I made a software package with practical applications and donated it as “shareware” to the public domain. When asked by my employer’s legal team and my management why I would spend many thousands of hours writing computer code only “give it away” I said truthfully, because my reward is what I am able to learn. They were baffled, had I tried to market it clearly they might have attempted to stop me, but unlike high level scientists in their employment they had not bothered to compel people at my level to sign an agreement that if we dream anything on our free time related to their commercial interests in the remotest way, then they own it. After me, “all employees” had to sign an agreement because “to dream and to learn” might have commercial value. What they did was formulate an in-house team of scientists and engineers and begin to develop their own computer simulation tools, excluding me of course. They did a small fraction of what I had accomplished before losing interest, but banned my “shareware” from company use and made it plain, they were not happy with me. Maybe something like the double-pistol grip on the Mossberg M-1100 P? Obviously it would still need a stock for aiming stability, but you'd get increased grip from having a decent sized handle that can be dragged back, snagging the string on both sides (say a double-hook setup). Maybe even internalize it, have it run on rails. Of course you'll need a snap-in mechanism when it's in the full-forward position to "lock" it in place and provide stability. Maybe released by a smaller trigger on the forward grip? Yes, I love weapons. The current build is extremely impressive, and these are just the requested hypotheses on improving an already great design.
If you want to use electrical ratchets for stuff like this, you could integrate a some sort of pulley mechanism into the winch. You could easily half the force needed when using some sort of gearbox
Hmm, that's not really a suitable solution, since it would put too much stress on the teeth. High impact on smaller (and therefore thinner and less sturdy) teeth would wear them out too much in the long run. Using impulsive forces is not suitable for other reasons as well, since it would probably be unpleasant if the crossbow was rattling or vibrating instead of smoothly winding up. Another advantage of a pulley mechanism is that smaller, less powerful electrical motors could be used, since they would not have to be as strong as the ratchet.
Bravo! You are the Leonardo da Vinci of crossbows, Sir! Seriously! I can’t wait to see how you improve and perfect your design. If I were wealthy, we would already be in the testing phase and about to send our first models to market.
M.f.G.Niko
I really want one of those. You should go into production. You would sell a lot of them to lunatics like me, 😄 ... Secondly... Damn Joerg. You're looking fit and healthy my friend. It looks like you dropped 10-15 kilos. But you look like you not only kept the muscle, but added to it. Keep up the good work, and the great vids. And if you do decide to sell one or two of those crazy crossbows. Let me know 😄
Is this the future crossbow? If you take the inside of a battery operated drill apart you could most likely get it integrated into the stock, also only have it hold 3 bolts, and integrate the rope on the outside into the stock forearm, make the crank silent, skeletonize the stock, make it out of aluminium, and make the whole thing around 6.5 pounds. You've been challenged. Love your videos!! Oh maybe trick the whole thing out with realtree camo. You should team up with Excalibur crossbows and make in a micro version that shoots 350 fps.
It is as powerful as I want it to be. More power only destroy the arrows. If I wanted more power, I'd just buy a different limb. Like an Excalibur 400 limb with 280 lb.
So you made that? I like it. It looks elegant even though it looks robust and heavy, the way it works is smooth and the cocking system is brilliant and easy. And you provide the option of tools to make it easy, the ratchet so one doesn't have to spin it in circles, but if one uses a simple wrench it can be done quietly and without the need for electricity or solar panels to charge or run the electric tools.
I wonder if a pneumatic cylinder would have enough force to push (pull) the sled. Was thinking about two long cylinder and a paintball co2 tank. Then do the two step trigger, one step would release the air from the cylinder to move the sled back into neutral position and second stage would fire the bolt.
Exodarion I think copyrights and patents are fine imagine if you invented your own thing and some other random person saw it and copied the same product, would you be a happy fellow?
That's a naive approach. Most "inventors" like Edison and Bell were just idea thieves. They used patents to actually steal the inventions for themselves. Colleges were forced to put part of their budget to register locally done work to combat this.
Please tell me theres someway to commision some work from you Joerg im truly astounded by that crossbow. Id happily pay for one to be shipped to the UK if you ever go into production
Rupert, I have no time for custom made products. I am a UA-camr, not a weapon maker. But I am sure you can find plenty of good carpenters who can build one for you.
JoergSprave completly understand im sure given time to create and edit content your kept very busy. You maybe should consider making a few pieces aome people consider these items more of an art than a weapon. Unique items like that hold alot of value just look at some of the rufus hussey slingshots that are for sale now. Maybe an option could be to create a pay to view channel that includes creation videos and blueprints of your designs. Im sure theres lots of fans thatd be happy to try some of your amazing designs
+JoergSprave Hello, I am also very interested in some of your designs. However, I am not a carpenter, so I don't know if one who watches your videos gets enough input to know exactly how you did this and that. Would you think someone watching your videos and having your skills can rebuild the stuff? And if not, would you consider publicing your blueprints, as the designs are open for the public domain? Waaa this is a really amazing crossbow , why don't you team with a cross bow company to make one ? That way you won't have to deal with lawyer and you still make some money. Like to make him see please
Wow, you really think that I put this comment on here to get likes? As far as UA-cam statistics are concerned, the number of likes on a comment is the most meaningless statistic on the site. I never asked for likes anyway. It's not like the likes on my comment degrade from the likes on yours; it's not a finite resource. It just shows that 94 people thought my comment was funny/insightful/enjoyable, etc.
Joerg, this is I genius, one thing I'd like to see more about is being able to reload 6 crossbows quickly and efficiently, preferably more than one at a time, would be better if you could somehow connect bolts so you can put in bundles of 6 at a time! Also, I'm guessing with a larger turning point, the crossbow would winch a lot faster, so this can be improved upon even more! Honestly you've blown my mind, this has so much potential!
nice work Joerg . i hunt with an excalibur recurve cross bow. i think i can shoot about as fast as this cross bow you made but without the ratchet noise . great for home protection but too noisey for hunting .
This is awesome!!! That's the closest thing I've seen to the crossbow in from dusk till dawn... only it was a pump action... the pump action set the string and reloaded the bolt... bravo friend!!! Mass market it I would buy!!!!
The "Head" of the crossbow screams to be painted with a hippo head (cartoon style) :) And did you think about making the cocking mechanism driven by compressed air? Or by steam. Like mounting an esbit cooker with a water tank on the crossbow. And by opening the vent, a sled, powered like the launchers on an aircraft carrier, cocks the crossbow. Would be quite a show too.
GadgetInspektor The mechanism would have to use an electric motor because an electric motor is generally 90% efficient. Steam and other heat difference based designs on the scale of that cross bow can be no more than 30% efficient. This is just from the laws of physics.
I thought exactly the same. But I think this would work. Imagine this channel monetized and with ads all the time. I believe he has a real well paid profession, because he really speeks fluently english, is ingenious like whom ever and further he has his hesrt on the right place.

Mit einer elektrischen Winde wäre es m.E. noch besser
Or he just needs more teeth on the wheel. If one impact from the ratchet is able to get past one tooth, then it wouldn't spin back.
M.f.G.Niko
Nikolai Lansky Yes.
It fire too fast and it is both black and tactical.
This is an assault crossbow!
I am reporting you to the Stasi.
Nothing is Safety in Killing!!! Hahaha
Dont you mean sissy
Auto cock it with CO2
That mosquito just bit me. And the ratchet should be attached. Amazing creation.
Let me know 😄
MegaSkyline69 lindo trabalho
Jörg, not Joerg :)
I'll bet his kids and grandkids love having him around. They won't want any crap presents of Amazon etc., when pops can build stuff like this.
Das Crossbow. German engineering. 😊
Die Armbrust ,) But close enough
Glen Toman German makes the best stuff better than the USA
*"...and I'll show you it's features."
I just love that phrase.
leo
burglars hate it
I still can't fail to be impressed by your brilliance at design and functionality.
You're an amazing person.. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
My depression is temporarily lifted each time this guy laughs
Wow Professor Crossbow Joerg Eisntein
How powerfull can crossbows get?
real expensive commercial ones get around 500 fps. Sub $1000 can get you in the lower 400's I think
time to go oversize :)
Monkey Poundage usually ranges from 250-1000 lbs. of force.
It is as powerful as I want it to be. More power only destroy the arrows. If I wanted more power, I'd just buy a different limb. Like an Excalibur 400 limb with 280 lb.
JoergSprave Yeah, the lower power does help with the quicker and easier reloading, which was the point.
I love this guy's laugh.
You are amazing....can't like your videos enough.
I wonder if a pneumatic cylinder would have enough force to push (pull) the sled. Was thinking about two long cylinder and a paintball co2 tank. Then do the two step trigger, one step would release the air from the cylinder to move the sled back into neutral position and second stage would fire the bolt.
You are an amazing genius Joerg.Bless you
..watching from Kenya.
Joerg i love that you hate patents, i also hate patents and copyrights
I also love your brilliant arrow launching inventions
Exodarion I think copyrights and patents are fine imagine if you invented your own thing and some other random person saw it and copied the same product, would you be a happy fellow?
That's a naive approach. Most "inventors" like Edison and Bell were just idea thieves. They used patents to actually steal the inventions for themselves. Colleges were forced to put part of their budget to register locally done work to combat this.
zwz • zdenek your examples are not very good ones to defend the subject though
S ogekingler And why is that?
The video should be titled "German extremist teaches terrorists how to make crossbows of mass destruction!" lol, just kidding. Awesome work Joerg!
Formidable Foe
And he didn't even patent it so the terrorists can use it without getting sued :/
Yea because a criminal totally cares about patent laws.
not a funny joke in my opinion.
randomNstupid
Do you know the DailyMail story about Jörg? They actually claimed that he is teaching terrorists with his videos :P
randomNstupid Thats cuz you're stupid to be honest
What a great guy, more power to you my man, good luck with all your future projects and thanks for sharing with us mortals...
+JoergSprave
Hello, I am also very interested in some of your designs. However, I am not a carpenter, so I don't know if one who watches your videos gets enough input to know exactly how you did this and that. Would you think someone watching your videos and having your skills can rebuild the stuff? And if not, would you consider publicing your blueprints, as the designs are open for the public domain?

where can i find plans for this crossbow?
I don't think you get it. He isn't doing this to make money, he's doing what he enjoys.
Please put the blueprints for the good crossbow online
He does not make any Blueprints
I'd gladly pay for a set of plans for this or even a kit that included all the non wooden parts and diagrams for the wooden pieces.
That's amazing .this guys really knows is his stuff . I would love to see it when it's totally done
Waaa this is a really amazing crossbow , why don't you team with a cross bow company to make one ? That way you won't have to deal with lawyer and you still make some money.
Like to make him see please
But the company that makes it will likely want a patent or something so that it can't have competitors. That's my guess though, I'm not sure
Integrate the motor man! I challenge you!
Joerg , exudes integrity ...what a lovely guy!
did u know you are a genius
I'm so early that the video is broken :P
LazerLord10 how is it broken
No safety measures - This is why it's broken.
But safety is boring.
wouldnt think you would be here XD
_I'm everywhere and nowhere bayby..._
Honestly you've blown my mind, this has so much potential!
we need a tutorial on that!
Peter Wimmelwutz bruce lee was a hack
nice work Joerg . i hunt with an excalibur recurve cross bow. i think i can shoot about as fast as this cross bow you made but without the ratchet noise . great for home protection but too noisey for hunting .
This is awesome!!! That's the closest thing I've seen to the crossbow in from dusk till dawn... only it was a pump action... the pump action set the string and reloaded the bolt... bravo friend!!! Mass market it I would buy!!!!
The "Head" of the crossbow screams to be painted with a hippo head (cartoon style) :)
And did you think about making the cocking mechanism driven by compressed air? Or by steam. Like mounting an esbit cooker with a water tank on the crossbow. And by opening the vent, a sled, powered like the launchers on an aircraft carrier, cocks the crossbow. Would be quite a show too.
GadgetInspektor The mechanism would have to use an electric motor because an electric motor is generally 90% efficient. Steam and other heat difference based designs on the scale of that cross bow can be no more than 30% efficient. This is just from the laws of physics.
Some clever design there, nice :-)
You're my new hero!
Great design and workmanship.
Mass produce that crossbow, you will be rich!
I thought exactly the same. But I think this would work. Imagine this channel monetized and with ads all the time. I believe he has a real well paid profession, because he really speeks fluently english, is ingenious like whom ever and further he has his hesrt on the right place.
@@scherenschnitt6333 I think he is an engineer or something like that, he has a shop where he sells crossvows and stuff and he even invented some modifications that were implemented on popular crossbows like the cobra adder
He said in a vid he is not an engineer and has no engineering background he also said he doesnt want money from his designs and he also did do UA-cam full time for a long time but no longer does
I would buy one if he did if it wasn't too overpriced
