I'm quite a new rider and i almost lost my rear wheel out from under me on a rut cause a 110 is squirrely for someone my size. And i somehow managed to save myself from crashing without thinking about it. It basically tipped me completely sideways, and then i somehow manage to correct myself. I hope this season i can get more experience from watching these videos considering i upgraded to a 125
@@EMan-ml8er if you grip the bike with the knees and let it move underneath you you will be fine just let your body control the bike naturally dont try to man handle it of your body position is correct most small mistakes that people would crash on you will be able to save it...AJ has some great videos for entry level riders like yourself that will helpyou alot with the basic fundamentals...go check his channel out and see if you find something that will help you good luck! American practice tracks look absolutely insane fun so straight away distance before most of your jumps and nice wide open tracks. I appreciate the tighter tracks we have in the UK for skill building but So jealous of how fun they look

These videos are awesome Aj. I live in OR, do lots of trail riding, and haven't had a bike that transfers to track riding too much (2000 Husqvarna WR360). Currently trying to sell it for a bike that is comfortable in both. What do you think of a 150xc or 250fx? Also, I'm learning a lot from you so thank you. Perhaps for future content after the private lessons you can look into some basic bike maintenance or trail specific tips and tricks. The private lessons are too good to stop doing though!
Daniel Livingston a lot of people struggle with that. Shift position is important. I run mine just about level with the top of the footpeg. Honesty it’s not often that I shift while standing down a straight away. More often than not I’m getting my upshift while I’m still sitting while exiting the turn, or I’m getting up shifts in the air over over jumps
I have the privilege of having a small circle track at my house. I did laps where I was only standing and forced myself to shift while standing. Even after an our or two of this I felt much more comfortable. Hope this helps!
Aj I noticed a turn you hit with major confidence @ 14:56. Coming in hot to a right turn; are you at your slowest point braking before the turn or do you count on the rut to slow you down a bit more before you clutch out of the hole? Front brake/shifting down a no go? since the right foot is up early in the turn and off the back brake I’m curious how you attack these. Thanks
I noticed James does something I’m bad for, he doesn’t commit to entering the rut/berm like you do. I do the same, I enter the corner on flat ground inside of the rut and let the bike move into the line before exit. I don’t know why but I feel if I hit the line coming into the corner I’m going to high side and go out of the line. Is that caused by not turning/leaning the bike early enough? Like I’m waiting to get into the line before really commuting to changing direction? I will be looking for you to come to NC, you are one of few pros who can explain and evaluate proper Riding technique.

Idk if you will get this but by gripping with your knees, do you mean like fully so you can baisicly hold on with your legs or like enough that your hands can hold on and be fairly stable?

Aj is it possible that I’m getting kicked because my sag is too stiff? (95-100mm) Or does the rebound effect mostly how fast the rear unloads when seat bouncing
Dante unless your bike setup is ridiculously far off it shouldn’t be enough to really kick you that much. I would always try and work on body position/technique rather than making a bunch of random clicker adjustments on bike
You should find a way to invent some sort of elastic work out band that goes around your thights to keep students from breaking knee contact with the bike. Also 8lbs ankle weights will deter students from wanting to take there feet off the pegs. Also come next lesson keeping that leg high and tight will seem like a breeze. Haha jus a dumb idea.
ballou1777 good question. You shouldn’t try to stand at all. Let the natural momentum from the bike compressing & rebounding pop your butt off the seat
Hey man! I appreciated the reply on the other video and I liked the description you gave here with holding on with your knees yet still letting the bike lean underneath you. That's something I was doing wrong, and your description of 'letting the bike move by having mobile hips' instead of loose knees makes sense. Now, it took me like 2 weeks to catch a clip of someone doing that, cause for sure, in almost all situations they are holding on with their knees. But that's what I was thinking of when I made that comment.
👍🏼 Guys doing hard enduros like that would definitely be the exception, because they are riding over some terrain that dirt bikes aren’t even meant to go over.

Bubba good question. I would say older people usually listen better, but a lot of times have 20+ years of bad habits. Younger guys are sometimes guilty of trying to impress me by going fast. But I will say, in a 1-on-1 setting almost everyone I’ve worked with has listened/engaged/attempted what I tell them to try
I like how aj gets geared up an uses the students bike to demonstrate how to do it, it proves alot when he dose that!
And I love when a student says it’s not possible on their bike when I tell them to do something 😬 I’ve never been proven wrong when it comes to that!

I think the 150 is a great bike, assuming you don’t weight over 200 pounds then it might be too slow.
Man the thing that I just cant seem to get is shifting while standing. If you ever get time to throw some tips in about that, that would be awesome!

I almost crashed Sunday on that jump carving the jump and not being straight with the jump and ended up kicking me sideways
