"It takes someone that hates money..." LOL
Best way to make a small fortune racing is to start with a big one!!
Red is the coolest dude racing period!!
"Eyecrometer" that cracks me up!
I am extremely impressed with the energy/passion Red displays in this highly competitive sport of Drag Racing. His passion has clearly earned him top notch respect from many industry leaders and very well deserved. Good luck to Red and his team ( being those folks that have a hand it helping him at all various capacities ). May you have continued success. Thanks for this video insight...Well Done
I was an intern for a guy that raced when I was in my late teens... His first words about racing... "Son... Buy yourself the best helmet you can. Then buy a good desk fan. Now... get yourself a wad of hundred dollar bills... Now, put the helmet on, turn on the fan and aim it at your face, now start ripping the hundreds up and throwing them into the fan."... dunno, still ended up racing cars. It's weird.
"Snowcross is like jumping off your garage barefoot over and over while tearing up hundred dollar bills" yep, sounds about right. Lol
I never for get when I first got into this , this old schooler looked at me and laughed and he said man u just don't know what bottomless pit u just fell into .
Great video! Really enjoyed that behind the scenes look at what it takes to run a car like that. We ran a Nova in a local heads up series for about 10 years. Car never went faster than 5.20's so it wasn't anything special. People didn't understand that it cost a minimum of $1000 to roll that car out of the garage to go racing. Sold the car 4 years ago and still have not recovered financially. Loved ever minute of it and still miss it today.
The amount of dedication to run his size of race program is incredible. Something that some people don't fully comprehend. Listen to him and you can feel the adversities that he has overcome to be standing in front of us and sharing his thoughts. Excellent video !!
Long Live LDR !!
3000+hp is a complete different tier than small tire no prep cars with 1300hp.
my 170hp Camry is wearing a turtle neck now
I dub thee captain obvious.
I hope Holley and everyone else is listening and want to support racers like this
It's great to put this into perspective. My son and I are building a car to hopefully get to the SGMP level. I've been taking him down there since he was 6 years old. Now at 17 his goal is to be in Drag Illustrated's 30 under 30. We just bought a 25.5 roller and now trying to find the right shop (people) to help come on board for this journey.
That’s awesome wish you the best of luck
Reese Brothers
where are you located ?

Uh oh! Look who I found!
To have that kind of power and have the valvetrain so close tolerance that you're kissing pistons just goes to show how ragged edge it needs to be to win in this class, WOW!
Great coverage and interview. Thanks for that.
One of the best video about racing at these back races..................Thanks
Thanks for the video Doug and Red !
Puts things into perspective.
So glad you guys made this video. This gives tremendous insight to the newcomers in this sport who have the drive these guys have.
Kids, here's a perfect analogy what it takes to truly succeed in life. 1/3 Salesman/Hustle, 1/3 technical smarts, 1/3 Hard work. Good video
Good of you to show some perspective and how it is for Red and others like him!
Badass video man. Cool to see Reds weekend and what all he goes thru with his team in a single race. We run a N/A car in a local
Sportsmen class, and people have no idea what it takes, even to run in our little class! There’s a lot to it and when you’re playing in “the bigs” there’s a lot more to it then showing up and making passes. Thanks for the awesome VLOG
Great video Doug.
Thanks!
I really enjoyed the introduction to "Red". (That was my dad's nickname too...) It's neat to get an inside look at what racing life is all about. Although my family never raced on a national level, we did race quite a bit in southern Arizona in the 50's - 70's. I don't care what kind of racing it is, circle, drag, off road, etc., racers are a dedicated (some would say addicted) bunch. Thanks for letting us meet him and get a glimpse into his operation.
awesome insight Doug thanks
Inspiring video 👍Thanks for posting.
The best video to date............. great job.
Great video, would love to see more like it
Doug u remind me of a friend who passed away in a Mustang ever since I found motion race works been watching your videos and my project is small love your videos Doug
When you said you was going to follow him I just knew that would be in another video. Thank you sir
If your radial racing to make money your sadly mistaken. You just have to love what you are doing.
That’s a excellent video thanks for sharing
Thanks for doing what you do so me and my son "5" can enjoy and build our projects.
Great video,Great info
Great video. Even a very small race week program like my car, takes around 5k a year minimum just in upkeep and fuel (car and truck). If parts break, you can add even more to that.
This is great. Thanks
Wish Australian drag racing was like this! Red is a champ!
Awesome video, good luck Red
Great video. I met you at cordova last year. Was there with Matt bell, Chuck, and the boys.
The car is beautiful, love a nova
Great video!!
this is why i like bracket racing
I really enjoyed that it was done
#1 driver/builder/owner for sure
Awesome informative video
Doug, you are amazing.
Thank you for sharing the story of another fantastic petrol head and racer.
I so appreciate your videos.
Keep on keeping on❣️
Impressive! Hats off to both Red and Doug! Don’t ever give up, quitters never win! Always be a Winner!
Ultimate dedicated. Ultimate friends .
It’s Red! He was very entertaining.
Truck pulling and winning $300 is 10x worse haha! Good video
That car is amazingly sick!!! Under the hood is show quality mirror polished!!!💪💪
Red is a freaking legend! Thanks for the vid.
Awesome video. Awesome people. Awesome car.
If only people knew the passion. And heartaches it takes. Thanks.. at any level cominmet.
When he crossed the $1M mark he stopped counting.
Great vid. I found a way to stock up for my blown alcohol car - I parked it. I really caught up when I sold it!
When a crank lasts 1200 runs over 10yrs, you know it was made and spec'd correctly. That's amazing.
Saw stickers on a ton of cars down there representing you guys.
Guy is so down to earth
Great video
I ran my own business and drag raced for a long, long time the sacrifices, commitment, hour's upon hour's of work missed family time, MONEY and finatical determination required to hopefully achieve any degree of success, (unless you've been there) is impossible to convey. Congrats on a job really well done helping interested viewers get some insight behind the scenes.
Buddy of ours youst to run RVW but had a bad crash few years back, Frank Soldridge. Frank tripped the finish line once with a 200mph wheelie. But those classes have gotten outrageously FAST & EXPENSIVE. Another buddy of ours runs the 235 class Martin Conley, he lives bout an hour from me here and hast 2 bad ass Mustangs he runs down there and the COST is RIDICULOUS💯 Great content👍
jamie muncy- How is Frank doing these days? Whatever happened to the "Shadow" he was building?
@@thomass8362 Frank had a little Speed shook hip over around Allen Co. Kentucky but he was looking to sell it here a while back, idk if he did I haven’t been able to go over much with this Covid. He got married a couple years back too.
Thanks for sharing..
very cool video
That's insane! I get the passion and love of racing but damn. Here I though my go cart buddies were crazy. $3k for a good cart not counting the extras and passes and the travel expenses to race for $50-$100. Yeah I know there are cart races that are several thousand to win but that's a whole northern level just like LDR.
Red is a real dude... fantastic video, it made alot of sense of alot of shit. This is free education 100% RESPECT.
Man that guy is one bad okay dude and car I've watched that thing goto the moon thanks buddy
This is a really good channel
i just run bracket races but i had times where i run saturday and was on my way to summit racing sunday needing something
I’m running mid 9’s in the 1/4 mile on a 150 shot with a iron headed Cleveland. I’ve got less than $12K in my whole car. I did 99% of the work on my mustang except for the transmission and balancing the rotating assembly. I’m happy where I’m at with the car. I’m within my racing budget. VP 95 race fuel $7.00 a gallon.
That great not everybodys happy with 9s. I know im not i need at least 8s now
Red must be 100% absolutely related to Larry McReynolds
He MUST join Larry Mac on the Freedom 500 broadcast
This was motivational and depressing at the same. Kinda let's you know to race the class you can afford.
Like spectator? Maybe save up for a hot dog from time to time? 🤣
@@yarrdayarrdayarrda I was gona say a wagon or bicycle race but spectator is probably more accurate lol
Yup. I race sportsman class at my home track bracket racing. Its affordable and fun.
@@SixStringRacer For those with the funds, Class racing, for the rest of us, brackets. (Pro/No Box for me, and high 9's/low 10's makes me happy)
Are you looking for a sponsorship? I am looking to sponsor 3 spectators for this current season.
all kinds of extra start adding up from the very beginning.racing itself costs money.in finland where i used to race just the track fees were significant.in a good prepped track you could pay up to 250$ per run.license fee, transport cost etc.it s very frustrating taking a 60 000$ car to a track with no traction.i knew a racing buddy who drove in my class with 55 pro street chevy with 1080 hp pro stock style reher morrison(477 chevy bb).i raced a 64 malibu big tire with 468 chevy bb with 8-71 and we never raced because he couldn t get down the track.he ran a 8.7 on properly prepped track.
If you can't afford to do it yourself ,you have 3 options .
#1 Build your income. What can you do to get the money ,e.g. a business, product or service that you can sell.
#2 Join a team . Be a part of it. You aren't in the driver's seat , but you can crew or help & enjoy the sport without the financial drain of paying for everything (I love rallying & I serviced , navigated & had been a official until I was in my 50's before I could afford to do it myself ).
#3 Just walk away from it and do something that you can afford.
That guy is awesome
That's the thing now days with parts being so slow you almost have to have a spare set of rods, pistons, heads just kicking around so you you break anything you will have the part available the days of overnighting a set of pistons or lot's of other parts are gone for a while. A friend of mine he had to wait 5 and a half almost 6 months for a set of pistons. They were custom pistons for a stroker engine but still 6 months that is just crazy. but today you got to have parts on hand if your into racing or you can be on the sidelines or getting a whole new complete engine to use because the wait times for parts are not like they were thanks to covid and oversea's parts manufacturing
Please show us the races and behind the scenes if you can.
If you close your eyes and listen to Red talk, you’d swear that was Larry McReynolds talking. 🤷♂️ Sweet ride 👍
For sure, good call.
WPC metal treament should help with your valve train reliability.
Wow = l wasn't going to watch this - Ouch This is a way tuffer on the wallet and on the keep going ism then l ever imagined = This guy is unbelievable = His determination to his sport is Amazing = My Fantasy of racing a well Equipped Car is over = And lm Convinced it will not be back = THANKYOU Very Much for all that you Covered with RED = THANK YOU RED FOR YOUR TIME TO SHOW US ALL WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A REAL COMPETITOR = GREAT JOB GUYS
“Having someone helping that you can count on, Cody drove our pit car 16 hours”. Now that’s commitment! 3,500 hp car in the trailer and you gotta drive a Prius 1,000 miles 😂😂😂
If you hate money, your hobbies are probably guns or racing
It’s hard not to feel romantic about this sport hearing Red talk
AND YOU GET PEOPLE COMPLAINT ABOUT TICKET. GOOD LUCK AND THANKS
I'm gonna say it to straighten a valve and run it scares the hell out of me 👀👍🏁
I know the "no guys no glory" montra but beating on a valve with a hammer (brass or not) seems like it could cost you much more in the long run.
Nooooo freaking doubt!!!!!! Had I tried something like that that sucker would have dropped as soon as I fired it up. 🤯🤯👊👊🤙🤙✌✌
It's beautiful and bad for sure thanks guys good night later
Yeah there are many people that think the sponsors give the racers everything and they get free turbo's free engines but they don't understand it don't work that way just because a company is their sponsor they just don't open their parts supply and say help yourself
that comment is 1000% correct!! you go home clean it all up, change oil etc. chk all bolts, torq specs, go to track and beat the shit to hell and yourself.... then go back home
REPEAT! racing turns a life span... into a blurrr. and im not trying to be funny.
Great vid Doug. Next year, is the Motion Nova getting a big block and 3500HP? 😛
Haha not that chassis!
@@MotionRaceworksOfficial - Hey, congrats on the recent low 7’s at Bradenton!
Long story short, A LOT!
Time to start saving
How'd I know you would be in here. Double these costs for Pro 275 FYI...
It definitely is an addiction.
@@StreetCarJoe nah it’s real similar at this point
Is that the "looks gooder than a goddamn!" Dude?
Want to make a million dollars drag racing????? Start with 2 Million..........
So depressing that I can't do even the lowest level of racing. I can still enjoy touring thru the twisties in my car tho.
Support 🇺🇲👍
Maybe it's because I've spent so much on a street car, but this is actually a lot cheaper than I thought it would be
On top of a $250k car. Red is correct, if you are someone that likes having money in your bank account, drag racing at this level is not for you.
Once upon a time he traded a jet boat for this right?
I’ve been into cars since the 70s and I’ve never seen someone hit valves with a hammer.......I’ve never seen Bigfoot but I have seen Florida man.😂🧐
Ware dose this kind of money come from, not hating just wondering
The real question is what the hell does he do for a living to be able to afford this?
Yeah, where can you work where you can take off a week a month to go racing?
Professional Auto Care, owner/partner.
Figure it takes $100-300k to build a car.
Engines are $50-100k
Transmission: $15-25k
Convertor: $5000
Turbos: $3-5k a piece
Running it per weekend: $3-5k
So, he stopped counting after the first million.
If you have to ask, you don't have enough...of your sponsor's money, so ask for more.
