removed but the bullet present.

As a Turk, for some reason, I see the Gallipoli landing as the Normandy landing of the 1st World War
the 1930 version of "All Quiet on the Western Front" is much better than the 1979 one, I think. good post, though.
The '30s version had a quality of innocence and lost illusions that was superb, but the acting was pretty melodramatic, IMO. I thought they did a pretty good job with the '79 version and was really surprised how good a job Richard "John Boy" Thomas did as Paul.
KevinatorPhase1 better not say that to john boy. He Was also in the Red badge of courage

Legends says that the camera man is faster than flying bullet
Remember that was the game of the monarchs.
And nice to know, the dear monarchs were all related to one another.
While their subjects were playing this amusing game for them, the monarchs were leisurely drinking Tee, or had a delicious lunch. They banished their boredom with tennis or had their hairstyles done.
Yes, the monarchs love their leisure activities, so they rewarded their subjects with a few coins, with her smiling face in it.
Are there better people, than kings and their princes and princesses ?
Thank's a lot.
Agree!! Spasibo!!
But you know that absolute power was owned by Monarch only in Russia right ? And mainly politicians and generals wanted war ?
My great grandfather 👴 my mom grandfather 👴 saved a lot of our troops and it cost him dearly he suffered the worst than any war worst he risked his life to save our troops
But he did survive
Thank God
He was the backbone

man.... the movie with the canadians, I think its Canada, its one of the most brutal war scenes I have ever seen, in pair with Private Ryan, I am schocked
More brutal is like all the combat from the HBO mini series "The Pacific."
Benign Gamer Now that you said that, I remember. The airport battle at Peleliu or at Okinawa were insane
+Nicotavo Nick peleiu was definitely the most gruesome
Nicotavo Nick but that's just a movie. Whites hate war. They don't destroy life.
Whites = peace, love, life, happiness
Nicotavo Nick when I was young, I watched the scene from “Saving private Ryan”, the German soldier slowly pushed a knife into American soldier chest kept me having nightmare for years
I’m Australian and it was heartbreaking seeing the ANZACs rowing onto shore before being cut to shreds as soon as they left their boats.
That's a certified among us moment
I just couldn't get past that. But what soldiers! Had to edit because as I read through comments the tears were/are still on my face.

Or the cavalry charge in War Horse. That's prior to the Battle of Mons so probably August or September 1914. Well before the trenches.

Just imagine if one of these was a Michael bay movie
U r Amazing lol yeah people will be getting their limbs blown off
It would be historically accurate
Adam Cole holly shit that would be awesome
Ww2 woud be better because of more explosives and ability to do that
But ww1 is good too
So the Gallipoli campaign was basically a failed WWI version of d-day.
Yup
It wasn't just a beach landing, the entire campaign lasted 10 months.
Allies heavily underestimated Ottoman strength with a mindset of an easy victory.
Learning from their mistake, Allies in WW2 overestimated German defense of Normandy.

A really good and overlooked WW1 film i appreciate is called Beneath Hill 60. Came out in 2010. It's about Australian tunnel soldiers who spend most of their time underground trying to tunnel to the German lines to plant explosives. Its very good and detailed and claustrophobic. Just get past the scenes involving the love story which are flashbacks.
