So great!! I’m doing an informational interview tomorrow with a senior person, and I know they’re going to ask this question as a sort of “get to know you” exercise. I never know what to say. This is so helpful. Jeff, you’re the best.
@@JeffSu They asked me where do I see myself in 100 years. I replied I'm dead and so are you! I walked out of the interview after they said that. I laughed and knew I wasn't going to work for that employer.
Just so happened to have a question similar to this within recent. (They were asking what my career goals are/what role I want.) I liked the framework of the approach you laid out and can definitely see myself using that in the future. Thanks for posting, Jeff!
Yes! "What are your career goals" and "Where do you see yourself in 5 / 10 years" questions are basically asking the same thing. Sure thing Mike, let me know if you do get a chance to use it soon :)
Totally digging your videos. I'm sure they'll help me in my search. For this one, however, I think that if, like me, one has fewer years ahead in one's career than behind, it's reasonable to suggest that you'd want to stay for 5 years and beyond. The honest answer that I wouldn't say out loud in an interview is that yeah, I'm looking to put down roots. I just want to be good at my job and provide value, and enjoy doing it until I retire. This is the place I think I can do that. I'm honestly not particularly driven toward the next great thing. I kinda just want peace while still paying the bills. In five years, I hope I'm still here doing just that.
In five years, I picture myself working for (company name here) having earned at least one promotion, if seen fit. If I don't have a promotion, I will work in the same department with more responsibilities. Additionally, I will pass my knowledge and wisdom that I have in the department I work for to help train new employees who enter into this and any other similar role.
Wow this comment made my day! Thanks Andy 😁😁, glad the content translated well to "real life" use cases! Let me know how it goes, is it for a business position?
@@JeffSu it's for an analytic position. I think your tips work very well regardless of the roles. Thanks a lot for doing this btw. Your channel deserves way more attention. Great & useful contents, witty humor, nice relaxing background lightning/music. Keep it up, Jeff!
i know how to answer this question but the only problem is how to say it in English proficiently :) but i will do my very best to come up with an striking response. Thanks
Hi Jeff! Great video! I've been binge watching your "Common Interview Questions & Answers" video playlist for my internship application. I just wanted to ask how the Specific to Broad Structure would be modified if it's 10 years instead of 5. Thank you in advance and more power to you! :)
Hi Elaine! Glad to hear you're watching the playlist, hope you won't get too tired of my voice :). The formula itself won't change. Even if you change the "years" to 4 years, 16 years, 23 years, the idea stays the same: you always want to go from a short-term plan to a longer term "vision" to show your thought process. Best of luck!
Hi Jeff, thank you for all your videos and knowledge you are sharing. While watching your tips and tricks, I've noticed that they are not only useful for interviews when you want to get the job but also for performance evaluation meetings where one should clearly state their needs, value to the company, and career plans. Now I feel like in fact every year I have a job interview with my line manager and my teammates ;) Maybe I should take some of your suggestions for interview as also tips for the yearly performance review. Do you have any thoughts about that? maybe if you have different opinion you could share with us your suggestions how to prepare to the performance review. I rememeber that my first one was very stressful as I didnt know how to prepare and what is expected from me. cheers
Hello Jeff! Thank you for EXISTING and creating this UA-cam channel. I've already heard most of the tips you share but the way you present it just makes it so actionable, and indeed I'm preparing for an important interview coming up on Friday 🤞 Regarding this specific question, do you think is it still valid today? The pandemic changed a lot the way people and companies view the world, and everyone feels more uncertain so it even feels surreal to ask what will you do in 5 years, we don't even know how the world will change in a year from now. Moreover, most job positions in the tech/humanitarian sector are temporary (from 6 to 12 months), so how can we more realistically manage that question in that case? Thank you!
I think you already gave the perfect answer Sara! Mention how the pandemic made things (even) more uncertain but it doesn't change your career goals (which hopefully doesn't depend on the pandemic)
Hey jeff. I hope you are well. I love your videos. I just saw your video about the greatest weakness and you didn't add an example in it. So, I was wondering if you could make a video with an example , if you don't mind. thanks.
Watching your videos is helpful for a fresh graduate like me. And I have a question here. What would you answer if they ask, "What you will do if you have another year in university?" Looking forward to your answers.
Glad to hear it Abby! The answer really depends on which company is asking, what your own goals are, and whether that additional year will help you land a role/job in the industry you're interested in :)
@@JeffSu Appreciate your reply. I wanted to apply for front-end development jobs, but what I've learned in uni is not professional enough for the job application. I'm a little late to find out I'm passionate about this field. Any further advice you would have for me will be much appreciated.
Love this series of videos on interview questions, I find them super useful! Got my final round of interview tomorrow and hopefully I can use things learnt from your videos! 😁 I also follow you on 小红书 too!
