Congrats - it's ok to have anxiety - society tries to make it feel illegal but it's perfectly normal and things like 20mins of a morning walk, 4 rounds of wim hof breathing, and a cold shower can help ward it off. Getting enough sleep (or at-least hitting our personal minimum) and having at-least 2 hours to get ready and wake up (that 20min walk during this time can work some true magic better than coffee).

As an autistic adult struggling in the work force, all these videos have taught me is to lie my ass off in the interview. This whole song and dance is so ableist. Like just ask me about my skills and qualifications as they pertain to the position, please and thank you. It’s none of their businesses whether I have long term goals with the company or not . . .

Great answer tips!! In today's uncertain times, I might also preface these by asserting that, "some of my best career growth opportunities were realized when I remained open-minded & flexible, so my 5 yr goal would include how well I perform in this role and what evolving needs this organization may have along the way."

I honestly tell them I'd like to see myself in charge of xx project or improving my skill so I can really level up. Seems to work most of the time. Though the more senior I've gotten the one thing that's made interviews harder is giving presentations. If it's based on my technical skills fine, but I recently interviewed with Dentsu and they're like "do a presentation about a past accomplishment or your work" which is very obscure and they only give you 30 minutes so you really have to keep it around 20 and leave 10 for questions to end on time.

I think in my community a lot of people are struggling artists, so talking about creative goals is less of a "death sentence" around here. That said, it certainly doesn't help land a job in retail when you basically tell people that in five years you want to be an artist instead. XD

to illustrate, i went to school for theater but have only worked in customer service. i am now shifting to work towards becoming an art (specifically drama) therapist. i want to get a job as a receptionist in a healthcare office to gain experience working with patients, while also utilizing and honing my customer relations skills. i feel like it would be helpful for them to know why i am interested in a position in healthcare without ANY experience in healthcare whatsoever.

Answer the question honestly. If that gets you eliminated, good! It's not the right company for you to work at anyway.
Convincing them that the position is the next logical step for you is good advice. Provided it actually is the next logical step. Deceiving them is bad for everyone.

  • @JukeboxBalowski

Human resources people are such morons. They asked my 75 year old father where he sees himself in 5 years. What's he supposed to say? He's not looking to move up the ladder, he just wants extra money. In 5 years he's either going to be doing the exact same thing, or he will be completely retired and home relaxing. That is, if he's even still alive at that point in time. Of course we're all hoping he will still be alive and well, but we like to keep it real!

    • @WestCoastUSA546
      @WestCoastUSA546 2 роки тому +2

No, no ain't keeping it real.
Keeping it real is - giving them what they want to hear.
      Play the game.
Frankly, I don't even think you have to believe what you are saying, just say it with confidence!
And I have zero qualms about saying here what I really feel because if 98 percent of us tell them our true feelings - we will never get hired anywhere in this country. Lol
Yet we take those bloody jobs and we bust our a$$ess for a dog bone in return, while making the employers billions of bloody dollars every year. Just take that thug Bezos for example...
      Ok, back to your sentiment:
I have a hunch they ask this question because they HAVE TO.
IMO, HR are also playing the game of asking things they don't really care about, but they are expected to ask as they follow their script.
So, as long as you actually GIVE AN (DECENT) ANSWER, and won't sabotage yourself by giving a dumb answer - you will be ok, even at 75 y.o.
Just play the game, don't take it too seriously, only be serious enough about your preparation to make the process less painful for yourself and, ultimately, successful!
Of course, age discrimination is another very real problem!

What if you are nearing the end of your career and don’t have any plans other than to retire after you’ve spent time in this role.

Are people actually dumb enough to make these mistakes? 🤣🤣🤣 I feel fucking great. I take it today's interview went great.

No, they aren't dumb if they make these mistakes the first time. Because NOBODY is born knowing or taught how to play this game. So, they are simply being honest-- and not hired!
They will, however, be dumb if they continue making the same mistakes.
