I'm watching this cuz' I'm 24 and my dad promised to hang a shelf in my bedroom.
It has been 12 years now.
Lol. I absolutely understand this. I need to pay handyman for putting up any selves, that’s enough, I am here to watch this video, while watching, my mind is about how many shelves I am going to hang up !!
Hahaha so relatable
Me too
Relatable 😂 That happened to me, so one day me and my mom decided to figure it out ourselves. My dad walks by and is like, "Wait, wait, no not like that!! Let me show you." So if you want dad to finally get to it, just start drilling 😂
Lol I don't know if laugh or cry
Boyfriend: “come here”
Me: “Hold on my dads teaching me how to hang a shelf”
This comment sent me 😂😂
i'm dead💀💀

Would be great for you to develop a “Dad Box” of tools for homowners.
Lost my dad in November’23 and I’m just so grateful this channel is here. My dad has so many tools so now it’s time for me learn how to use them ❤️
Man, as a daddy’s girl....this makes me emotional that you’re kind enough to think of the other people who may need “dadvice”. YOU ROCK
I lost my dad a year ago. And I really appreciate this internet dad. Man I miss my pops. May he Rest In Peace. Learn something new everyday. :) Thank you. ❤️🙏🏽

Just a little..."dadvice".
You're just, the best.
no no no Ikrr
why am i crying about a video on how to hang a shelf
I’m right there with you, Buddy. Very thankful for this wholesome, quality content
Thank god I'm not the only one crying over this.
Honestly same here.
Happy im not the only one crying too
I dont have a good relationship with mine and this wholesome content just destroys me
I'm 54, I may be older than "Dad". Mine taught me things when I was younger & he wasn't on a bender. I lost him when I was 16. There were lots of things left to learn. After a really nasty divorce & being homeless for 3 years, I've finally bought a place with no idea how to seed a yard or how to fix the pond & lake the workers made in my front & back yard, or install a fence. Thanks for being here for everyone.
Watching this because my dad promised to help me put up shelves and hang up my mirror over a year ago. Doing it myself now. Thanks.
Hey man, I lost my dad when I was 15 years old, and this I gotta say this simple movie about hanging up a shelf kind of really touched me. Thank you so much for this, you warning me to not put holes in an apt wall before asking my landlord is the kind of dadvice I need in my life..

Fathers this is why you should never underestimate or question your role in your child's life. You play a very important part especially during their growing up years.
And father's also need to need to not question or underestimate their children as well. My dad "tried" to show me how to do things. But he is so impatient and such a sociopath, spending any amount of time "doing stuff" with him was pure agony. He still holds on to that age old delusional belief of "i?know I sometimes treat you the way that i do, but only because I want you to be happy..." what does that even mean???
It took me years to figure this out, but I really believe that he was actually trying to ruin my sister and I. He hated seeing us think and behave like intelligent independent people. And he had little ways of.... it was like certain comments he would make that made me almost feel a sense of embarrassment for growing up... very bizzarre!!! So manipulative on a different level
And why all of that??? I figured out that it was as simple as when he grew too old to do for himself, he would (hopefully) have us around to be his servants. Over the years he would make jokes about goin deer hunting when he was old and in a wheelchair. He would ask if I would push him through the woods in his wheelchair and then chain him to a tree so he wouldn't go rolling down over the hill, and then laugh...
But years later... I realize that not a word of that was a joke. That was part of the manipulation. The humor and jokes used to sugar coat what were actually real details of his Utopia of a retirement. As I got much older, he would blow my phone up if I didn't answer, then leave a 20 minute long voice-mail saying things along the lines of "what if I was calling because I needed you to call an ambulance for me???? How would you like it if you did t hear from me for 2 weeks and then one day you came to the house and found me laying there all black looking and bloated with maggots all over me??? How would that make you feel??? You need to answer your phone when I call!!!"
Uuugh I haven't spoken to him in 7 years and good riddance to him. He made me look so bad over the years
My friend told me about you. I'm 15 and my father left me and my mom when I was 4. I haven't seen him for a decade now and I don't want to. Thank you for making these videos. You have no idea how it helps me (and my mom).

My dad passed away a few years back, so I really really appreciate this channel. Thank you :)
I am sorry to hear you lost your dad Danielle, glad I could help. :0)
My father passed away a few years back too, he taught me so much about car maintence, home repair etc. My parents separated when I was a toddler so I've always kind of been the "man" of the house. I find myself forgetting some of the things hes taught me, so I've been writing them down in a little scrapbook. I know it sounds silly but it's even sillier to break down at 4am when you're trying to remember where the studs are in the walls, I couldn't remember that it was supposed to be 16 and a half inches on center and lost it lol. It's a good way to remember the little things like that and I highly reccomend it. anytime something pops into my head that hes taught me I go write it down. I'm sorry about the loss of your father and I hope these videos bring you as much joy as they do me 💖
My dad passed when I was 16. So I really appreciate this channel as well. I’ve found that so few people know how to do these things. My friend taught me how to use a drill just a few months ago.
I lost my dad back in 2017 who taught me some basics but he was our Mr. Fix It and I used to call him for simple things I needed help with just to talk to him randomly. Thank you for these videos.
Totally can relate! Mine past away 9 yrs ago and almost every day I think what would dad do now and how 😕....this feels good to learn it as a "dadvice" not only by a regular tutorial video. It feels comforting 🥰
Hi "Dad", video suggestion: "How to put curtain rods without a drill". THANKS a lot!
Hi! I'm not a dad but I know that curtains are very heavy, however it isn't much different from putting up a shelf without a drill. Make sure you have a stud finder, as you do not want to be guessing on where a window frame truly is due to shoddy workmanship or weird design. Might be overkill but why not be sure this isn't one of those weird times.
Absolutely work with a helper. Make sure any chair or step-stool is on an even, safe surface and not too short. Use a ladder if you have to feel safe, better safe than stupid. Work from left side to right side as well. This way you don't miss steps. Left side, right side adjustment to it. If you try to adjust to much on both sides, you'l be all over the place. My steps will deal with putting up a three piece curtain rod (ie two seperate brackets and a rod) and not some all-in-one adjustable package.
You need a level, screwdriver, pencil, stud finder, stepstool/ladder/chair (two if wanted),
1) Measure - Find and mark the studs. Find out where on the left side you'd like to place the bracket, use a pencil in the holes to mark it. Feel free to be messy, it's a pencil, just be clear. Get the curtain rod and the helper to place the right side bracket on the wall near where you'd like it. Put the rod on the brackets and using a level on the rod, adjust the right hand side up or down until the rod is level. Then mark the holes on the right hand side. Dad does the same with the shelf in this video.
2) Screw Holes - Yeah this is going to suck because you don't have a drill. However this can be done with willpower. You take a screw and just screw in that pilot hole like Dad did above for the shelf. However you are not a power drill with horsepower and torque, but it's going to be done anyways. You get a screw, and just screw that screw into the wall by hand. Please do not hurt yourself. If you for some reason have a smaller screw, use that to make the first hole, THEN use the appropriate screw to make the hole. A HAND drill can be purchased on the cheap almost everywhere, or found in thrift shops. However you can also pick up drills on Craigslist for C H E A P from businesses that went out or people who upgraded. I went from Black and Decker to DeWalt, and sold my old drill for ten bucks, some even give for free. B&D is good enough for most new peeps and small projects, DeWalt means you give it to your grandkids in your will because it will last that long.
3) Mount - Pop in the brackets and rod with however it works. Every model is slightly different but it should be inherent. Because you got teh holes, you don't need to work hard to get screws in. Because you levelled, the curtain is not uneven. Because you marked the studs, it won't fall!
Good luck!
Yes please!
Yes!! I would love to learn.

You've got this! It takes time but you'll be a DIY master in no time! It's a great feeling being able to fix things in your own house on your own. Love to ya!
Everybody, there is a lot to learn. Please don't get discouraged.
I think many people are missing this 1 on 1 time that isn't yelling, frustration, emberesmbent and patience from their parents. So when people see you explain things so flawlessly without judgment or frustration it's extremely comforting. You make it feel ok to mess up without the unnecessary ridicule. Make a mistake? Try again. And it's as simple as that. Thank you!
I lost my dad last year tragically. This is the first time since losing him I've needed this channel. He had his own electrical company. Thank you for this.

I’m 21 and my dad and I never really had a relationship. I’m about to get my own place so thank you so much I appreciate it
You're honestly a saint. My father Passed away back in 01 when I was 7. My mom did a wonderful job raising us all by her self, to me she's the greatest person in the world and I don't think she could've done a better job. However most of my life growing up I feel like a missed out on a lot of the interactions that a son should have with their dad. I was lucky I had a decently big family so a lot of my uncles and grandfather really did step up to try to recreate those interaction so I could get some of that fatherly guidance in life. I know not every kid out there has that same fortune I did and may only belong to a small family or just has no male figures around. You're a bastion of hope for these individuals, for the kids that would never had any of this guidance were it for you. I'm going on 26 this year and I never would've know for the life of me on how to put up a shelf, or unclog my tub . The amount of confidence you can stow up on an individual by taking that fatherly figure approach with these videos is is miraculous and I hope nothing stops you in this endeavor. :)
Dude, you're such a Dad. So genuine. And I can say, I knew you when.

What so many "how-to" videos miss is that we are looking for this on youtube because we have no idea where to start. I was one of the lucky few kids that got adopted, out of the foster system, so I have an amazing dad now. However, I was 15 when I got my dad and I still remember what it's like not having one. I'm already a subscriber but I'm gonna make an effort to watch and like every video so that anyone who wasn't as lucky gets to keep seeing a positive male role model in their home and their life. Congrats on the new house! My girl and I are celebrating our one year in our house, and it’s been an experience!
TheRealWallyWest that such an exciting milestone! Congrats to you two! 😁
If you go into straight drywall, you need to use a drywall anchor. You predrill a whole recommend for the size anchor and screw you're going to use. Then you tap the anchor in with a hammer lightly, and then you can screw whatever you're hanging into the anchor and it should hold unless its is really heavy.
I can definitely relate to the purpose of these videos. Im 23 and thank you man all these videos will help me once I get my house sooner this year!
Thank you for putting these up, my father was 10 the last time I saw him, that was 34 years ago, he's still alive but has no interest, and my stepfather never liked me and he wanted nothing to do with me, haven't seen him in 10 plus years when him and my mother finally divorced. I ended up learning to do things out of books in the library and because I simply wanted to know and be independent. Glad to see there's someone out there looking out for kids today whose fathers have no interest in.

I will find much nicer boyfriend & wont feel trapped anymore lol
The way you phrase that we women need men was unnecessary. Though I won’t hold it against you because it’s probably the way you were raised to belive. I see this pattern in older people who were sadly not taught that there is no man or woman job everyone regardless of gender needs to learn basic life skills time is moving on and our society is making moves to show that anyone can and will need to eventually learn stuff like this.

Never had a father figure in my life. My “dad” was never apart of my life. I didn’t have anyone to show me these things. Thank you so much for all of your videos.
Well sir you taught me more in 20:13 than my dad has in 32 years. I sincerely appreciate these videos, there are a lot of us out here who never had this kid of “Dadvice” keep it up!!
My mom did her best to teach me about tools and handy work but it’s different from a dad. You are changing peoples lives one bit of dadvice at a time, thank you❤️🙌🏼 hope you don’t mind but you are now my UA-cam dad 💡🙌🏼 thanks a lot for the instructions 💯
From a girl whose dad walked out on her , you and your advice are cherished ! 😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
My Dad passed away 6 months ago and your videos are helping me a lot!! Thank you so so much!!
I’ve been hanging shelves wrong my whole adult life. I feel so much more equipped to do this now !! Thanks !!
Glad I could help Danbi. 👍
Now I'm curious. What was you doing wrong?
@@bloginterside my guess is he didnt use sheetrock screws
My grandpa is and has been my father figure for all these years and still not having an actual dad has made a difference. I am still truly thankful for my grandpa for teaching me what he could, how he could but this channel helped me in other aspects
I have a wonderful dad. Still this is so helpful and pure. What the internet needs. Keep going ! you rock.
"This is my own house so I can put holes wherever I want" =D Just perfect!
I'm 35 now and I lost my dad when I was 13.. I see him in you, trying to teach me the stuff he never got around to
I have some sort of anxiety and feel bad when I ask people what I see as 'stupid' questions. I have a dad, but I feel safe learning things from this guy. Not saying my dad is bad, he's great but of course I feel stupid for asking him questions. Thank you, man, I needed this really badly.
Your tone is why I watch these, my dad wasn't nice when he showed you how to do something. It's nice to just be instructed in a way that's like "it's ok you don't know how to do it, you will now."
I imagine Ill be watching this channel alot. I can always add to the dad knowledge swishing around in my head
This totally brought tears 😢😢 my boys lost their dad 5yrs ago. Thank you for having such a wonderful heart. Reading your story you well know how much boys need their dads in their lives. I wish I would have seen your video last year when graduation came around and I didn’t know how to do his tie😢
Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼
My dad passed away when I was 19 I just want to say thank you for all your videos these help me out a lot around my new house and in life in general. Thank You
I’m sorry you lost your dad, glad you’re here 🙏🏻
I can't really ask family for help so thank you for helping all of us who don't have someone :)
Thank you for this my father passed away when I was younger and he never taught me these things. The amount of times I've broken down crying about how I felt unprepared to become "the man of the house". You're doing an amazing thing and we all appreciate it
This man makes me wanna cry even when he’s teaching how to put up a shelf 😭 so adorable. My dad never taught me any of that as he wasn’t present in my life much so I appreciate this videos a lot❤️
Thanks for the instructions. My husband is disabled and I am beginning to try to do some of these things myself now. I'm subscribing!
Thank you so much. I'm 23, no father and raised by a single mother and my grandmother. Greetings from Mexico.
Welcome Gonzalo! :0)
I really appreciate this. My dad passed away in 2020. He was in the construction industry and was a big DIY kind of guy. He knew a lot about everything, from building things to fixing cars - I tried to learn what he taught me but admittedly I don't remember a lot of it. I just moved out on my own and have been pretty lost when it comes to DIY projects, which makes me miss him even more. I can't call him for help anymore, but these videos are super comforting and helpful. Thank you for what you do!
