Do you NEED to? No. Should you know? Yes! For instance, growing up I watched and saw a bunch of girls put their hair up before playing basketball (sports family). So I always had shorter hair, don't have a use for knowing how to do a ponytail. COVID-19 comes along (I'm 30) and BAM! my hair is so long I have to have it in a ponytail. Easy peasy just went out for some hairties and kinda suprised myself at how fast a half-decent one turned out. All because I paid attention and had a rudimentary idea of how to do a ponytail. So one day you're sitting on your own porch. If you don't have one, maybe you will have one. I never thought I'd have one but I got a nice apartment porch with ACTUAL FURNITURE. Well you're bringing out an extra chair because your friend is coming over when you notice that the bolt holding the steel frame is coming loose! Oh. No problem, just got to the closet where you (or whoever you are with) keep tohe tools. Five minutes later* your chair is perfectly fine and you both can enjoy your patio. No need to bring a mismatched chair or a bulky chair out, or not have lunch on the sunny patio today. Small, tiny situations where you knowing how to use a tool can fix it right away. Eventually something happens like your living room fan spins slowly. Instead of throwing it out, you just grab some screwdrivers (ice trays are amazing to hold screws) and take the fan apart to the motor, realize it was clogged with hair and dust, put it all back together and your fan is working perfectly. That was last week for me, saved a $30 fan purchase. Long message I know but EDUCATION IS NEVER WASTED :D *(because you forgot to put the socket back last time properly you had to search for it))
Ugh, there is a lever! I have never been able to figure out why my ratchet doesn't seem to work. Seems like I should have figured that one out. Thanks Dad!

I bet he would even wait patiently while I get the screwdriver....no, not that screwdriver, the OTHER one. I hope young dads watch him to learn how to treat their kids!!!!!
24 yr old single mama here lost my dad when I was a toddler, never really had a father figure. And my daughter’s dad & I had an ugly split and he doesn’t seem to wanna help me unless he benefits in some way. Much less when I need help with something mechanical. I wasn’t listening to your video at first bc I was struggling and fighting back tears over not being able to figure out this dang reversible ratchet. Ready to toss is in the garbage and take my car to a mechanic. But your voice was calming enough to get me to gather myself enough to listen and figure it out. I was ready to start sobbing I was sure it would’ve made me feel a lot better but after finally figuring it out I can’t describe what I’m feeling atm. Beyond relieved is definitely one way to describe it. All this trouble just to change a low beam on a terribly engineered car. Thank you so much for this! ❤️
SAME!! I also came here to learn how to use a socket wrench. I was able to change the low beam bulb but now can't put the coolant reserve tank back in it's slot, so now I gotta pull out the stinking battery!! (2006 Honda Civic)

It’s funny, now that I am older and know a few more things about tools, I get this thought process that I know how they work. I’m reality I spent time sitting around my friends dads garage just messing with stuff. Watching these videos makes me feel more solid on that knowledge, and has taught me a few things too. Hey, rob, I hope you're in good health, because I'm healthy here, and watching your youtube of losing my dad when I was young makes me not even realize how much tears I can't see myself, because I left my dad when I was young. It's hard to live an unprotected life called the first hero of all girls, I've lived with my mother through life's hardships, my school all through my grandfather he was my great grandfather in the world It was smashed to pieces, and now I'm an adult I make a living for myself and my mom, but it's still hard because we had to walk around encouraging each other to keep us going, i hope you stay healthy, staysafe & happy.

I discovered this channel through a link in Facebook to an article about the man. I am 14 and it’s been a long time since I had a father figure, because my mom and dad did not go on with their marriage because of problems. Don’t get me wrong my dad was a good man, I still had fond memories of us going to the arcade or going to Mcdonalds to eat for lunch. It’s been I think 6 or 7 years since I last saw him personally, now he is somewhere abroad and surprisingly with no new family, because he still wants to go back with my mother for the sake of me. But that is now too late as now I have a step-dad, he is also a good man too but I just dont feel comfortable with him, he taught me how to do weightlifting and that’s pretty much it, and the fact that he is a Seaman that is in a boat for the entirety of the year does not help. Pretty much now I learn the manly things from my own like shaving, etc. from the internet or youtube. I even just learnt how to tie my shoelaces 2 years ago by myself. So I am very thankful that someone out there in the world does things like this, it make me cry. I am posting this at every recent video so that he notices or atleast someone notices

I am fortnuate enough both my parents are supportive and present, but this will still be incredibly useful since I want to move to the US and your DIY culture is much more prevalent than here (I know basically nothing about tools), and something inherently American. Knowing the names of the tools and how to use them will save me a ton of time when I become a dad and start building my own stuff too, so again, THANK YOU!

I’m gonna tell my two boys (14&21) to watch your videos as their dad never teaches them anything and they always goes to him, but they may need to know how someday.
Thanks for making this video! I didn't get around to learning this until age 48 (age I am now) and used regular wrenches up until this point. I lost my father when I was 20 (before the internet became huge), and had to learn nearly everything on my own since-- much of it through guesswork. Some things, of course, are quite difficult to figure out through guesswork, and that's where this channel becomes so helpful and valuable. Bravo!

I discovered this channel through a link in Facebook to an article about the man. I am 14 and it’s been a long time since I had a father figure, because my mom and dad did not go on with their marriage because of problems. Don’t get me wrong my dad was a good man, I still had fond memories of us going to the arcade or going to Mcdonalds to eat for lunch. It’s been I think 6 or 7 years since I last saw him personally, now he is somewhere abroad and surprisingly with no new family, because he still wants to go back with my mother for the sake of me. But that is now too late as now I have a step-dad, he is also a good man too but I just dont feel comfortable with him, he taught me how to do weightlifting and that’s pretty much it, and the fact that he is a Seaman that is in a boat for the entirety of the year does not help. Pretty much now I learn the manly things from my own like shaving, etc. from the internet or youtube. I even just learnt how to tie my shoelaces 2 years ago by myself. So I am very thankful that someone out there in the world does things like this, it make me cry. I am posting this at every recent video so that he notices or atleast someone notices
Hey, I just want to say thank you for this series. I am fortnuate enough both my parents are supportive and present, but this will still be incredibly useful since I want to move to the US and your DIY culture is much more prevalent than here (I know basically nothing about tools), and something inherently American. Knowing the names of the tools and how to use them will save me a ton of time when I become a dad and start building my own stuff too, so again, THANK YOU!

I’m gonna tell my two boys (14&21) to watch your videos as their dad never teaches them anything and they always goes to him, but they may need to know how someday.

Thanks for making this video! I didn't get around to learning this until age 48 (age I am now) and used regular wrenches up until this point. I lost my father when I was 20 (before the internet became huge), and had to learn nearly everything on my own since-- much of it through guesswork. Some things, of course, are quite difficult to figure out through guesswork, and that's where this channel becomes so helpful and valuable. Bravo!
