  • A sad, dirty RM1X Sequence Remixer on my bench in search for some TLC this time. LCD contrast control needed fixing, tactile switches needed to be replaced and it needed a good clean.
The Bad Gear review of the RM1x I mentioned: • Bad Gear - Yamaha RM1x
Here you can buy the soft dome and 9mm 2-pin tactile switches: www.vintagesynthparts.com/yam...
Background music: fooling around with Yamaha RM1x Patterns "Artcore1" and "Pop"
    Tools used:
    - Steinberg UR22mkII + Audio technica 2020 for voiceover
    - Olympus E-M10 as video camera
    - Manfrotto Magic Arm
    - Editing: iMovie (Easy bits) + Davinci Resolve (difficult bits)

same issues as mine, faulty screen, luckily I jut replaced C41 as you did and it worked!

  • @ProjectOverseer

If you soak the yellowing buttons in hydrogen peroxide you can make them pure white again - used 12%

Please tell me you are available for fixing other people's machines. Like mine for example! What's your fees and how do I get it to you?

  • @markrussell5587

Thank you for this video the parts link and Deoxite tips! I have to fix mine now, unfortunately I can't get straight into the test suite as the "pattern" button is not working, so i've ordered the switch kit parts and have my fingers crossed. I could turn it on though and it was great to hear my some tunes i made over a decade ago! even though they were pretty ropey tunes lol

Just pulled my RM1x from the storage closet and it needs this service treatment and a cleaning. Looks labor intensive! What product did you use for cleaning the encoders?

wow man, you are a f***ing master! any tips how one should start his soldering/electronics repair journey to, one day perhaps, reach your level?

  • @izraelservantofalmightygod

Why you didn't remove the yellow tint from the buttons?

  • @ProjectOverseer

Its a fantastic machine - especially when your pattern creations are midi linked to other instruments in the studio.

Amazing. Have that machine and also need to replace the buttons. @reinardsynth do you also do repairs without flipping the machines yourself?

wow! thats a pretty good service job! how much did that cost the customer? i reckon by now pretty much all original Rm1xes out there will need this. did you find the new soft switches had a better playing response? ive always wondered that. also thank you for going through alot of the internal circuit board architecture. i found it interesting lol.

Nice to meet another guy that had to patch a RM1x PCB! 😂 I received the device for free 10 years ago from my room mate as most of the PCB was split in two, but about 30-40 repaired traces later I had a functioning device again!

Fun to watch. I would have guessed the display needed replacing. I wonder what took out the cap? Interesting.
