It’s a little odd for Tokugawa to have a tourism bonus for a guy who wants to be super isolationist, but otherwise I like these bonuses
If you think about it at some point the isolationism just _had_ to end. Same goes here in-game, once the world modernizes it's either go with the rest of the world or stay behind. Also in real life, isolated countries like North Korea mostly welcome tourists by plane.
That's a reference to how the Japan of today still preserves the cities of old and gets a lot of turism from that. You can see that a part of Kyoto is practically frozen in time, as the streets look almost the same as a few centuries ago. That ability is a reflection on how Japanese Isolation helped the preservation of old culture.

OK, so Suleiman basically works on a two-phase system. In a Golden/Heroic Age, he's better at progressing technology and culture. Outside a Golden/Heroic Age, his focus shifts to conquest.
Tokugawa is an isolationist, building defences and benefiting greatly from domestic trade routes.
Nader Shah focuses on conquering cities, then using them with domestic trade routes.
I like that the domestic trade routes get a bit of attention this time around.
Without Ibrahim and his janissaries Suleyman is very underwhelming and makes no fun anymore.
@@redfella1527 Well looking at the designs, it looks like an interesting take on the Persona Pack: We're dealing with a younger Suleiman vs an older one.
Ibrahim worked for Suleiman early on in his reign, but eventually grew arrogant enough that, behind Suleiman's back, Ibrahim was acting as if he was the one in charge. As a result, Suleiman had him executed 13 years into his 45 year reign.
@@TrueZero2 and what is the point about the janissaries? They have fought much longer than Suleiman lived and are the main reason the Ottomans are one of the strongest Civs.
To conquer foreign cities and train janissaries within 5 turns meant a lot of fun. What's the point of a great domination civ that has no unique land unit anymore? The barbary corsair is rubbish if your opponents decide to not settle coastly and the AI loves to avoid the coast.
Yeah I always enjoyed how much people in multiplayer underestimated the advantage of strong domestic trade routes. I won a game against my group because I was using china I was in the center (everyone was trading with me) and all my trade routes were domestic so when I declared war they all lost a considerable amount of money I lost some but enough to still to support my war efforts.
@@redfella1527 Yeah, this is the one I very dislike from this updates, also pity that they won't give Nader Sah any UU for Persia at all despite him being infamous warlord that reform the Islamic Persian Empire's military into better state than ever that enabling him to fight toe to toe against Ottoman and Russia despite early internal strife and civil wars, maybe like special field artillery or the Turko-Mongol cavalry, same with Tokugawa by introducing UU like Ashigaru as gunpowder age replacement of the Samurai.

If you look up the channel that posts the most Civ VI OSTs on UA-cam, the Ottoman atomic theme is the most popular out of all Civ themes posted for a good reason

I was thinking how in 5 Darius was darker skinned despite being Persian and how Nader shaw is as fair as Suleiman is in that game, idk the details about the skin tone in those religions well, but Turks are fair skinned, no? Same with Persians/Iranians.
@@Hollow_Theorist I'm literally Turkish and i am more white than you man. Yeah there are darker people in mostly the eastern regions of Türkiye but Ottoman dynasty doesn't have Kurdish, Arabic etc. roots to have that much dark skin tone.

There seemt to be general mismatch between gameplay designers and marketing team for the leaders packs.
They are all excellent for conquering except for Tokugawa. But boy are those juicy bonuses for Persia and the Ottomans strong.
Well, they are negotiators and conquerors because of history, not because of gameplay.

@@redfella1527 No not really. Janissaries can give you a boost for a couple of rounds, but the Ottomans got boosts towards every age now. If they had janissaries and these boosts they would be too op. But that's just my opinion.

Tokugawa seems like a isolationist culture leader not a war one. Nader shah I feel is more fitting for Persia than Cyrus. Suleiman makes ages more extreme. if your in a golden age no one can really threaten because the loyalty buff and if you’re not you can attack strong civs and weaken them
You must not understand the military power of guaranteed 100% loyalty against early neighbors.
Tokugawa is early game city-state rush war, that rolls into culture late game.
You can't trade with civs you're at war with though
They have to mention that he is a military strategist bc he was truly the GOAT at the time of his reign. His exploits are the basis for the Samurai Warrior games by Koei. I don't think they are saying it to relate to his ability.
How is Nader more fitting for Persia than Cyrus? Cyrus literally founded the first Persian empire
Why did you guys changed the Suleiman's skin tone? He wasn't black, neither any Ottoman Sultan
It seems to be a shader issue or poorly exported skin texture file, my guess is the bake didn't account for the skin's texture properly as if you zoom into the skin it's clear there's an overlay of sorts and his base skin tone is a lighter shade. Which is not the case with leader designs who are intended to have dark skin

His skin tone is questionable as are most.
A japanese teacher taught me something very important: look at the facial features. On a normal face with no alterations, you can easily tell who is black and who isn't. Like all ethnicities, black people have very distinctive facial features, scents and hair texture.

Nobunaga gathered the ingredients, Hideyoshi baked the cake, Ieyasu ate the cake.
Ieyasu just snuck in at the last minute and undid anything good Nobunaga was trying achieve. Hideyoshi had potential to carry that legacy, but made it so no other commoner, like himself, could rise through the ranks to Shogun, also led a failed invasion of Korea.
Nobunaga was the best.
Pretty sure Hideyoshi was never shogun due to his commoner status.
Checked Wiki and turns out he was Chancellor of the Realm and advisor to the emperor.

I love greedy gameplay! I settle 6 or 7 tiles away from my cities to secure land everywhere. Tokugawa Ieyasu is my kinda commander. With Meiji Restoration, ample land for farming triangles, and better domestic trade routes, it's wonderful!
But With him you want to settle everything *within* 6 tiles, as Close to each other as possible

If anything like the 1st pack, no.
Since none of the 4 did in the diplomats pack, I doubt it.
Hopefully in future patches they'll add them but I don't have too much hopes up.
It's a small thing, but the lack of achievements for the new leaders is one of my bigger disappointments for the new expansion pass. I don't even need anything elaborate, just a simple "win a game with Abraham Lincoln" would be plenty.
Suleimans blackpencil painting looks amazing but ingame its disgustingly bad.
I guess it will be a splaendid addon. As i got it correct Tocugava is a brilliant leader

People seem to be misunderstand the reason for Tokugawa's tourism bonus. -It would help to consider it a -*-defensive-*- bonus rather than an -*-offensive-*- one: It isn't there to make him better at a Culture victory, it's there to help him 'preserve his isolationism' narratively while mechanically it just makes it harder for Japan to succumb to a foreign civilization's culture.- Culture is what defends against foreign Tourism: This actually gives him a *harder* time defending against foreign culture, which...is certainly fitting. Especially since his strictly inferior foreign trade routes really mess up one of the more important sources of tourism in the game: You *could* still go for a Cultural victory with him if you really want to, but he's worse at it than other leaders because he doesn't receive the tourism bonus from foreign trade routes and he doesn't want to make foreign trade routes in the first place.

I better be safe from conquest in base game as Tokugawa or I’ll be really angry if they take over my capital. As for Nader Shah, I need to get the highest amount of land units than the naval units and earn Golden Ages as Suleiman in Gathering Storm.
I mean... if you lose your capital in civ, you're probably just losing in general.

Since Nader Shah was lived during colonial era, having immortals as unique units doesn't make sense for me... But over all I liked the design and new mechanics for these new leaders.

Well since persia was already a civ before him they couldn't really give him a more fitting unit
Leaders and UUs not being from the same time period has happened before throughout the Civ series. For example in earlier games with Mao Zedong you had him paired with medieval Chinese UUs, or 17th century style Musketeers with Napoleon or Charles de Gaulle, Gandhi of India with pre modern style war elephants, etc.
That’s because the Immortal is Persia’s unique unit, not Nader Shah’s.

Tbf, Civ V and Civ VI function very differently that to compare is a rather fruitless endeavour.
Civ V has its merits, Civ VI has its merits. One not necessarily being better than the other, in that they both play very differently. Moreso, in that one can be preferred over the other.
@L1LE1 I own Civ 3, 4, 5, 6. All of them are absolutely different and once I start playing new and get used to it I suddenly don't know how to play old one. I revisited old ones, and they seem strange to me now.
What about the console players? I feel like second class player for purchasing the game on PS.

The base colors of his skin tone seem to be for a lighter skin type, maybe the shaders used when they recorded his animations didn't properly account for the surface of the skin. Should be relatively simply to create a new version of those animations, not sure how complex adding them to the game be though
@@Americanbadashh Even in the base game his skin color was darker. And also you are right about how hard this could be for them to redo. I love to play Civ and Suleiman is one of my fav leader in the game. I hope they fix their mistake next time.

Tokugawa might be pretty good in MP environment where international trade route is not exactly reliable. As Japan benefit from adjacency bonus of districts, it naturally is more incentivized then others to build districts. Therefore, the domesitc trade route bonus will naturally come into picture which is nice.
Nader Shah has a pretty mediocre combat bonus comapred to +2 movement of Cyrus. It gets higher yield from domestic trade route from conquered cities but it is just a win more bonus where you first have to conquer cities which Cyrus can do a better job.
Magnificent is okay. Going into golden age isn't hard to do and extra culture and science yield is generally pretty solid bonus. I don't think Jannisary is that good especially after melee infantry line added men at arms and you can rely on heavy cavalry line which is usually the staple of land warfare in general. You don't really have control of when others will not be in golden age which makes the bonus rather inconsistent and +4 is not really strong compared to what other war oriented civ can get. So overall it is better replacement than the vanilla leader but nothing too ground breaking.

They mentioned it in a stream, implying that the expansion isn't gonn be on console because of licensing agreements with Sony and Microsoft

It seems to be Wolins suzerein bonus, they recieve Great general points equal to 25% of the the base combat strength of units they kill. 25% of 15 base strength comes to 3.75 Great general points, but because they are on quick speed, they receive less than that.

Please give support to the console community, whether that is fixing the crashing problem it has had for at least a year now or just adding this and map building would be great! Obviously it would run worse on old gen, but there should at least be some fix to have more than 20 minutes of gameplay without crashing.

Can you please at least add the bug fixes that you have added to this pass for the PC onto the console versions? Even if legally you can't bring the Leaders pass it's only right you address the console versions with the fixes you have implemented here such as the Culture Industry 999+ turns bug fix in Dramatic ages. Surely if this has been remedied then it can be patched to console?
