It is fundamentally wrong to use taxpayer money to pay individuals or groups for damages caused by the government because that is not a "punishment," that is just a redistribution of tax funds which hurts their entire taxpayer population.

They are lied to spit at, shot at, cursed at, maligned for just doing their job, and general shat upon for protecting law and order. It is no wonder that they would develop an attitude of hostility towards people outside their field.
      2) Many of the police are prior service, which means they love and crave order and authority. Many are kids of cops or the military which can bring the same idea.
      3) Neither of those is complete though and neither is why all police get to that stage.

If he had answered the cop with "I'm showing my support for homeless veterans." when he was asked what he was doing, then I would agree with him. There's nothing wrong with ego. This remained verbal and largely respectful seeing as how the guy really wasn't bothered about pissing the cop off.
He even told him to de-escalate, meaning he knew that HE himself was escalating it - which he was.
Reading his sign after being told "What are you doing" isn't an answer. The sentence on that sign isn't a 'doing' action.
It's a claim that he thinks a mythical supernatural figure should bless homeless vets.
And what does that even mean? That he thinks his 'god' is leaving them out? If they are homeless I guess they're not being blessed. So he's asking god to do it? The ego on him right?
The sign was pointless and meaningless, only the sentiment remains.

Don't be ridiculous. What would be the crime?
The guy said he didn't care if he was pissing the cop off. Do you think that doesn't count for anything?
Then he asked the cop to de-escalate a situation that he himself was escalating.
It seems that you, like many others, are pre-conditioned to take the side against the cops and over-dramatise the situation.
The cop was hardly being a tyrant. Jeez.

12:38 is so painful. This new cop is in an impossible position. He knows the guy is right, but he's never going to walk over to the more experienced officer and say "you're making a mistake, you need to back down", so instead he joins the charade.

This is why I don't think the second cop (Gill) deserves an F. I think he deserves a C-. His base was they were called about solicitation, which is fair, but the first cop should've came up saw he wasn't asking for money and left. Gill at least remained calm and tried to explain his side of things.

They have talked about this in several cases. As a witness cop your job is to enforce the commanding cops behavior be it wrong or not. You can't held liable for going rogue if the leading officer(s) commands you to do so UNLESS he commands you to break federal law or attempted murder (passing out a victim by pressing their knee to the throat for example)

I went down to Mississippi after hurricane Katrina. The company that I was working for rented us a house. A small two bedroom ranch about a mile from the river. It was one of the few homes in the neighborhood that wasn’t destroyed by the flood wave. It was my brother in law, myself and four dudes from Michigan in the house. I’m a carpenter of everything from frame to finish. I ended up roofing the gazebo on the town common in ocean springs. Hahah I’m from Massachusetts and I had to come all the way down to Mississippi to have the honor of roofing the gazebo on the common! While I was in the process of getting the job done. A bunch of reporters and cameras and….holy cow!! The mayor! A very nice woman and some of her staff. She shook my hand and noticed that my accent was Boston. She then informed me that….y’all take care of this gazebo. It’s a genuine “100yr old” gazebo! 😂😂😂😂😂. I in my head was thinking 100 years! 100 years young! I’m from the northeast. Where I’ve worked on 300yr old homes…literally 300 years. I assured her that I would never let anything bad happen to their gazebo and I would make it look pretty. As far as I know. It’s still there. It’s a shame to see that one officer being such a dickhead in a place where the people were so nice to me and who I really was trying to help. Just goes to show ya that one bad apple does NOT spoil the bunch! Ocean springs Mississippi was a beautiful place with beautiful people…asleast the people who I met!!
