Both started at 3 years, but Jojo 20 years before... realize... Mayer: left hand with the best Moeller in the world, elegance and genius in creating groove jungle better than a drum machine; Tony: powerful and very fine roll, gospel pushed to the highest peaks and - attention to the its early and delayed strokes in the solo's beginning 2:04 - 2:38 : fantastic!
Great video! Good upload. It is hard to believe this is how VHS looked in the 90s. I don't remember things looking this bad...

Both these guys are really good, but I like Jojo's playing a little better because he allows the music to breath a little more. He has rests in his playing. Tony, like most of these gospel chops guys tend to massively overplay and they seem to avoid any rests in their playing.
Everything from 0:20 to 1:10 from Jojo was very tasteful and musical, every hit was nearly pefectly on time, especially using dynamics and syncopation to great effect. It's groovy and dancable. Tony Royster Jr just got one setting: loud, hard, fast and extremely tense. At that time these two were on completely different levels musically. Easily prefer jojos. That said Jojo got a lot of help from Tony keeping a clear 4/4 on the bass drum, a luxury he didnt get himself.
Tony looks like he's looking for more drums to hit. Lol. JoJo wins this battle hands down.
Both are cool, but Jojo is a step or two above. Much more texture to his drumming.

I get the natural human inclination to compare who's better.But both of these guys are monsters!Jo jo's abilities and technique is simply unhuman.But Royster is no slouch and is doing some ridiculously difficult things as well.I personally thing Jo jo has him on experience and technique.But Tony holds his own.
