practice practice practice, it sounds so clishe (forgive my spelling ) but it absolutely makes a difference. Seat time is seat time but go in wit ha game plan on what you want to practice and don't get caught up in what everyone else is doing on the track, if you do you will always get frustrated, stay positive and i promise, it will come. I have made some much improvement from AJ's videos.

the first thing that should have been mentioned when he said he's not getting the same lift as other riders is the importance to setting the sag of your bike correctly, having too much sag won't allow the bike to preload because it's already compressed and therefore won't uncompress and give the bike the pop off the face.

I'm an old guy (55) and just getting back on my 2000 yz250. I can get all kinds of squirrelly in the corners, WOT and I'm fine but as soon as I hit a face, my fear goes through the roof. This video was EXTREMELY helpful in helping me figure out why I'm having a tough time feeling comfortable at the lip because I'm doing many of the same things as this guy. If he can do it, so can I. It always makes me feel like a noob when sit back i let the bike come up to me and then get my arms straight feeling like I'm going to Ronnie mac a jump. The whole pre loading speach made it relatable even though I'm just listening and not riding my bike at the moment and feeling it. It really makes a difference being confident and sticking your face out there and pushing through the air. I rode bulls for 20+ years and the same mechanics are used to get it over the front of a bull. You make a good coach bro.

It's great getting to hear the back and forth between teacher and student, there's a lot of gold in the back and forth. Personally, on the gaining confidence tip, I find that in a section like the one you guys are working on right here, if I can down-side the first jump clean it builds my confidence 10 fold as I head towards the next jump... especially when the 2nd jump is bigger. I'm stoked you guys brought up jump face line choice, I'm always searching for the smoothest line where the face isn't battered, it's a safety mechanism for me. Keeps me safe yet I'm concerned it increases my lap times.. big time. Great vids, keep up the great work. Hyped on the insight.

A really useful tip especially for hitting jumps with lips that are all messed up or rutted is to attack the lip while accelerating on take off. On a bigger jump with a sketchy lip I try to hit it in a high gear while accelerating slightly leaning forward trying to pull the front wheel up off the lip. Basically I just made sure the bike's front end is going up off the lip and then tap the back brake in the air to bring it back down. These tips are great but they do change when you hit jumps with lips that are all jacked up. AJ you should do a video on how to hit rutted or chopped up sketch jumps.

I was known for years as the super wheelie king, but not in a good way. I rode a CR250 and would always blip my throttle at the top of the ramp. There was a 60’ table right out of a corner that I couldn’t clear. One day just before dark(mesquite’s arrival time) I was bound and determined to clear it. I new what my problem was, I’d come around the corner ok, but I’d let the throttle off at the start or middle of the big ramp then back on at the top. After about the 50th time in a row. I looked at my hand and said “if you don’t stay pinned I’m going to cut you off.” 😮 to my surprise that actually worked.

Awesome. You fixed him quick. Debating if I am fixable!!! Lol. That 2nd gap is big. Vids don’t ever do it justice.

From Downhill I get that done 10 years ago by doing „tricks“ in the air... starting by concentrating on twisting the tire a little bit.
    Try that guys

That guy reminds of myself when I started racing. I had picked up so many bad habits from trail riding that it was hard to change. I took some lessons but if you don't have confidence in jumping than it takes forever to correct. I have some fear of not having my 2 wheels on the ground. I'd get blown away on jumps but I'd have to go wide open the rest of the track just to keep up with the other riders.

Gotta get rid of the neck brace for good body position. Appreciate AJ posting this stuff. Helps the young riders, like my son.

Lol, you had us cheering with you as he progressed! This is an issue I have had, going full fainting goat with the arms and legs. Now I can see what was causing it and work on it the next time I ride.

I have ridden dirt bikes since i was five. im 49 now and have bought brand new motorcross bikes thinking i would get it but never had the nerve to send it. jumps always scared me to death. 60ft maybe. am i too old now to give it a go again or is it all fear. them maniacs over in australia are ridiculous with a double shot of how far can it be sent!!!! I havent followed you but a couple weeks but i like your approach!!! keep em comin.

Awesome video. I have a lot of the same issues and now have a starting point to work on them. Confidence still a BIG problem for me, but I think the poor technique driving the poor result just makes it harder. Really enjoying your vids!
