  • The PR19 is a royal path that was once widely used by locals to move from the sea to the mountains between the various commercial activities existe there.
The population of Paul do Mar used this route essentially to reach the top of the slope in order to be able to develop agricultural activity, as a complement to fishing activities.
This trail constitutes an authentic historical heritage; meandering along the zigzag slope with the floor paved in small steps, it bears witness to the isolation of the ancestral populations, and to the ingenious and arduous paths built by the people to overcome this isolation.
Arriving at Paúl do Mar, do not miss exploring this small parish planted on the seafront and admiring the large cliffs that embrace it.
Once an important fishing centre, due to the great abundance of fish, in 1912 a tuna canning industry emerged for export purposes.

Amigo Gui, nesta Ilha da Madeira os trilhos das Levadas são suaves mas tudo o resto é "Grandes Subidas e Grandes Descidas" :-)
