It is so good to see the actual workflow! I also have been enjoying listening to your podcast, Kris, even I don't use LogicPro X, I think the knowledge you have still helps people using different DAWs. Thank you for sharing the knowledge :)
Awesome! Keep up the great work. I've been working in Logic for a few years and I still enjoy watching things other artists do to get results. I get lazy with my tracking and this has helped a ton. Great job.
Kris! Thanks for this timely video - I am recording vocals for one of my EP songs today and just got Logic in place -- this has given me the much needed kickstart on know-how to get 'er done!! Have a lovely day!
this is very straight forward and will get anyone recording day one...but, the only downside to tracking like this is if later, you realize that you have a bad take and need to punch in on a different day and have a hard time matching your tone. keeping takes isnt about having bad takes you dont need, but rather back up takes for mistakes, layering, vocal fx, and list goes on with what you can do with extra takes. this method if your grid isnt set up properly can lead to vocals sliding around.
I hear ya. I just take a very intentional approach with tracking my vocals. I don’t keep “bad takes”. When I track layers and vocals for fx it’s all planned ahead of time. Now if I was producing another singer, that’s a different story. I still comp on the spot though. Just my preference ;)
This video is so helpful! And the song is great! You have a way of condensing the information down to the essentials to be able to dive in and get work done without missing a detail. (Like the squeaks and tweaks) Kudos! And in the mix are lyrics so well written I feel like I can't lose! Thank you so much Kris for being out here with us.
Great video! Could you do a tutorial (or do you already have one?) on how to export multiple vocal files to send to a collaborator so that the files line up correctly when he/she imports them?
This is a superb demo of good practices and workflow. I noticed a few mistakes I have made in the past as well so I appreciate how thoroughly you are covering this subject so that people can benefit at every level. Do you recommend recording vocals sitting or standing?
Jad Reza awesome! So glad this is helpful! I recommend doing what feels best for you, I’m ok with sitting at this point, but I’ve also tracked vocals on hundreds of songs. A lot of singers prefer to stand ;)
I thought this was great, could you do more video's on REPURPOSING samples as I seen your Royality Free Video which shook me up a bit, most people use Royality free samples today. Can you get in trouble if you dont change Arcade samples or splice and Loop cloud.
If you use a loop from Splice and it ends up being isolated, then you can get in trouble because you didn't make the loop, and there's nothing that you made happening. So using loops to support what you've made yourself will not get you in trouble :)
I noticed in a previous video you were spending a lot of time separating out the sibilants like “s” . The “Melodic” algorithm in Melodyne 5 can now distinguish the unpitched, noise-like components of a note - i.e. voiceless consonants (such as sibilants like “s”) and breath sounds - from its pitched components. Even when they coincide.
Do I just realized I’ve been recording a vocal without clicking the input (I) beside the R button on the track. Not sure what is happening but when I’ve exported, the track is losing volume... any idea why?
Lisa Dunn hey Lisa!! that’s just your input which would allow you to hear your vocals. That shouldn’t affect the export😬 🙂please share in our FB group and we’ll get to the bottom of it!!
This is blazin' hot 💥 Would love to hear the finished production and the sounds you produced!
Just entertaining as hell as usual!
Larry Green Music hehe thanks!🤗💜

how does your vocals sound so good coming in ?
Gain staging is the most important factor my friend!
@@ProduceLikeaBoss can I skype you to talk about it 💰
Loved this video! Great song! Weird though, I clicked software monitoring and I'm not getting the speaker icon like you showed.
Courtney Chambers Music hey lady!! Your screen size smaller than 15 inch? It may just not be big enough to display all the icons!;)
@@ProduceLikeaBoss hmmm...no its a 15 inch.
What exactly should be the perfect distance between the mic and the singer?
I've heard 6 inches, but it depends on the style of the singer and the song! Start there and adjust if you don't like what you hear :)

Kris , what is the DMS mic model you mentioned? I couldn't get the name clearly...
Jacques Dorier It’s the slate VMS, link in description;)
