I'd also be super interested in seeing a Lufia II Item Only Run specifically for the Ancient Cave. I can't imagine it would be fun at all for you, as it would effectively be a "Don't get into battle" challenge, but it should be "possible" in the most technical sense of the word
Happy New Year, my dude! Thanks for this banger of a vid! Always love your item-only challenge runs, even for games I don't even know about (this one being one of them).
He'll yea man great game for this kind of run. Hope you do the second game too. Lucia 2 is also basically 2 games in one the main game and a special dungeon after that that is a rougelike with a ton of floors. That'd be crazy to try (if possible) but if not there's always the main game.
Being able re buy everything you sold during the early game is really cool. A lot of games would benefit from that. It definitely would have made getting that one achievement in Final Fantasy XIII way easier and also you know, no longer missable.
We already know the answer for the sequel since that’s that game’s speedrun route. Yes, it’s corrupting the game’s memory at the very start as soon as the player gains control to trigger the ending, but it does it with items so it counts.
The walk speed would be totally fine if they didn't double it in towns. They just tease you. "You could have this, but you don't." everything else except the encounter rate is fine, battles are snappy as hell, could use a little less pointless backtracking, but overall, it fared decently well.
@@Caspicum You should have used the Freelufia hack which doubles walking speed, allows you to play the less grindy Newgame+ by default and adds back features from the Japanese release.

Outside of the GBA and DS games, each of the Lufia games gives you a ton of items to work with. The introduction of IP abilities does have the unfortunate side effect of sidelining their importance, though. The third game even rewards you farming Hi Bombs on the first dungeon with the ability to win an otherwise unwinnable boss fight and an amazing defensive item. Lufia II and The Legend Returns both feature a New Game+ mode that quadruples the EXP gained, so if you want a more feasible way to do runs of those games, grabbing save files online that already finished the game once isn't a bad idea.
Lufia 2 using Inner Powers only is incoming, I just know it. Another Casp banger, even if it took me 2 days to sit down to watch! IP attacks are freakin' hilarious. Do they count as item uses though? Hmm.
This made me realised how little I remembered from Lufia 1 😅 really good run, surprised that Daos beat you in the end. Let's hope you decide to take Lufia 2 at some point, the superior title ✌🏼
Given how so many pieces of gear in Lufia 2 have special effects, that would be a very interesting run. Especially when you'd need to start strategizing about which skills are economically worthwhile, and which ones don't quite cut it because of how long you need to stall with healing items to accumulate the necessary IP to use.
Hey. Beat both bosses with items only. I used EX Bombs mostly while recovering paralysis as needed. If your speed is high enough, you will outdamage him, and he will constantly heal. The final boss is easier. You should give it another shot. I bet you can do it.
Gades is pronounced like Hades. Also, should have saved that power potion for the mages. Mages are frail in most games but in these 2 games they are flood-drenched tissue paper.
Yeah thats how I pronounced it as a kid when I first played it. On the DS remake of Lufia 2 the voice actor for him pronounced the name as Godess, but with a shorter s sound. I wonder if that one is more correct or if localization just changed things.
Considering how much of a wasted turn it is for Daos to cast Stronger to heal himself on a standard run when you can easily hit him for double the damage that he heals with a single attack, it feels almost like the developers only gave him that spell specifically to thwart this attempt 30 years in advance. Even if you did beat him though, I can't imagine Guard Daos going very smoothly. That boss can be legitimately tough even fighting him normally.
Shame there's no 'bottle of acid' item in this game. I took your advice about throwing items at real people and threw this the acid at my boss and it straight up one shot him. Honestly the special effects that came with it were amazing. You easily would have beat the game with a few acids.
