I honestly feel this is the best of the bantamp series tone wise. The Zombie I honestly feel doesn’t hit the point I love in a great amp. I really hope they make a mark 2! Everybody comment on Joyos vids to make a Meteor 2!!! Fantastic review! I’m waiting for a mark 2 just for the foot switch!
The Dual Rectifier isnt a very good sounding amp, either. Most high gain amps don't really do anything well, but gain. Much better off with a mid-gain good sounding amp and a good distortion or OD pedal to push it around.
Joyo takes an AC welder and puts an amp in instead, now it has sound hotter than a welding arc. I liked the middle of the road potential of the meteOR. On the top end of clean, and can be pushed all the way with some extra gain and drive. So I got a Meteor, a Nux MG-30, MXR-SBADP, and MXR Smart Gate, going through a Vox 112" 70w Celestion V. Awesome review BTW. Thanks.
Thanks for this great demo. Lots of the other demos didn't really show the clean channel very well. The official JOYO demo doesn't even go into the clean channel at all. This is kind of what I was hoping to see, and I appreciate the sound quality, too. Well done. I was originally interested in the BlueJay, but this has more versatility, and I really like the sounds you show here.
The Jupiter is my favorite fuzz and I’m so happy that the Meteor takes it really well. I have a Meteor on the way and I’m super excited about it now. :)
SeanPierceJohnson Are you using a load box like Torpedo? I haven't been able to go past 9 o clock on the volume since these amps are incredibly loud. And i too am using a 16 ohm V30. How are you able to get the volume up so high? Also would be good to know what pickupls you have in the LP?
V Ve no Torpedo...can’t afford one of those. I don’t find these to be incredibly loud amps, I’ve always felt I had to crank them. The pickups in my LP are Seymour Duncan: JB and Jazz.
I'm torn between this and the orange micro dark for doomy sound. I have a lot of dirt I run big muff. Fz2 hyper fuzz. Fuzz face. Wonder if I need the dark.
@@gri7 hey man, I'm literally in the same boat as you, looking at something to tide me over for home writing/recording until pick up an or15. So just wondering if you pulled the trigger on this or anything else, and if so how you finding it?
Sean, thanks for explaining how to tell what the amp is modeled after. I had no idea you could look at how they write the name Zombie with the MB highlighted meaning is sounds like a Mesa Boogie or the Atomic with the AC highlighted meaning Vox AC30.
I still have an iPod (the little video screen one, 32G I think), the last one they made before the iPhone came out. It's still chugging along, broke screen & all. I'm torn between this and the Bluejay. I like to use Fuzz, Muffs, as well as Overdrive - I reckon the Meteor might be the way to go for my small, portable DI rig (I'd run it into an IR loader)or into my 8ohn 112 for some jammin' It handled the Jupiter pretty well!
@@SeanPierceJohnson The answer is no, you don’t need a speaker plugged into these Joyo Mini amps. As they all have a “class D solid state power amp.” Only need a load for all tube/valve power-sections.
Sounds amazing! I'm really torn between Zombie and Meteor. Seems like the Meteor is more classic and warm sounding with a bit less gain, sort of 80s metal, while the Zombie has more gain and is really full-on metal. I like bands like Mastodon, Lamb of God, Tremonti, Gojira and Intervals. I understand they use very different amps, but which of these two Joyos would be good for a bit of everything: Meteor with an overdrive and/or distortion pedal, or Zombie as is or maybe with an overdrive to tighten it?
Lennart N based on Tremonti and L.O.G. I’d say go for the Zombie since both bands use some form of Mesa. The Meteor has plenty of gain to get the higher gain sounds but it’s not as tight as a Mesa would be. I haven’t played the Zombie so I can’t speak to its merit.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I don't know if it makes any sense but I guess I'm leaning towards the Zombie because it has more gain than I probably need. I'm not sure I like the idea of having to crank the Meteor's gain all the time to get the sound I like best. Goes without saying that a demo of the Zombie would be great to see/hear!
I hear some high mid fizz that would be removed by the insufferable mid plugin or an eq pedal in the loop on the drive Chanel I’ve got a used one coming tomorrow so looking forward to giving it a go. My main intention is to use it as a valve pre amp to go into my audient evo interface to warm up the di
Already thinking about getting the Zombie, but I also love that Orange sound, and you got an awesome tone out of this Meteor! So I’ll be thinking of getting this also thx! Want more tone shaping? Throw an eq pedal in the loop!!!
Hello. Can the BantAmp be used without connection to the speaker output and without connection to the headphone output AT THE SAME TIME!, without harming the amplifier? Would the amplifier suffer some kind of damage at the moment or in the long run? I want to output the signal through the amplifier send to an audio interface to record the signal without cabinet emulation so that I can use my custom impulse responses, and at the same time I don't want to have headphones and/or speakers connected for a while, can this be done without damaging the amplifier? Thank you
It shouldn't. That's the advantage of hybrids; you get the tone and response of a glass preamp, with the reliability, stability and ease of a solid state power amp. Think of it as a solid state amp, with one of those tube overdrive pedals in the front of it.
Hi Adam! Thanks for watching and your kind words. You'll be like me, so you won't experience anything negative. You'll just get a drop in overall wattage on the amp but it shouldn't effect the overall tone. Have at it and have fun!
I think it sounds way better than the micro orange amps even like it more than the or which is currently on sale and their cheapest all tube amp at 800 CAN$
well the big difference between this and the OR15 is that the OR is all tube. this has a solid state power amp. both are solid amps to be sure, but it you need to save cash the Joyo Bantamps are hard to beat.
SeanPierceJohnson I can afford the or15 but just honestly feel the bass response of orange amps are to floppy for high gain not definition. The or15 sounds better overall but I believe this bantamp would do better metal than the micro at the very least. Will check it out when I go to buy my amp head. Hopefully I get my peavey xxl and blackstar id15tvp sold by boxing day sigh people are looking at the Blackstar as if it was a pos first act amp...
I am thinking about getting one of these along with a new speaker for a cabinet I have. I am planning on a Celestion creamback 75watt. Do you recommend the 8 ohm since that is what the Joyo prefers?
Hey Todd! That's actually one of my songs! It's called "Fine Line" and can be found on my band's second EP. You can download the record on our website if you'd like: cockeyedoptimist.net/rock-n-roll-merch/all-that-you-were-ep-mp3-download Thanks for watching!
I have trouble deciding whether or not to put my pedals in the effects loop or into the front. I use all the standard effects: overdrive, fuzz, reverb, EQ, delay, a wah-way, and I have some wired modulation thing I don’t fully understand that has a knob called “feedback”. Anyway, how do you decide about the effects loop for all or some of these effects?
My guess is the feedback knob pedal is a Flanger...but anyways. Pedal placement doesn't have rules, just guidelines. Generally, time based pedals like Delay & Reverb are placed into the effects loop. Some guys love modulation in the loop, like Chorus & Flanger. Drives like Boost, OD, Distortion, & Fuzz are best into the front end of the amp. They react well into, and are designed to do so, your amp's preamp. Compressors and wah are also best RIGHT AFTER the guitar. But like I said, there are no RULES...just guidelines so any of these placements can be experimented with and changed to suit the sound you are after.
great vid n' amp.. but just one doubt.. if I wanna play through the headphones is it necessary to plug the amp into a cab ?? or Can I play just through the headphones connected into the amp??..I'll appreciate someone replies me..t-you..=)
hey man! I would just keep it plugged into a speaker for the sake of safety and not killing the amplifier. in honesty, i don't use the headphone output
There was a video out a while ago where a guy replaced the channel switch with a footswitchable relay style Jack and it worked well to switch channels. Only downside is it can only be switched via footswitch.
great vid n' great amp as well .. but just one doubt ..does this METEOR sound like a tube amp or just like another transistor amp??..I'll appreciatte someone replies me .. t-you =)
elmero mero well I think it sounds good and that’s all that matters. There are tube amps that sound great and transistor amps that sound great. And bad amps are the same as well. Does this sound as good as my big, full, 100 watt Orange? Of course not. But it feels better than most hybrid amps it’s size. It’s a lot of fun!
Chris Carter I’d say the Jackman as that one is specifically meant to go for a Marshall Tone. Even though it’s a JCM type sound it’ll be closer than the Meteor
Hey Andre, DON'T do that. You need to have a speaker load for the amp! Not having proper loading can damage the amp. Even though it is a solid state power amp, you can still damage it.
SeanPierceJohnson Actually this is not true - not only can you do it safely, but the headphone output has cab sim built in and is intended for direct recording if desired :)
I'm torn between this and the Zombie. I think since they're so cheap I'm going to get the Zombie for the drive and clean channel and get an A/B splitter and a Micro Dark for the Orange tone.
hi good vid.. but just one question .. I love this amp but it has a 12AX7 tube inside and could I replace it with a GROOVETUBE ECC83 with no problem at all?? I don't wanna spoil my amp.. well I'll appreciate someone reply me.. t-you =)
12ax7s and ECC83s are the same tube...just different designations based on geography. 12ax7 is used more in the Americas while ECC83 is a European classification...but they serve the same function.
I've never found an effects loop to improve the sound of any effect, ever. Instead of an effects loop with dubious functionality, how about a footswitchable channel select which I doubt anyone would find useless?
Great playing. Great sound. Great demo.
Thanks!
