ReinardSynth#8 Roland W30 Repair: new display and GoTek installation

On my bench I have a Roland W30 which needs some love, a new display, a broken key replaced, switches replaced, a good clean…. and a GoTek floppy emulator installed.

Dear programmers and musicians, please pay attention to the Roland W30 sequencer. It has a "Record by key press" function that, when combined with real-time quantization, is rare. Considering its stability and lack of delays, I would like someone to port the Roland W30 operating system to a computer program on PC. This is possible because Roland uses an Intel 80196 processor.

just copy the OS file from this link (llamamusic.com/s50s550/sinfo.html#W-30Info) to a FAT formatted USB drive (can be done from any PC/Mac)

Hi Reinhard! May I ask why you have changed the 2 resistors of the contrast circuit? Increased range? Is it necessary? Thank you.

I changed them to get the contrast voltage in the range needed by the display. I needed it to be between approx. -10V and -5V, where the optimum for the display is around -7V +/-

Got it. I haven't changed them and now the optimal setting is when the pot is turned down all the way. Maybe it would be even better if I could turn it down even further. Not sure if this is worth disassembling the unit once again though. Anyway thank you very much!!
