I have an ‘07 Lariat, with all the power accessories. There were a few differences I’d like to share. First, the tweeter (extra speaker in the top of the door panel) didn’t make a difference really. Second, there were 4 plugs in the power panel; they were all idiot proof, so only fit into the opposite plug. Super easy. Last, for whatever reason as I took the door handle out it was NOT willing to break free. Getting it unhooked meant reaching up into the door and undoing an alligator clip keeping it in. This was a great starting point though! Gave me the major steps, so I could handle the actuator replacement! Thanks, 1A!
There is an easier method to release and remove the old electrical actuator from the door latch mechanism. You can shave off about half your time with this replacement and save disassembly. If you look at the door latch mechanism before pulling it out of the door you can see a narrow slot. At time 2:07 your knuckle is about an inch or so below the slot. You can push in a thin blade screw driver into this slot which will release that catch on the mechanism that you are struggling to balance at time 5:40. When the catch is pushed on then the actuator can slide off the mechanism and then out of the car door. I could send you a picture of the slot I am talking about if that will help to better understand what I am referring to. Once you press on that actuator retainer tab through the slot then you can slide the actuator off. The actuator can only slide one direction to be removed because the other way is where it mates with the slot for the lock actuator. When reinstalling the new actuator, be conscious of the actuator pin, it must go into the locking mechanism slot or it won't function properly.
Great video, thank you! After watching this video I ordered the part for my 2004 F150 FX4 (with keypad access) and was able to completely disassemble my door and get the actuator out...only to find out that I had the wrong part! My actuator has two (2) plugs on it so I have since ordered another actuator (Dorman 746-163). Hopefully this is the correct one for my truck! I'm sure I will be re-viewing this video on Wednesday when my part gets here! Thanks again!

Can you do a video on how to repair a rear door which will not open at all on a 2002 ford pickup or send me any information on how to repair it. Thanks.
My 04 f150 will lock with the passenger side lock switch then the driver's door will unlock but its self 2 seconds later. The drivers door power lock switch doesn't work I e replaced it still doesn't work?
Also this door ajar alarm is very irritating at night, because even though my doors are manual. The sensor on the latch not only controls the door ajar alarm, but also turns the cab light on and off.
Unfortunatly I had some issues. The door actuator does not work and now the radio will stay on after the key has been removed. The video was helpful though.
Not helpful started removal while watching the video. Once the door panel and plastic was off everything went sideways. My 2007 Ford F150 has manual locks, but still has the sensor on the latch to let you know that the door is ajar. It's not just the video though, because even auto zone sold me the actuator that's in your video. The latch mechanism in my F150 DOES NOT have an actuator on it like that. It's all mechanical with the push/pull bars and just has a little sensor on the end of it to plug into. I'm pretty pissed off right now. Especially since I told auto zone that it had MANUAL LOCKS, that means no power. You have to push the lock in on both doors if you want it to be secure. It would be extremely helpful to let people know at the begin of the video that there is a difference. I apologize to you right now if you where unaware of this. You might want to research this on your own to see the difference. There were several things that were tooled quite differently than on the video. Now please excuse me, I have to put my door back together now in a dark driveway. Since the sun has already set, because the video didn't simplify much for me. On the plus side, I did find that water had gotten down into the wiring for the sensor. So I'm going to dry it out the best that I can. Hopefully that will fix my problem (my problem being that the door would be closed and latched also would lock and unlock fine but the door ajar alarm would periodically go off and on even after opening and shutting the door again).

Thank you! Very helpful video👍
If your asking how to convert manual door locks to power, we don't have a video that shows you how to do that.
The plastic sheet is a weather barrier so it is recommended that you replace that with a new one or secure the original on back into place.
It seems strange to have a “weather barrier” on the ‘inside’ of the door.
The rest of the truck just rusts away.
You may be able to put a little bit of white lithium grease on them to keep them moving freely. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Excellent Video. Thanks for the Help. I fixed my 2006 F150 door lock today. I had a manual door, so there was less to work on.

If there's power going to the actuator and it's not popping, it may be the actuator that is has gone bad.
Do you have a video on how to replace the door jamb switch? I know its right where the latch is, but I don't really know how to remove and replace it.
Hi my 2004 f150 passenger side door won't open from inside, what are think is the problem thanks I will appreciate it
You could try your local Ford Dealer.
What is the green piece called? Ours is broken and needs replaced, but I don't know the name!
You may want to try your local dealer to see if they can get a replacement one for you. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Great video and details. Thank you
how do I know if the actuator is actually bad? I hear it moving when I hit the switch but nothing happens.

Um... The rods just magically disengage when you pull off the outer handel? And reattach when you put it back?
I have a 2000 Ford F-150 and the rear sliding window weather stripping is gone.. where can I find some more weather striping?
