It's an indication that we don't trust them to be honest and forthcoming with their own recordings. They always mute things or turn off bodycams when it's convenient for them, or drag their heels handing them out.

To be fair, most chefs (not all), have to go through 2 years of culinary school followed by 5-10 years of intensive training within the particular culinary field they’re pursuing. Though I’m no mathematician, that’s a hell of a lot longer then 6 months of training police officers receive.
There are SEVERAL towns in Mississippi exactly like this. The town I grew up in people expect to be pulled over on a weekly basis and never end up with an actual ticket. I’ve been pulled over 10 different times in Columbia and have never been issued a ticket. “You’re going 5 under.” “It’s late.” “Your car has damage on it.” These are actual reasons that were cited to me for pulling me over.
Officer Wilder isn't just a terrible cop, in that moment he was also a terrible person. How heartless do you have to be as a human being to kick someone off public property for saying "God bless the homeless vets"? Like, screw homeless vets, I guess?
There are different 'lows'. That officer is lower than dirt, clay, and the most common rocks... They don't cost the *city* thousands; they cost the city's *taxpayers* thousands. And until police officers can be held personally responsible for malfeasance, that isn't going to change.
I think this is an important point that NEEDS to be addressed. When the state has to pay people for damages in court cases, that money should not under any circumstance come from taxpayer money, it should come exclusively from the donations and other sources of revenue they have (because make no mistake, the city does have actually sources of revenue, not just tax dollars). It is fundamentally wrong to use taxpayer money to pay individuals or groups for damages caused by the government because that is not a "punishment," that is just a redistribution of tax funds which hurts their entire taxpayer population.
Wilder should be fired immediately, as a citizen I’m so sick of these people being law enforcement using their own personal opinions as laws. The arrogance of the officers is a plague on society
Tbh, i think a lot of police officers take the job for the wrong reasons. Clearly this officer is one of them because he auditor told him to de-escalate and that pissed him off.
@@cmhsky Years ago during my criminal justice major it was a topic that Do people join the police because they feel comfortable with the strict and authoritarian nature of the job? OR do they get formed by the job into authoritarians because of all the crap they have to deal with everyday? 1) cops DO see an incredible amount of ...well Crap People and situations. They are lied to spit at, shot at, cursed at, maligned for just doing their job, and general shat upon for protecting law and order. It is no wonder that they would develop an attitude of hostility towards people outside their field. 2) Many of the police are prior service, which means they love and crave order and authority. Many are kids of cops or the military which can bring the same idea. 3) Neither of those is complete though and neither is why all police get to that stage. 4) This is a reason to try to understand and reform Policing in the US. We need to remove and replace this attitude with one of public service, and one that aims to protect the public as well as protect the law. So I would agree with you. There is far more to it than just that, but You are right, the first cop just wanted to deal with a "problem" and did not care about the constitution that he swore at least 1 oath to protect, and possibly 2 depending on the one he swore as a cop as well.
It’s clear these officers are not upholding the law, these officers are upholding their arrogant egos in wanting to be obeyed when no law is being broken.
you can actually trespass from a public place as well. You can be asked to leave the public property because a person or an organization that has control over that public place has the right to ask you to leave.
I would go further and say there should be an annual test on the US Constitution that every LEO must pass every single year to reup their certification. That way if they violate a citizen's rights, the plaintiff's attorney can point to the most recent test on file and ask the question: "How did you not know?" This can provide evidence of willful neglect or even intentional violation.
@jonathonmcglew4992 Now now, don't be silly the legislators and government cash wasters wouldn't want police knowing people's rights as they then could not order them to breach them and they would jump to do it.
Oh, they'll pass the test easily enough to get the badge. The problem is they forget it, ignore it, or in a work culture that pressures them to violate what they know to be the right thing. As a vet he will have been I indoctrinated to follow orders and as such he can't deal with civilians, military people should never be police, the personalities required are too far apart.
It's a disgrace. Being a Veteran myself, it makes me wonder what the tyrant is getting disability from the VA for. If he is rated for PTSD at all, he should be retired from the force immediately. His feelings got hurt and he pushed his weight around, threateningly I might add too. Too many times have I found other Veterans in positions of authority usurping it, and abusing it. The way he said it and the way he acted made it clear to me he probably did a 4 year reservist contract in a POG job and never deployed, leaving after 4 years as a PFC in the 1990s.
Training or refresher courses cannot change the essence of a person, their personality, ego, beliefs or integrity. That takes on-going counseling on how to first be a better human being.
Both of these officers proved Sam Clemens point when he said, "It's better to keep one's mouth closed and be thought to be a fool than open it and remove all doubt".

Try and make it make sense? If they catch anyone on disability in my state lifting more then 25 pounds, they will remove your disability benefits. I should be considered disabled, but I found the restrictions and hoops they make you jump through, not to be worth the effort. I broke 8 vertebrae in a car accident back in 2008 and suffered permanent nerve and spinal cord damage. I just work part time and run a tiny tea business on my family farm. Some days I can put 6-8 hours of hard work, while others I am unable to get out of bed. I barely get by and this guy gets to collect disability benefits and a cushy police salary. It makes me sick to my stomach that he’s allowed to receive such benefits when it’s clear he can work in full capacity as a police officer.
Maybe he has a _mental_ disability that would prevent him from holding a job that involves using his intellect. His current position doesn't seem to conflict with that stipulation, and he's avoiding any intellectual prowess with distinction.

Jeff is seasoned and is tactfully obtaining incriminating statements on video from the asshole cop that could be used in a civil courtroom. I hope he sues and wins big.
No, it makes sense. We are paid for disabilities as in less ability to use a part, constant pain, things that will shorten our lives. It's a part of the contract we sign when we enlist or are commissioned in the military. If they break us, we get paid for it if is adversely effects the rest if our lives. After Vietnam, I was a homeless veteran for a time. I went looking for an old comrade but he had died from exposure to Agent Orange. I was just minding my business, but the corrupt local sheriff tried running me out of town. He put me in jail on charges of vagrancy, resisting arrest, and possessing a concealed knife. His deputies let it all happen. It triggered my PTSD and I snapped, fought my way out and escaped into the woods. They tried hunting me down with rifles, dogs, and a helicopter, but I used my deadly skills to eliminate them one by one. Eventually they called in my former commanding officer, Colonel Sam Trautman. But it was just a ploy to get my guard down while they tried blowing up the mine I was holed up in. I had to shed more blood then, because long story short, ACAB.
You’re right. Anyone that supports him, and the vets, should wear a GBTHV shirt same day every week. The shirt sales can be a fundraiser for homeless vets. I RETIRED from the Navy and I have a place to live now but some days I fear I may get too much anxiety and that I will be out in the woods living.
That’s not unusual. Disabilities don’t necessarily need to stop the person from working, or be readily apparent. They can be things that effect the individual’s daily life or their enjoyment of daily life (PTSD for example). Those are often referred to as “invisible disabilities” because the individual outwardly appears fine. It’s also common for veterans to not realize they qualified for disability from the VA and receive back pay many years later, or be forced into a medical discharge and receive disability as a form of severance pay. It’s really not as strange as you might think for someone to receive VA disability and still be fully employed.
@@SchmittySchfin you took my point the complete opposite direction. If he has an invisible disability, One that may alter his perception or anger control, It may not be a good idea for him to be a cop. Or he has fooled the VA and then they should take back every dime.

It’s one of those catch all ordinances so cops can remove undesirables. They couldn’t call it “existing in public”, because that sounds too unreasonable even to staunch boot lickers.
I had cops roll up their cars on the grass of a public park that was a 30 second walk from my house because I was sitting there in the evening. I needed space alone because a friend had just died and I wanted a quiet, outdoor space where I could sit with my thoughts away from my home and my housemate. Apparently a gazebo in a completely empty public park I was paying taxes on is forbidden. Neither cop even came out of their car to talk to me or see if I was okay. They just rolled up two cop cars over the park grass, and I walked back to my house in frustration. They didn't even roll down their windows to talk to me when I walked past their still-moving cars. They just made eye contact and I guess decided not to arrest me because I clearly wasn't homeless or dealing drugs. It was so surreal and disrespectful. Can't believe people can't just sit at a park if they want. Some free country we have here.
I like that Officer Wilder did whatever he could to make this whole thing about him. He had to make sure to mention that HE was a vet, that HE served for civil liberties for twenty years. Mr Gray perfectly baits these guys to show their true colors. He lets them make an assumption, act on that assumption, and actually invent crimes he’s committed meanwhile all he says is god bless the homeless veterans. It’s actually a brilliant way to do things.
He is absolutely baiting them by being deliberately vague. If he had answered the cop with "I'm showing my support for homeless veterans." when he was asked what he was doing, then I would agree with him. Since he refused to answer what his purpose for being there was, then the police officer was forced to infer what his intentions were based on his experience.

What do you prefer? A load of cops that easily back down and aren't driven at all? There's nothing wrong with ego. This remained verbal and largely respectful seeing as how the guy really wasn't bothered about pissing the cop off. He even told him to de-escalate, meaning he knew that HE himself was escalating it - which he was. Reading his sign after being told "What are you doing" isn't an answer. The sentence on that sign isn't a 'doing' action. It's a claim that he thinks a mythical supernatural figure should bless homeless vets. And what does that even mean? That he thinks his 'god' is leaving them out? If they are homeless I guess they're not being blessed. So he's asking god to do it? The ego on him right? The sign was pointless and meaningless, only the sentiment remains. The guy had nothing better to do with his day than try to provoke reactions from cops/people in different places.

I went down to Mississippi after hurricane Katrina. The company that I was working for rented us a house. A small two bedroom ranch about a mile from the river. It was one of the few homes in the neighborhood that wasn’t destroyed by the flood wave. It was my brother in law, myself and four dudes from Michigan in the house. I’m a carpenter of everything from frame to finish. I ended up roofing the gazebo on the town common in ocean springs. Hahah I’m from Massachusetts and I had to come all the way down to Mississippi to have the honor of roofing the gazebo on the common! While I was in the process of getting the job done. A bunch of reporters and cameras and….holy cow!! The mayor! A very nice woman and some of her staff. She shook my hand and noticed that my accent was Boston. She then informed me that….y’all take care of this gazebo. It’s a genuine “100yr old” gazebo! 😂😂😂😂😂. I in my head was thinking 100 years! 100 years young! I’m from the northeast. He could be rated at 10% for tinnitus, thereby receiving a check from the VA.
Imagine sitting in a park, relaxing and then being arrested for "loitering" after 30 mins 😂 😂 That's the stupidity of that loitering rule
I’d encourage everyone to read their cities “ordinances”. You generally won’t have to go far to find some unconstitutional bs in there.
Sounds like it's a roundabout way of making homelessness illegal.
I like that Officer Wilder did whatever he could to make this whole thing about him. He had to make sure to mention that HE was a vet, that HE served for civil liberties for twenty years. Well all those years and he never understood the slightest bit of it. My bar for police officers is low in general, but Officer Wilder will most assuredly be the center of a lawsuit one day. @fintybadmanjunior What does it mean to take your morning constitutional?
A “morning constitutional” meant a morning walk (good for the constitution/health). It was kind of an upper class or educated phrase, though. Then people started using it facetiously to mean a morning dump, as a way to disguise what they're doing and to make themselves sound more educated.
Standing in front of city hall in a political demonstration is literally the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the first amendment.

Mr Gray perfectly baits these guys to show their true colors. He lets them make an assumption, act on that assumption, and actually invent crimes he’s committed meanwhile all he says is god bless the homeless veterans. It’s actually a brilliant way to do things.
the fact that it’s even “bait,” really says a lot
he doesn't bait them at all. He just goes to express perfectly normal protected speech in traditional public forums, for the most part.

What sucks is that he's a Sgt.
He is a wildling.
@@CMDRRustyDog When exercising your rights is perceived as attempting to provoke reactions from police, you are living in an authoritarian society. The police should walk right by these people and mind their business, until they witness someone doing something that is in fact unlawful.

Generally speaking, they are more indoctrinated to follow orders than "protect freedom." We need to quit the hero worship. Some deserve that status, but many don't.
