Glad they finally did this. People have been telling them to do it for years. And if Copic wasn't worried before, they should be now. They've lost their only selling point.
Yep. If I were COpic I'd be scared and running around trying to figure out a way to either lower prices or make their markers better in some way. As it stands, I don't see myself buying new copic markers again, although I might continue to refill the ones I have...
Was considering buying either a copic or prismacolor marker set since I barley had any, until I heard about Ohohu, and instantly got the 320 set, since it's pretty affordable.
Ohuhu sells individual marker colours and replacement nibs on their website, so you don’t have to buy a whole set. You can replace the chisel end of the Sketch and Ciao with a fine tip on the Copics. Keep creating 💛💜💙
Thanks for the tips! I appreciate it! And thank you for watching and commenting!
ohuhu have really upped their game, now that they offer refills and provide a similar standard to copics they really are the best ❤❤
I agree. And you can buy single markers on their website now for a little over $2. I don't think I'll buy Copics again...
Very pretty picture! Now that Ohuhu has replacements and refills it has become a major competitor to Copic!
I agree! And you can buy single markers on their website to for just over $2 USD. Most of my Copics were around $5.86. I don't see myself buying Copics in the future, especially if Ohuhu continues to expand their refill line.
Ability to refill is a game changer! I’ve been seeing a lot of people using these that were very pleased with them and I had thought about getting some but was on the fence for the same reasons. They’re now on my wish list. Thank you for letting us know they can now be refilled. The Oriole turned out beautiful!
Totally agree! And they have individual markers open stock on the Ohuhu website too. They run a little over $2 USD a piece. My copics ran about $5.86 a piece. That is a BIG difference for markers that perform almost identically...
yes im sure your right. Ill get some asap. the do look nice
@@winterwoodsstudio oh that’s even better. I didn’t know you could buy them individually. That’s my complaint with the Spectrum Noir’s…you have to buy sets and there are repeats in their sets.
Hullo Amy, a wonderful video of the new Ohuhu Markers! I believe that the difference between the Honolulu A & B’s are they both have a brush nib on one end and chisel or fine(bullet) on the other. I was working with a design firm when the owner decided to switch from gouache to alcohol markers for their illustrations. It was NOT an easy switch for most! You made using these markers look easy, well done! If they figure how to re-mark their numbering system without a lawsuit from Copic, I would never buy another Copic! Ohuhu needs a better system. Thank you for sharing these markers with us!
Thank you so much for the kind words I really appreciate it! And I can see how the switch from gouache to markers would be hard! They are not at all alike! And I agree with the numbering system thing. That was my biggest issue but it wasn't a deal breaker. Thank you for watching!
What a wonderful job you made of that bird very realistic. Thanks Amy and I hope your well.
I had over 300 copic markers but I would say in the last year 1/2 of the new ones I added to my collection were dry when I received them. That’s very frustrating when you consider how much they cost. Therefore, I finally broke down and bought the Ohuhus. I’m glad I did.
Yep. I had that same experience. I wonder if there is a flaw in comics caps or something. But yes. It was super frustrating!
Ohuhu is really working to give their customers what they ask for! Bravo Ohuhu!
I’ve changed my mind on ohuhu markers. They are refillable like Copic markers now, so, why spend so much more for Copic? Copic better start bringing down the price of their markers! 😛
Same! Especially if Ohuhu continues to expand their refill line, I don't see any reason to buy Copics anymore. And I was a die hard copic fan. I've got over 150 in my collection!
Your oriole painting is gorgeous! I’m in awe of your talent!💜💜💜
Thank you so much! That is so kind of you to say! I really appreciate it! And thank you for watching and commenting!
I just received a set of 60 in the landscape tones from Ohuhu and at first I was disappointed that they had a chisel/bullet combo for the kaala series. Didn’t notice when I bought them as they were my first set of alcohol markers. I love the colours and after watching your video and how you loved the bullet tip, I tried them again with an open mind and they are pretty good. Now I’m looking at the set of 24 skin tones. I will eventually buy a bigger set with more colours as the value is so good with these. Can’t justify the Copic. Thanks for the review!
Great job! I learned alot as I am a beginner artist and this was so helpful. Thank you.
You are so welcome! I am glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Yes so awesome they sell replacements and now some refills now
Ohuhus are my favorite marker. Period. I got that giant 356 set a few years ago now and they are still juicy and perfect!
I've actually noticed that some of my less used copics have randomly dried out but so far none of my ohuhus have. I didn't use them up, they sat for a few months and when I went to use them, nothing. They should have been full because they are colors I don't use that often. And I got them at the same time as my ohuhus. I don't know if I got bad copics or what but it was super disappointing! Thank you for watching!
@winterwoodsstudio you're not the only one! I've heard from MANY people that their Copics dried out in months! Even not being used as much! Maybe the caps have a design flaw that let's a little air in?
Wow! Great job! I love birds! Maybe you can walk us step by step through how to use markers on a picture. You made it looks so realistic.
I could try to do an intro to alcohol markers video, or something and teach the techniques in depth! That's a great idea, thank you!
I love your birds! I shy away from Alcohol Markers just because of the bleed tgrough. I have tried one. It's great to know that there is a plastic sheet. I needed this tutorial on the markers to see how to blend them.
Yep, they do bleed; but as long as you have a sheet, or even just a sheet of card stock underneath what you are working on, it usually takes care of it! Thanks for watching!
Wow that turned out beautiful!
Thanks, Pam! I appreciate it!
Your excitement over the bullet tip had me chuckling. It's so good finding little things like that wonderful!
I was so excited when I realized it! It made things so much easier for detailing! It cut way back down on the time I need to use my colored pencils! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
I have a random set of alcohol markers I need to get out and try again. I like the colored pencil with them. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love doing a little colored pencil on top! It really makes things pop! I use them on top of my watercolors too! Thanks for watching!
Love the oriole. Birds are one of my favorite subjects. I have some Ohuhus that I haven't tried yet, but I just might break them out today. Thanks! ❤️
You should! I enjoyed them SO much! It was ton of fun! And no clean up, like when I'm using paints! Sometimes, you just want to sit down and draw! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for tip about markers mixing pencil. I guess that’s the solvent. Might be nice to try mixed use with Derwent or other ink based pencils.
- Lack of refills is a reason i didnt buy. - Plus with Copic, I could buy empties to make my own blends. Also, i downloaded Copic line of color charts and a blank to record my custom colors.
Although it's unlikely I'll be adding markers to my box of tools, I did really enjoy seeing you put them to good use in that sketch of the Oriole. It seems you were pretty happy with just about all aspects of them, so I guess we'll be seeing them in action again in the future. If so, I look forward to seeing another super colourful creation. Best wishes, Brian.
I was very happy with them! I don't see myself buying Copics again, especially if Ohuhu continues to expand their refill line. I don't use them a lot, mostly just for illustrations that I'm going to scan in right away, becuase no alcohol marker is lightfast, but they are fun and easy to use, especially when you don't feel like pulling out all of your supplies, or cleaning up afterwards! Thank you for your continued support of my channel and for watching and commenting so often! I really appreciate it!
Love my Ohuhu's. They are a great company that stands behind their product. I do agree with you on their numbering system.
Yeah, that was my only complaint. But as long as you keep your swatch card handy, you can find what you want easily enough. I found that when I put them in the marker organizer, in the same order they are in on the swatch card, it helped a lot! Thank you for watching and commenting again, Tracy! I appreciate it!
Such a beautiful piece!
Thank you very much!
you make the alcohol marker blending look wonderful
Thank you! It's actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it!
That is a magnificent Baltimore Oriole! I’ve never seen someone do such a realistic bird with mostly alcohol markers.
You’ve made me need to get my ohuhu markers back out x
I love drawing with mine! They are so much fun!
I like my Copics, but the price to performance of Ohuhu is much better, especially since Copic barrels are hit or miss in quality. Copic does pastels better though. Ohuhu's pastels seem like watered-down darker colors. But I see no strong reason to get Copic. None of the alcohol markers are lightfast, so that's definitely not a reason. And some of the colors will fade even in a closed sketchbook, the BV range being one example. Very nice oriole.
I do agree in the set o got there weren't a ton of pastels. I know they have bigger sets but I haven't tried them so I don't know. I think they worked just as well as my copics. As long as they keep expanding their refills I don't see any reason why I would continue to pay so much more for the copics.
Love the bird! I have a set of them that I've never done very much with. I loved watching you work with them. It's given me some ideas! I've never had use for a chisel tip but have always liked the bullet nib (when I did take them out to play). I think the reason why I've never really used them was because of the inability to refill or buy open stock.
I literally have never used a chisel tip on any of my markers, but that fine point tip was a game changer! And I agree with the refill/open stock thing. But you can buy individual markers on the Ohuhu Website for just over $2 USD now. My COpics all ran about $5.86 individually. Plus they have their ever-expanding line of refills. I don't see myself buying Copics again. Ohuhu is just as good, with a much better price. Thanks for watching and commenting, Tracie! I appreciate it!
Very well done this little birdy
Thank you so much! Thank you for watching!
Love your work
Thank you so much 😀
I really enjoyed watching you create with the markers and pencils! I struggle with layering but you seem to just automatically no which way to go!!! I keep purchasing different supplies and not getting to use all the different mediums but want to learn more drawing techniques and use of supplies thank you for doing this!!
You can do it! It takes a bit of practice but once you get the handle of it, it goes very smoothly!
I didn’t fine the Ohuhu as good as the copic. I tried some and first of all the caps, color numbers drive me crazy, second I didn’t think the colors were as intense. But mostly having to dig through them with the caps no stop. But if you’re on a budget they are a good option . I like the fine points but you can switch out the copic tips so I may do that on some. Anyway just my thought on them.
I really hope you’ll be selling your bird artwork as prints. They are so beautiful!
I hadn't really thought about it, but I definitely could do that! I was planning on turning them all into stickers for sure, but I could do prints as well! Thanks for the idea! And for watching and commenting!
Hi Winter. Would you mind explaining the colorless blender, when, and how to properly use it? PS I know your name is not winter but I have a not so good memory and really think Winter is such a pretty name. I hope it's OK if I call you that, if not please let me know
I haven’t tried Coptic I saw how pricey they are and have seen some comparisons to Ohuhu and purchased them instead and I’ve enjoyed then a lot . Beautiful little bird.😊👩🏻🎨
Yep. Copic is way pricy. I think mine ran somewhere like $5.50 a marker. The ohuhus run about a dollar a marker. And it's not like you are paying for better (i.e. lightfast) pigments like when you buy pricey watercolors for example. NONE of them are lightfast, so that isn't a consideration. I really really liked them!
Absolutely love my Honolulu B ohuhus
Beautiful bird.
Thank you so much! Thank you for watching!
Great review! Your Oriel came out awesome.
Thanks so much! Thank you for watching!
Mystic Spatkle Wings has a free swatch chart for the Ohuhu alcohol markers on her Ko-Fi page that is arranged in the different color families like the free swatch chart for the Copic alcohol markers are arranged.
Ooh! Thank you! I will definitely check it out that's awesome. That would be so helpful! Thank you for watching!
@@winterwoodsstudioI forgot to mention you can donate money for that free Ohuhu alcohol marker swatch chart if you wanted to.
Thank you for this review, I have been thinking of trying the Ohuhu markers. I have some copics but the price on them is too high for the amount I use them so nice to see other options
Glad it was helpful! And yes, I agree about the price. The ohuhus run a little over $2 each on the website (you can purchase them individually now) and my COpics when I bought them ran about $5.86 USD individually. That's a big difference for markers that preformed pretty much identically...
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
What do you think of Winsor and Newton markers? They have the best marker inks I have ever tried for blending. But they are the worst at everything else (barrel design, no refills, it has open stock though! The price is too much)
I really like W&N but I can't use them without color charts
I haven't tried them yet, but I have been wanting too! There are soi many wonderful art supplies and so little time (and money!). Maybe someday! Thank you for watching!
Hi amy
Good morning!
Copic when Ohuhu started including more markers and refills: 😬
Lol! Yep!
Could you please stop and make sure objects you hold up for us to see actually have time to come into focus?? Mostly they don't so you just end up with an speedy in your face, out of focus object. It's pretty disconcerting and uncomfortable physically. I really like your channel but that makes it hard to watch, espectially with so many 'unboxings' of cool art supplies. Thanks and please, I'm not being snarky or a Karen. I just think it would make your channel a lot better.
I have a small viewfinder on my camera. I can't really see anything that's happening on it. I can't tell if it focuses on the stuff I hold up or not. I hold things up for quite a while and it doesn't always focus. I think it's because I broke my lens and I had to buy a used lens to replace it and the autofocus isn't as great. Nobody ever complained about it before I got the used lens. Unfortunately I can't afford a new lens right now. And I can't see on the viewfinder to see if it's focusing. I'll do my best but I haven't been able to fix it yet. Thanks for the feedback!
No problem. Thanks
