Personally, I think saw 6 is one of the better movies in the entire franchise because of it's commentary on the healthcare system, its creative traps, and I think it uses the john kramer flashbacks the best. I also really enjoy the hoffman character, so that also helps it.
Great list keep doing what your doing I’m sure you put a lot of time and effort to what your doing and I appreciate it
got it👍
I think it's odd and hypocritical how a criticism you have of Saw VI is that the takeaway is problematic but don't levy that criticism against Saw X. The players in the games are guilty of the same thing. In Saw 6, they trick vulnerable people to pay them hundreds of dollars monthly under the false pretense that if they fall ill and need treatment, it will be covered, only to scam them and refuse to use the money they've paid in to cover the treatment. It's literally a scam, just like those who took John Kramer's money that he was duped into believing would pay for his treatment, and pocketing it instead of giving him the treatment. Just because one form of scamming, stealing, and deception was "legal" doesn't make it better. In fact, denying coverage for pre-existing conditions was made illegal by the ACA shortly after Saw 6 came out because we as a society realized how monstrous, immoral and rancid that practice was.
What you think is problematic is that you believe the movie is saying these people deserve to suffer, correct? Well Saw X is far more explicit in that message because John Kramer is unambiguously presented as the good guy. Saw VI doesn't preach about Jigsaw being good or bad, just lets the games play out. If anything I'd say some of the players in Saw X were more innocent than in Saw VI. In the newest movie, we had a prostitute and a drug addict taking part in scamming John. People at the bottom rung of society who are just trying to escape their lives of poverty and degradation by scamming John, a reasonably well off man, out of money. Most of the participants in Saw 6's game (the main guy, his lawyer, the 6 on the carousel) were rich white collar workers scamming people to get richer. No sympathy can be granted to them. If any movie's message is problematic it's Saw X.
You know you’re good at what you do when someone like me who’s never seen a Saw movie or never will see this video and says “I have to know what Sean’s ranking is”
I'm the exact same lmao😂😅
Clearly you saw it if you’re commenting. Or did you literally just click on the video to comment that? Make it make sense
@@jaysony8587 There's a missing comma. "never seen a saw film or never will, see this video and say". They're saying "never have or will watch saw, but still wanna see sean's ranking"
Lol right….my thing is I’ve only seen the 1st three movies and I was in high school when they came out. I only liked the 1st movie….so seeing that a recent Saw film was coming out i was like, yikes.
But I like seeing the ranking of these movies.
@jaysony8587 reading comprehension is important.
I think the reason Saw VI is liked as much as it is is due to it being liked in a very similar way as Saw X. The people in the trap have been doing bad things to vulnerable people, and Jigsaw set up a game for them.
The main character in VI actually has a character arc as the game progresses and is sorry for what he had done, and he still meets a tragic end (from Rodrick).
VI also has "the policy" where Jigsaw uses the company policy of those insurance workers against them, in an interesting twist of the morals of the game. Only some can live, but that's not his idea, it's the policy of the people in the game coming to bite them in the ass.
Also the fact that it works pretty well as a standalone movie without putting too much focus on the mediocre Hoffman/detective backstory
Heyyy don't diss the hip John Kramer getup, I envy his ability to absolutely pull off that outfit as his age.
Good call. I hope I still can
SAW 6 stan here. I just loved how we had a smart protagonist (William Easton) that made decisions that a lot of viewers would have probably made. A lot of emotions in that movie. Didn’t really pay too much attention to the detective story as much.
Same i like hoffman
I think this is a very peculiar horror franchise in terms of its approach. This and Scream always battle it out for my favorite horror franchise, but they couldn't be more different when it comes to how they appeal to different audiences. I think Saw is a franchise where if you're not a die hard fan, you'll probably lose interest around the 2nd or 3rd film, and that's totally fair, because the movies are very interested in constructing this overarching story about John and all his apprentices, and the timeline gets EXTREMELY complex, so if you're not into it, you'll just stop caring about all that and find it too complicated. It's probably why Saw fans and general audiences have wildly different rankings: for most Saw fans, some of the decisions that were made in Jigsaw and Spiral either mess with the integrity of the timeline, which at that point, was almost entirely traceable in detail, or bring up new stuff that has nothing to do with that overarching story, hence why we're not interested in it. As a massive Saw fan, I would say most Saw fans I talk to love the first 6 movies because of what I just mentioned (I actually also really like the games in Saw IV-VI) appreciate aspects of VII, but also recognize some of the awful aspects of it, and aren't fond of the 2 newest movies, not considering Saw X. When it comes to the non-Saw fans, quite a few of my friends often confuse which events happened in which movie, and it gets too much, to the point where it sorta feels like a chore to keep up with it
I read allat.
Saw is just the Kingdom Hearts of horror movies
I read allat too
Saw VI is great for a variety of reasons. William Easton is one of the best trap protagonists, if not the best. He seems to genuinely learn his lesson and evolves from an unlikeable character, to a likeable one. The game itself is great and has lots of clever. Symbolic traps based around the health insurance policies. I know some people had to die, but games like that have existed since even the first film, and they were all designed by John, not Hofman.
Hoffman is badass. His development as a character is amazing. He's at the stage now where John's teachings have gone too far, he's fully detached from emotion, he's a monster. John pushed his best apprentice to insanity. He's on the edge and getting his identy exposed was the final straw. Most fans love slasher Hoffman (The Hoffmanator), and he has the 'will to surive' that John always talks about. He literally escaped from an rigged inescapable trap, mutilating himself in the process.
Saw VI also does a good job tieing up loose ends and utilising flashbacks. We finally see Hoffman and Amanda together, we find out why Amanda killed Lynn, we find out loads about Jill. I don't think anyone was expecting Jill to be a part of John's work, but they made it work.
The entire end sequence from when the music starts is amazing, and in top 3 endings with Saw 1 and Saw 3. The entire scene where they're descrambling Hoffmans voice is great and often considered one of the most intense scenes in the series. The shotgun carousel is iconic, and probably the most well known trap from outside the original trilogy.
The entire film is just considered near perfect. Obviously I can understand that if you dislike Hoffman, you may dislike Saw VI. But most fans either love him, or love to hate him, and this film had some of his best and most iconic scenes.
The Saw producers confirmed the other day that Saw XI will be Hoffman centric, and that the Saw X post credits scene was a teaser for that.
Costas Mandylor was the best thing that happened to the serie. I personally like the most Saw 4 and 5 because it has two charismatic guys in Mandylor and Peterson who stand against each other. It is like horror Heat with De Niro vs Pacino. And the ending of the 5th was totally devastating.
This deserves a heart from the youtuber (Sean) so more people can see this. Great comment. :)
Saw VI is the only one where I felt like the person in the trap learns from their mistakes and would become better if they got out, the traps are a little unfair but personal and it’s got Rodrick in it which is grand 👍
As a point of reference, I don’t think there are any terrible movies in this franchise. In my opinion, all of them have a certain amount of merit to them. Just keep that in mind
10. Saw 3D: The Final Chapter-While I think there’s an interesting concept with the game that Sean Patrick Flanery is playing, it’s a lackluster closure to the original run of these films that’s so desperate to sell tickets that they had to use a 3-D gimmick
9. Saw V-Aside from liking the actual game, which has no connection to all of the Agent Straum versus Detective Hoffman shenanigans, it starts to feel like a franchise running out of steam, which doesn’t make for a particularly fulfilling experience
8. Saw VI-There’s definitely several interesting ideas with the “policy” of an insurance company, but because this is in the Hoffman era of franchise, people that are part of traps with no choice have to die, Hoffman can magically get away with everything, and the lore has gotten so layered and so many twists have happened that it’s very convoluted
7. Saw IV-While this is the movie where the quality of the franchise took quite a bit of a dip with James Wan and Leigh Whannell not being part of the creative process anymore, I still enjoy the lesson being taught to Rigg, some of the flashbacks of Jigsaw’s backstory, and the multiple twists at the end
6. Jigsaw-Despite appreciating that this movie tells a stand alone, self contained story that has a beginning, middle, and end, it just kind of feels like Lionsgate found a five year old script that was written in 2012, and decided, “You know what? Let’s do another Saw film!”
5. Spiral: From the Book of Saw-I understand how this movie simply feels too disconnected from the rest of the franchise for Saw fans to really care about this one, but I actually enjoy this film because it feels like more of a back to basics approach to this franchise that functions more as a Saw spin-off than a Saw sequel
4. Saw III-A pretty solid addition to the franchise that changes up enough of the pieces of the first two films to have an interesting emotional aspect between John and Amanda, the tests that Jeff’s put through about forgiveness, and my favorite Saw trap in The Rack
3. Saw-Despite having some weak acting and the the budget holding it back a bit, it’s a very good psychological horror film that uses its script and small scale instead of trying to be overly elaborate and hyper violent to make for a satisfying experience
2. Saw II-A rock solid sequel that takes everything great about the original, and builds upon it by having a more streamlined story, a significantly bigger budget, a better, more engaging lead, and a good bit of room to have Tobin Bell shine as John Kramer
1. Saw X-Other than some flaws that just come along with this franchise, I thought this was a pretty great Saw film that has all of the ideas, gore, and twisted plot points that makes this franchise interesting and incredibly addictive, but with a lot of emotion and depth that comes from John Kramer being the lead, which took this movie to the next level to be the best Saw film in my mind
Is this your own personal ranking? Does it just happen to match the ranking in the video?
They should've never killed off Peter Strahm.
Of the ones I saw (ba dum tsch)
1) Saw X - This one blew me away by how good it was. Having Kramer and Amanda as the protagonists makes for such an interesting twist on things, and I like how awful they make the victims seem. It makes watching the events more fun and less cruel. Brilliant traps and story, loved it.
2) Saw II - Expands on the premise of the first brilliantly, having all the contestants locked up together and roam a house full of deadly traps was really cool, and the twist at the end is possibly my favourite in any film I've seen.
3) Saw - The original is still super effective as it's grounded and gives you protagonists to actually get invested in. It's also paced well enough so that it leaves you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Ending twist is fantastic as well.
4) Saw III - Not quite as good as its predecessors, but some delightfully gruesome traps and an interesting Kramer story. Even if Amanda missed the entire point of Jigsaw's game, and Jeff is an annoying protagonist.
5) Jigsaw - I feel like it misses the point of the franchise in a number of ways, the most notable being how blockbuster-esque the cinematography is, as opposed to the grimy and choppy editing of the original. The traps suck, the story sucks, why are there flat screen TVs in the 90s, it leans too hard on the comedy and introduces yet another apprentice that we don't care about. Fail.
You watched Jigsaw and not 4-7? That’s a joke 😂
@@MisterDevos Netflix is the only streaming service I have and I haven't gotten around to getting the sequels on disc yet 🤷♂️
I tend to agree with your list jigsaw could have been so much better
@@LexVanguard2004you too young to have watched them in theatre or this alien concept known as satellite or cable? Lmao nobody gives a fuck about your opinion if that’s the case
Saw 2 honestly wasn't ALL that. I preferred Saw 3 personally.
Personally, Saw VI was my favorite. I work as a medical biller in a hospital so the concept of this movie is soooo interesting to me!
Saw 6 is actually one of my favorites because William Easton is one of the only people who seems to actually learn from his test. On top of that, the gore isn't completely over the top as it is with Saw 3D, so it's not completely unwatchable like many of the other films.
I think a lot of the tests is about the victim choice, I'm pretty sure only one person had to die in that roulette by shooting the same person 5 times
My ranking:
10: Saw IV
9: Saw V
8: Saw 3D
7: Jigsaw
6: Saw VI
5: Spiral
4: Saw III
3: Saw II
2: Saw X
1: Saw
How is Jigsaw better than Saw 5? wtf.
and Spiral is your top 5? Jesus. Of course it’s your opinion, but yeesh.
I have seen Chris from 3Cfilms suggest that maybe Saw X got more praise from the critics becauss before critics would see a film like Saw just being "tortune porn" and dismiss it and just call it bad. Nowadays, you can have all the blood and guts, but if the story and characters are great, critics can still love a movie like Saw X (I believe also that Terrifier 2 has a positive percentage as well)
I think part of that comes down to the story though. As Sean mentioned, this is the first one where we really get to see these people and learn about them outside the games before they are in them. It really feels the most developed. The others, even when they did give stories to the characters, it was a few lines or a short flashback. Here we have an hour to get to know them before the game starts.
My Ranking is:
01- Saw II
02- Saw
03- Saw X
04- Saw III
05- Saw IV
06- Saw VI
07- Saw V
08- Saw 3D
09- Jigsaw
10- Spiral

I just watched the original Saw less than a week ago, so here’s what I have to say.
Right off the bat I wanna say my previous comment about this was worded poorly on your initial Saw X Out of theater reaction, and it made it sound like I really didn’t like it. I went ahead and deleted it so I can give my official opinion right here.
So I really dug the original Saw, it was an effective mystery with a new spin on the horror genre which involved the victims actually murdering themselves in an accident while getting out of an escape room. And the fact that the two lead characters have a history with each other adds some great dynamic between their interactions and decisions. Now obviously when it comes to the Saw franchise you have to mention the gore, and I am in the category that thinks it was a little too much, I literally had to turn my head as Lawrence was cutting off his foot cause it really got under my skin, but that does mean it is effective at what it’s doing which is to gross you out. Another plus to this film is the killer himself John Kramer “Jigsaw” who has an interesting philosophy about the world as he’s dying with cancer. And of course, the final reveal that he was there all along playing dead was one of the most mind blowing twists of all time, throughout a lot of the movie, I was thinking it was the cop who was killed by the shotgun trap but nope it was the killer himself. Plus the final shot with Adam screaming in agony as Jigsaws closes the door saying game over is an incredibly memorable image. And the final thing I’d like to say is I like how it has an ambiguous ending where we don’t know what happens with Lawrence or Adam, and it’s up to the audience to fill in the gaps. Now I’m aware that several of those questions are answered in the sequels, which is why I don’t actually plan on watching them. Personally I love it when movies make me really think so I’ll just stick to this film with my questions unanswered, and also I don’t want to be grossed out by any more dismembering traps. So I enjoyed the story, but I was pretty grossed out so it’s hard to watch in that regard but overall I’d give it a solid 7/10
I read allat.
Saw X used to be called Saw Twitter. Then Elon Musk bought it.
"Hello, i want to play a game. In front of you is your X profile. You have made a lot of mean tweets over the years, now you have 1 minute to delete them before they'll be sent to your employer. Let the games begin"
I’m so sorry that you’ve watched all these movies at least 3 times now 😭😭
NO. I've only seen Saw X once.
I've watched all more than that. It's nothing to be sorry about. They're good movies
@@wandergaming7936Yea apart from part 7 I enjoy every single one of these movies
I guess you could say he SAW them 😜
@@megamoviez I'll SAW you in a minute for that
Great video. What I’ve noticed about “Spiral”, Is that most people that are just casual fans of “Saw” or don’t care for the franchise really enjoy the movie. While people that are huge fans of the “Saw” franchise like myself hate the movie.

1. Saw X- a lot of thought was put into this one. Feels like lightning in a bottle, didn't expect it to be so good.
Great ranking Sean!
I LOVED Saw III!
Definitely agree with your top 3. Saw 2 was by far my favorite for so long as it was still grounded and focused on John a lot, while having lots of good traps and really upped things from the original. But the X easily overtook it. Really hope they do a sequel or a trilogy off of this one. I could easily see Cecilia returning to get revenge on John since she was left alive at the end and she has the money and power to seek out revenge on him.
Great ranking Sean I only seen the first 3 of the saw series but I excited to see Saw x for myself

You made some very interesting comments about the films in the series. This is my ranking (very different from yours but loved your insight!)
1. Saw 6 - It was the only film that I actually liked Hoffman as the villain. He was menacing and I loved that it showed John’s philosophy could easily be twisted. I also liked the trap and the social commentary.
2. Saw 4 - Was the one that made me fall in love with the series. Loved the twist that basically confirmed that the series could continue without John. Plus it gave us the only competent police officer in the series (Straham).
3. Saw X - We finally see John Kramer front and center. Loved how personal and emotional the story was. Loved the twist with Carlos, and loved that they show John mentoring Amanda).
4. Saw 2 - I love this one because it cemented John as one of the most interesting yet horrifying villains in horror history. I remember seeing the film with my parents and I was shook with the twist ending.
5. Jigsaw - Got a lot of hate, but I thought it was a good revival. Hated the final trap though and how John had an accomplice out of the blue. He should have been a copy cat.
6. Saw 3 - Couldn’t stand Amanda (her personality was so different than the previous films and Saw C) and Jeff. Didn’t really care about the characters except for John. Great traps tho!
7. Saw - Controversial, I know, loved it when it came out, has a great twist ending but is incredibly slow as compared to the sequels. Every time I watch it, never sure if I still like it.
8. Saw 5 - Idk why but I find it boring. You can see they struggled with what to do without Jigsaw. The only thing I liked was Straham but boy was I mad when he died. Everything else felt meh.
9. Spiral - It was a boring film. And I cannot stand Chris Rock. Didn’t like his acting at all.
10. Saw: The Final Chapter - there’s nothing I can say that has not been said already.
possible the most L take of all time
MY PERSONAL RANKING:
10. Saw V
9. Saw IV
8. Saw 3D
7. Saw III
6. Saw
5. Saw II
4. Saw X
3. Saw VI
2. JIGSAW
1. Spiral
Also great video btw 😎✌️
I love how different our lists are! Long time fan here, so of course have a lot of nostalgia for the early movies. I think the main difference in opinion is that I like the hoffman era a lot more than you. I do like 9/10 of these movies too, which i know is crazy!
10. Jigsaw - Ignoring that all of the traps are forgettable, the story just makes zero sense. Most saw movies reward you for rewatching, but every time i rewatch this, i hate it more. The dialog is written like an mcu movie too which sucks!
9. Saw III - JUST MOVE FASTER JEFF! (The Rack is legit the best trap in the entire series though)
8. Saw IV - The most convuluted story of the franchise, with just a weird message for the main character to not help people. Like thats a bad thing? The scalping trap gets me every time though, and it has a cool twist.
7. Saw 3D - I appreciate how balls to the wall this movie goes, of course the 3D moments suck and the pink blood is distracting, but low key has some of the best traps in the series and i like the idea of a guy faking he was in a trap. Plus the reverse bear trap finally is used!
6 - Spiral - I like spiral, some great traps and chris rock brings some needed comedy. Its a shame the twist is so predictable otherwise this would be a lot higher.
5. Saw V - This does exactly what you should want from a saw movie and nothing more really. Nothing spectacular but definitely rewatchable. Fun main traps and some good backstory for Hoffman.
4. Saw - The original is great, and its sensational what they do with the budget they have. The acting is really bad at times, and the last twist is overrated to me (i still dont really understand why he had to play dead there?)
3. Saw X - Ive only seen this once so this could move up or down, but i really enjoyed it! Starts off slow and not sure about the ending yet, but we FINALLY got a saw movie with John and Amanda as the main characters. And it delivers.
2. Saw II - This movie rocks! The best twists in the franchise, expands the world and some great traps.
1. Saw 6 - This is where we disagree most! I think this is the perfect saw movie for what i want out of one. The traps are creative and gnarly, the soap opera stuff with Hoffman and Jill is really entertaining to me, has a great twist, and is paced brilliantly!
Saw 6 is my favorite too
Im so happy to read so much praise for saw 6 in the comments. It’s also among my favorite ones. The “game” storyline and Hoffman 😳 it was so good

Saw X was SO good!! Im so happy they actually pulled it off. My ranking is:
1. Saw X
2. Saw
3. Saw 2
4. Spiral
5. Saw 3
6. Jigsaw
Haven’t seen the other films.
Spiral was so overhated I might agreE with your list tbh
Hoffman is the pure definition of plot armor. Like he's able to getaway until the plot needs him to get caught. It's why saw 4 through 7 are the bottom of the franchise. It should have been Amanda who carry on the jigsaw torch cause she had more twisted philosophy than jigsaw and also the idea of unwinnable traps is a great concept. Also I called b.s on jigsaw for saying he never killed people no you kill tons of people by putting them in the traps. He does it cause he wants to and likes it by the fact he watches them
It was during part 6 that I thought to myself, "Why am I still watching these movies?" So, I haven't seen 7 or Spiral. I watched Jigsaw with a friend a year or two ago and was only reminded why I tapped out of the franchise. The positive reaction to X has me considering dipping my toe back in, because I did enjoy the first three.
Saw X has the best acting & soundtrack in the entire franchise. You will care about 1 person that is part of the traps. The twist? It's the only thing that people are mixed on. Me personally I loved it but there's 1 thing that pissed me off. But that would be spoiling something big.
@joewas2225 Now that it's been four months, care to let us in on what pissed you off?
Even though I disagree with the list, I respect you ! Our taste for saw is quite different lol. Mark Hoffman is my 2nd favorite character, just behind jigsaw himself. Saw is my fav movie franchise !!! Story is just amazing especially how the first 7 movies are connected to each other. Worst to my favorite
10- Spiral 4,5/10 (but I still wanna see a sequel to it)
9- jigsaw 9/10 (I want a sequel to this immediately, see more of Logan Nelson)
8- saw X 9,5/10 (technically speaking better than some of these films and I LOVED to see John as the protagonist, but I still prefer the first era of saw 1-7, but X was almost a masterpiece!! Love it !!
7- saw 2 10/10
6- saw 3D 10/10 (most underrated saw movie, I don’t care about the pink blood and I loved the story)
5- saw 4 10/10

In regards to Saw 3-D while I totally agree with all of your criticisms, I do think the idea of an author writing about pretending to be a Jigsaw survivor and is actually put into traps that he claims he made it through was a really good idea IN THEORY. I agree that the execution didn’t pay off, but the idea was definitely there!
Hey Sean, I myself also just got through a rewatch (3rd time for me), and now having watched Saw X here’s my ranking:

Previously Saw 6 was in my Top 3 but now it is fighting for 3 place with the original- the shock of the original is legendary, but the story of 6 is very compelling and oddly similar to that of X. I realized that Saw 2 was really one of my favorites after watching Saw X, because Saw 2 had the most one on one time with Kramer compared to the rest of them (till X).
Overall I’m really glad this franchise is back!
Anybody else watch Saw for the first time on the Sci fi channel 15 years ago?
Omg 16 years ago for me, syfy made me fall in love with horror movies
@@osakpromisedland8850 same here bro back in the day it was the shit
It's interesting how where you come into the franchise can certainly affect your perspective and rankings. I watched the original SAW the year it came out and it really affected me. I thought that film came out during a time where horror had gotten really stale and gimmicky, but SAW came in with grit, intelligence, an interesting story, and characters you cared about and completely changed the genre.

I mean, John with the cap backwards did it's job and make us know he's meant to be younger. I think it's better than trying to use CGI or a stand-in actor.
To me, Saw 1 is more a Thriller Horror than just a horror. You've got the police working on the case, there's a good mystery aspect.

Alot of people dislike Saw 3D, I thought some of the pratical effects were fine, the acting was a bit better then Saw 5; this movie is decent to say the least. Also, I really like Saw 6 because they do deliver some nasty and brutal kills in this one, and I especially like the scene where they were trying to figure out who was doing the Jigaw's demonic voice during Seth Baxter's trap, that scene was nerve wreaking; and I actually do like the character of Mark Hoffman. I think he rivals the John Kramer perfectly. Also I respect your opinion.
“ The acting was a bit better than Saw 5”. It’s not then, it’s than.
I worked at Hastings video store back when Saw 2 came out & that movie felt like it had a lot of steam behind it. I remember renting it early and viewing it with friends and we had such a blast! 🍿
Could you do a Martin Scorsese and Wes Anderson movie ranking?
Your entire list matches mine, except, take saw VI and move it to second, and every movie move one down, saw X stays #1

The fucking hoffmanator haha. Unstoppable and hilarious. S tier villain
This would be my opinions on the films
10: Jigsaw - Truly hate this one, provides no real value for anyone as not only does the plot and twist suck but so do the traps! It has some bad plot holes and just could've done something else instead of the 10 years earlier thing. Also Jigsaw is omniscient as he apparently knows things even the police don't, how incredible.
9: Saw 3D - Still the drizzling shits, only reason why I'd place it above Jigsaw is because the traps are better on average. Still, bad trap plot with that awful brazen bull but Terminator Hoffman is kinda funny.
8: Saw III - Too fucking long, Jeff kills this film for me, the guy learns nothing from his game where he could free the people then yell at them instead of just idk, letting them brutally die. Hate what they did to Amanda, something only reinforced by Saw X, at least some of the traps are alright but gah damn, 2 hours.
7: Saw V - Bad twist due to that bad ceiling jars trap, bad trap plot with nothing but unlikeable characters who are at their most stupid. To me, the parts with Strahm, Perez and Ericsson save the film which is not great for a Saw film.
6. Saw IV - Absolutely whatever film, Rigg is cool to follow and I quite like his character and the trap plot may not make a whole lot of sense but I enjoy Jigsaw making one of his participants operate the traps. The twist is bad though, making Hoffman, a dude we've never got to know besides 3 SCENES, Jigsaw's accomplice is bad.
5. Saw VI - I like Saw VI for the trap plot but care very little for anything relating to Hoffman or Jill. There's a point in these films where you just go, eh people have to die I guess and for the message Jigsaw's trying to tell William, I believe these are the forced death traps that work best.
4. Spiral - Never, ever understood the hate for this film, Chris Rock is a lot of fun in the lead role and I like how all the traps relate to the sins of the officers. I like William as the killer even if it is blatantly obvious and the investigation scenes are actually enjoyable. Like Spiral and don't get the distaste.
3. Saw - Great, amazing for what it was but doesn't stand up as much as some people say it does. The Bathroom trap is amazing and the detective scenes are great and my only real issues are with production which is understandable but weakens rewatches.
2. Saw X - Definitely going to have to rewatch this one as I fucking loved it, the focus on Kramer and Amanda was picture fucking perfect and of course the traps were all cool too. I think this is objectively the best Saw film but not my personal favourite.
1. Saw II - The film that hooked me on Saw for however good or bad that is. The Nerve Gas House is a great set piece and yet again the traps are all pretty good, the Death Mask/Venus Fly Trap may be my favourite trap. The twist is the best in the series for me and much like Saw X there is an abundance of John Kramer which is the best formula for Saw. This also revealed Amanda as the accomplice before they squandered her character in Saw III.

I'll say that Saw VI has a longer trap that feels more thematically tied into the ethos of the Jigsaw killer while clearly involving those who have found themselves involved in his personal life.
It helps that my mother was denied coverage for her cancer. So I certainly found myself connecting with Jigsaw's reasoning
saw 6🐐 but w ranking
Not seen saw X yet but for me my ranking is
1. saw 3 (gruesome, good story, very satisfying, best one in my opinion)
2. Saw 2 (John Kramer really shined in this one and sets up the third so well)
3. Saw 1 (It’s not the best but it started off this amazing franchise plus it was an extremely original idea on a tiny budget)
4. Saw 4 (Best film for Johns origins and had the most deserving people in ten traps. I don’t know why people dislike it so much. I think it’s great in my opinion)
5. Saw 5 (I enjoyed the traps, the lesson and the relationship building between Hoffman and Kramer)
6. Spiral (Genuinely surprised how good it is, it’s not my favourite but its a respectable spin off)
7. Saw 6 (I liked hoffmans arc to a sense but the unfair traps betrayed Kramers logic and ideology but I appreciate he was never going to play fair)
8. Saw 7 (I agree it’s not a great Saw film but I do find Hoffmans fate satisfying. But the traps were even more unfair than 6 but I do appreciate the principle of the story. That pink CGI blood can get in the bin though!!!)
9. Jigsaw (not a big fan. I appreciate it’s place and maybe it’ll go up if they expand Logan’s story but I find it off and detached from the franchise)
I am seeing saw x on Wednesday though!

I don't dislike Hoffman but I agree he's not a great villain and they never explain why he is so smart. But, I really enjoy Saw 6, the game is one of the best, it's all these bad people who choose who lives and dies with their policy, and Jigsaw is testing if William will follow that when people will die in front of him. The traps themselves are pretty good, William goes through an arc, the twist is pretty decent, and as much as the cop stuff became secondary, the scene where they identify Hoffman's voice with him it the room is wonderfully tense.
Personally it's in my top 3 of Saw 2, 1, 6

Well we probably all disagree violently on the rankings of these films, but I'm sure there's one thing we can agree on...
Every single one of these ten films is better than Lionsgate's other "Saw" franchise- "Are you scared?"...
I really wish they had done more with Doctor Gordan.... it always made sense to me that John needed someone who could do all these surgeries... they should have really explored that idea instead of the crappie way they closed the Doctors story.

Loved hearing your thoughts and advocating for being open-minded! Even as someone who liked Hoffman and his saga, it was pretty cathartic to hear your issues with 6 and 7. I feel very similarly.

Haven't seen Jigsaw yet, I plan to, soon. I'll be watching Saw X tomorrow.
8. Saw 3D, this movie is so messy and uninteresting, nothing redeemable about it. 2/10, only thing I enjoyed was the cameo by Chester Bennington, and the idea of Gordon being an apprentice since Saw 2 (hated the execution)
7. Saw 2, so overrated in my eyes, love the stuff with Eric Matthews and Jigsaw, but hate pretty much everything about the house trap. 4/10, the whole interrogation with Eric Matthews and Jigsaw is amazing. I like Amanda a lot also, definitely my favorite apprentice. But the house trap is literally following around a bunch of idiots being killed.
6. Spiral, definitely overhated, but it's very flawed I agree. Oddly special. 6/10, here upward are ones I love rewatching, this one just barely gets above average because it is a charming movie.
5. Saw 4, this and Spiral are basically in the same spot, they flip around a lot. 6/10, I like a lot of the stuff in this movie, but it almost feels unmotivated at times, like it's very unclear what it wants to be at times.
4. Saw 5, I love the cat and mouse game between Strahm and Hoffman in this and the main trap about Teamwork was pretty great. 7/10, this one is a great movie despite some pacing problems and overall structure.
3. Saw 3, I unabashedly love this one a lot, it's not perfect but I really liked the more emotionally tied down feel it has. The overall theme of Forgiveness was very well implemented. 9/10, I love this one a lot, the traps, the characters the overall game is very interesting and fun to dive into
2. Saw 6, I understand the dislike of this movie but I really liked this one a lot. Mostly for all the stuff with William Easton and what he has to go through in this. 9/10, I love the overall "f you" energy this one has, it's basically Jigsaw putting the man who aided in his demise get put through a twisted process of what they do to their customers.
1. Saw, even though this movie ain't perfect, this movie is very special to me. I've always loved it for its grungy feel. I have a similar love towards it as I do the original Evil Dead, where it's a smaller horror film and it's a big reason I got into Horror and filmmaking in general. 10/10, these rankings are in comparison to each other, so yeah the number would change in comparison to different horror films, but at the end of the day this movie is partly why I love horror so much
Well you probably "saw" Saw X by now, so where does it place I'm curious.
Here's my ranking
10. Saw 7 - (I don't like calling it Saw 3D cause I'd just rather not acknowledge that the film's in 3D). This film is garbage and I have a hard time believing it has the highest budget of the original 7 films. The film literally looks like dollar store saw and man I really hate Hoffman in this movie specifically.
9. Saw 3 - here's the thing, this movie was like 20 minutes too long for me. It's the second longest in the series and it certainly shows. Jeff is my least favorite protagonist solely because he just sits there and whines. I get that he does deserve to feel vengeful because of the awful thing that happened to his family, but bro... PLEASE just help them out of the trap first, then bitch at them after.
8. Saw 4 - This is one of the most bland movies in the series for me. Everything about it feels uninspired and messy. I don't have many negative or positive things to say about this one because I don't really care.
7. Jigsaw - This movie along with Spiral I feel gets wayyy too much hate. But with this one the hate is a little more deserved because I feel this movie has the most noticeable flaws and plot holes in the series. Even with watching this for the very first time it's easy to pick apart the story and realize that it just doesn't work. However I do like Logan, Halloran, and Eleanore as main characters.
6. Saw 5 - As you said, the cat and mouse game between Strahm and Hoffman was really entertaining and suspenseful, and the trap game for this film is highly intriguing. It's easy to understand that these are terrible people who probably deserve to be there, but by the end of it I can begin to respect the two survivors for actually leaving the game as better people than they were before.
5. Saw 2 - This film really does exactly what a sequel should do for me personally. I really enjoyed John here, and the plot is very well placed to where nobody could really see the twist of the footage not being live coming. And I do really like Daniel Matthews a lot.
4. Spiral - I've seen this film like three times already and I still am not understanding where all this hate came from. I love Chris Rock in this, the other detectives and the inner police drama was super interesting to see. It gives me some Training Day vibes with the new cop being trained by a more experience cop, but in Spiral its the complete opposite as the new guy is the evil one and the experience cop is the only cop in the entire department that is actually a good person who has been wronged by everyone in his life in some way. I love the charming nature of this film, and honestly a couple of those cops are absolute garbage people who deserve what they got (specifically detective Fitch). And I have to talk about the new voice because I feel like some people don't get it. The new voice is incredibly creepy in a weird way that's hard to explain. It's sounds like an AI voice and a human voice merged together to create a voice that's so far deep into the uncanny valley, and I love it.
3. Saw 6 - There isn't much I can say about this movie that hasn't already been said. But mainly capitalism sucks and it's satisfying to see people at the top get put in their place for what they do to the people in actual need of health care. Anybody who has dealt with shitty insurance companies will probably get some satisfaction here. And yet by the end of it, I sort of wished for William Easton to live as I felt like he really did change and deserves a second chance. Also props to the mom for not being able to bring herself to kill William even while knowing he's the man who murdered her husband, and has definitely ruined the lives of countless other families.
2. Saw 10 - This movie blew me away. I loved everything about it from the cancer story of John, to the absolutely vile and despicable con artists who deserve their place in a trap more than almost every other trap victim in the series. The story is so emotional, personal, and touching towards all those who are innocent and vulnerable to the wickedness of some people. As someone who has witnessed how difficult cancer treatment really is both physically and mentally, seeing people willing to exploit that for profit made me sicker than the actual torture scenes themselves. And man I didn't think that I could ever wish to see someone be placed in The Rack before, but Cecilia Peterson honestly deserves to be put in the rack while having boiling hot wax poured on her face with a fish hook in her stomach for good measure. And also that kid was an absolute hero, and deserves to live the happiest life with all that money he got in the end. Saw is back baby!
1. Saw 1 - I don't really know why, and I can't explain it, but this movie slaps.
My feelings with this franchise was kind of a seesaw. Saw 1, 2, and 6 were definitely my top faves. Saw 3D should've never happened and Saw 4 and 5 is just... boring. Jigsaw is dogshit (I fell asleep in the theater) and Spiral is a sister dogshit lmao
Haven't seen Saw X but this ranking surely hypes me up. The way you describe it, I feel like the original charm of Saw movies has been restored. So excited!
Easily the best 3 agreed
I actually love the Hoffman Saga (well, 4-6, not so much Saw 7), it’s a fun ride and watching the story expand so much is mind-blowing, always puts a smile on my face. Also, Hoffman’s my favorite character, so my ranking is an unusual one.

8. Saw 1
7. Saw 3
6. Saw X

4. Saw 4
3. Saw 2

1. Saw 5
I generally prefer the even-numbered films other than Saw 5, which gets top spot primarily for being the origins of my favorite character.
Jigsaw was the first Saw film I got to watch in theaters too, Sean.
Update: Now having seen Saw X twice, it’s in 3rd place, Jigsaw in 6th, and Saw 2 in 5th.
lmao Saw 1 at 8 and Saw X at 6 you literally have no taste in movies. Just because you saw Jigsaw in Theaters does not make it a top 5 Saw movie just because you like it more and have personal bias.
@@zacharydornoff9758 Just because someone doesn’t put popular choices at top spots doesn’t mean they “have no taste.” Personally, the only Saw film I don’t like is Saw 7. Spiral is fine and the other eight are to me equally great, but if I have to pick an order, it’s what I selected. Sorry that you don’t agree with it. Also, it seems you didn’t read why Saw 5 got the top spot, because if Hoffman wasn’t my favorite Saw character, it wouldn’t be so high up.
I never said the 8th film got the spot it did because it was the first one I saw in theaters. I only mentioned that because Sean mentioned it. The real reason I like Jigsaw is because it acts like a palette cleanser after Saws 1-7 and brought in the cool character of Eleanor Bonneville, who should come back in a future film, there’s a lot of potential with her.
I genuinely love Saw X, but I’ve only seen it once. Everything else I’ve seen a bunch of times, Saw X will probably be similar to Saw 3, where it moves up more and more each time I view it.
This is just where it stands now, it’s likely that Saw X will move up with time. Sorry my placement of it doesn’t fit your narrow idea of what constitutes “good taste.”
Oh, and your arguement of “Just because it was the first one you saw in theaters doesn’t mean it’s good” also applies to the original film. Just because a film started a series does not mean sequels automatically cannot be better. Saw to me is a prime example of sequels that are as good if not better than the first film.
Yes, the 1st Saw film is iconic, set the foundations, and is still a classic… but the things longtime fans of the series love were refined and done better in the sequels, starting with Saw 2. Plus, with how big the overall picture got in the second trilogy, Saw 1 now seems like a blip on the radar compared to the rest of the overall story. That doesn’t mean its bad, just that other films did more for the series, case in point Saw 2, a fan favorite.
Please, let people enjoy what they enjoy, and don’t negatively judge just because it doesn’t fit your predetermined ideas of what is “good” taste.
Also, literally any ranking someone makes will have a bias. There’s no universal standard to apply.
@@darthmeticulous6901 ok you didn’t need to write an essay I made like 3 points.. yeah but what I was trying to say is that loving a series like this (saw, fast and furious, pirates of the Caribbean, even Star Wars to name a few) and being oblivious that there are not multiple bad movies within these franchises is crazy. Like if someone said most of the saw movies aren’t that good and they start to not make sense pretty quickly then I’d be like yeah you watched these. But if someone was like yeah I loved all the Saw movies they are all so good or even most of them I’d be like really? Also, regardless of what you think or what your favorite is ranking Jigsaw above the original Saw is criminal..
@@darthmeticulous6901 like the fact that 8 of them are equally great to you literally makes no sense and I almost have to believe that you literally just didn’t watch the movies or don’t know what elements make a movie good or bad.
@@zacharydornoff9758 It’s not a matter of being oblivious to bad entries. The point I was making is most of the Saw films to me are great because they have lots of great stuff to offer. There’s nothing wrong with not hating a single film in a series or only hating one film in a series. Some people aren’t as picky as others. It doesn’t mean they’re oblivious or have bad taste, because whether a film is bad or good is entirely subjective, not factual. I don’t like Saw 7, but I have met people who like that film, and I don’t accuse them of being oblivious. I love Saw 6, but I’ve met some who don’t care for that one, and I don’t accuse them of having bad tastes. There are a wide variety of opinions out there, including this series.
The top eight in my list all have a lot of reason to love them, making it tricky to sort out. When that happens, personal preference usually decides it. I have seen some bad films, but I typically just move on and don’t feel the need to constantly complain about them, at the end of the day they are films and again it’s entirely subjective on whether someone enjoys them or not.
For the record, I fully understand the timeline. That’s why I like Saws 4-6 more than a lot of people do. That time jumping is a lot of fun and keeps one on their toes, and I can pinpoint where in the timeline the scenes are at thanks to a bunch of rewatches.
Literally these are exact words of Leigh Whannell, writer of Saws 1-3…
“Oh, you missed THAT scene in THAT film? That’s on you!”
Just wanted to send a friendly message and say, I love your channel, Sean. You’re one of the best channels on UA-cam and I’m honestly proud to be a subscriber of yours. I started chitchatting with a cool dude at my local target in the movie section (we were talking about how Target is slowly getting rid of their movies) and we ended up talking about movie critics and turns out he is subscribed to you too! Made a new buddy lol. I always look forward to your videos man, keep talking movies too much!
Thanks so much. I dealt so appreciate it.
That’s so cool!
I had a target employee recognize me once. Then it turns out his dad used to be my wife’s boss!
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout oh haha! Well I’m pretty sure this guy wasn’t your wife’s boss 🤣 this is at a Target in San Bernardino, CA. Funny enough, the guy’s name was also Sean! And we both agreed your channel is one of the best movie channels on here.
