  • How to surf from intermediate to advanced... it's a stage where many, many surfers find themselves these days as they navigate this journey without much advice or guidance.
Transitioning from those frustrating surf moments on a wave where you bog rail or miss a turn you know you should have made, and finally discovering the movements and body positions to help you power through turns sending spray to the sky!
In this episode we’re going to show you how to get from that intermediate stage all the way through to advanced - now this isn’t going to be easy, but with the right guidance and some really helpful transition exercises we are going to get there!

This video is just what the doctor ordered because I'm still working on getting down the line from the start. I'm starting to go down a line but towards the end of the ride but because of this video I'll understand how to be aware of what the wave is doing so I can start to move up and down the way vertically and thank you for this help.

Lots of useful analogies and mental models here. But in reality the thing that generates speed on a wave is your center of gravity moving from a higher point to a lower point (to a much lesser degree, the forward speed of the wave towards land plays a role. But since waves are sloped, being "higher" equates to being "further back" on the wave's path, so they're one and the same). All the compression and extension really amounts to is "jumping" up the wave and then riding down it. When done properly it looks smooth, like that speed is being generated from within the surfer's legs or something. But it's all just gravity. It's the same as pumping a skateboard on a vert ramp or a mountain bike on a pumptrack.

I get a question for you: I see many pros take off by put hands on the board, others grab the rails. I've try both but I feel more better with the seconds (for example Fanning is a famous one that do it). What you think about? Would you talk in a video?

I’m so glad you made a clip explaining this because this was exactly what I needed! I’ve been watching a lot of clips from others point of view surfing on a wave through gopro just to see what kind of turns they are doing on different sections. Mostly on small to medium waves. It helps as if I was there on the wave too. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of that! And maybe adding some of your failed attempts. Love your energy and vibes. Thanks again!

Hiya! Thank you for the video! I have tried surfing a couple of times, I did a “surf camp” for a week in the UK like 6 years ago and was trimming along a green wave on a hard board by the end of it.. fast forward to last year and I went a couple of times in France with a foamie and only stood up now and then. The fitness levels have definitely declined!
I’d be interested in the “surf retreat” you mentioned - I’m thinking of taking a year out from everything in a few months to travel and would love to give surfing another proper go. I’ve looked into surf camps in Bali and Sri Lanka, and luckily I’m still young enough for a working holiday visa for Oz so that’s also what I’m thinking of!
If you could recommend any camps that do daily lessons and could do more than a month, or have a discount for block bookings (I’m thinking it’s something I’d like to give at least a good 3 month shot at).
Any advice would be appreciated really!
    Katie :)

I have a question. I think I am at that point where I am popping up confidently, getting on my feet quickly 95% of the time. I have been riding a 7'6" and I want to continue to do so, but I would also like to try a shorter board to challenge myself a little. I am 5'10", 150 pounds. I mostly ride shore breaks and I stay away, for the moment, from waves higher than 6. So mainly 5 foot waves and smaller. What would be a good volume and dimensions to start trying a shorter board on summer waves? thanks!

Your video are interesting but there one missing thing which is very important, and it's hard to show on video .
It's how the rail roll and what the inclinaison of the rail should be during a manoeuver , at my level im stuck figuring out the inclinaison i need to perform on certain manoeuver , roundhouse cut back for exemple , carve and so on. If you can model this with a line or something during your video it's would be really nice or make a video about it . it's what im missing to gain in radicality and it's a step in the way of learning to get better.
