They have little to 0 accountability, I watched a half hour video on cops responding to people asking for a report form to lodge a complaint against an officer(which is supposed to be provided and allowed to be done anonymously) in the majority of the scenario's it was treated with interrogation, accusations, bullying, threatening, and all the way up to literal violence inside a police station. only a minority provided a complaint form which varied heavily by State, and even with all that unlikely the cops would experience any real consequences. The cops are a perfect example of the infamous prison study, they are like the guards uncontrolled power, without consequences.
They weren't clueless, they knew exactly what they were doing. They engaged in criminal conspiracy, bragged about it, then said they were going to take away the man's child and dog. How these men are not in prison is beyond me.

“Going to call CPS and have your kids taken.” THAT threat. Actionable. Since the officers were already aware of the illegality of the reason for the stop, the threat to take children, to coerce compliance, is direct retaliation, and was meant to chill freedom of speech. No reasonable person would feel safe to speak freely, at that point. This really needs to be followed up properly, at the federal level.
@@baldisaerodynamic9692 It’s not that they chickened out but that the court system would financially cripple them. They would stretch, delay, then appeal till the citizen is incapable of continuing their lawsuit. Justice is served to those who can afford it.

They need to make these lawsuits cost the officer personally. After all, she/he is the one who has chosen to be how they are. Make them suffer for their actions instead of hiding behind qualified immunity and making the citizens suffer instead by paying their lawsuit. At a bare minimum, they need to take the money from the police department's budget, the officers pay and the Chief of Police's pay. While still tax payer money, it will make the higher ups more choosy on who they hire and retain. It will make them think twice about allowing a bad cop to be hired or stay in their department. And it will make the tyrant officer think twice about their actions if they know it will hurt them in a personal way. As it is now, what does the department care? it's not their money.

Every police officer in America needs to be explicitly trained to know that when a citizen flips them off, it is NOT disorderly conduct. Contempt of cop is Constitutionally protected speech.
They are explicitly taught this in the police academy. Either they are too stupid (which is a distinct possibility) or they don't care and do it anyway. I think it might be a bit of both.
They already know this. Ignorance of the law is a valid defense for officers though and all they have to do is not admit to knowing and you then have to prove that they know
I'm pretty sure they are, they just blatantly ignore that training because they know they have qualified immunity. Qualified immunity needs to go! Maybe then they will actually start respecting our rights.
Two cops and two cars with flashing lights is far more likely to cause a disturbance and distract drivers than a guy with a sign. In fact, It is guaranteed to make people rubber neck and risk causing an accident. If they truly cared about public safety, they would never have stopped in the first place.
Here in Europe, when an accident occurs on one side of the road they place a screen between the roads to avoid a traffic jam and accidents from f Drivers distracted by what is happening at the other side. So it is a fact this causes more dangerous distractions.
@adamlanza1890 I assume it annoys many people here, who also want to take a look. Just like so many people love to visit disaster areas ‘to take a look’. And to be fair, I often have a similar level of curiosity. However I rather not stand in a traffic jam or even an accident because of it.
The best part is how the cops scold the man at first for teaching his kid wrong about cops. Then immediately prove how tyrannical, petty and never to be trusted they are.
They are on video being advised by other troopers that they have no basis for what they are doing, they continue anyway, and yet they are found to have acted "in good faith."
Never gonna happen when they have literally free reign to do whatever they want whenever they feel like it, and have their own coworkers investigate them. I thought the goal of law enforcement was to stop crime. By holding the sign, this man was stopping people from speeding. Their anger and actions prove that it is not about stopping crime, it is about revenue creation.
That is not the logical conclusion. His sign stops speeding only very locally and temporarily, while the "chance to get caught" is a more effective deterrent. If every speed trap was marked with a sign, do you think there would be more or less speeding in areas without marked speed trap? I'm not on the guys side when it comes to warning people of speed traps. Speeding is a deadly offense. But the cops are utter.. well, they deserved the gesture.
@@Thiefnuker Revealing the location of police officers is not a crime. Period. And I guarantee you that 29 days and 16 hours per month, traffic in that area always travels at a speed above the limit. They just choose to use that single 8 hour period for revenue creation. I would be willing to bet that each of these officers joins right in and runs with the speed of traffic when in their car. If I get on the interstate while leaving work and do the speed limit, I would be getting passed by 99% of the other drivers. Heck, I get passed by most folks when I am doing 10 over--including police officers.
I'd also point out that they do have an insetive to get rid of him. They have a ticket qouata that get them bonuses. Since the prison system is a for profit private buisness. So yeah. The police are paid to ticket people in entirely unnecessary circumstances to meet quotas. Which may also lead to them finding whatever they need to arrest that person so the prison stays full. American policing has long since stopped being about public safety and keeping the peace. It's all about corporate goons abusing their power to make fat cats more money. @@thobetiin8266 the whole point is that in order to try to enforce a minor traffic violation--they are willing to violate someone's Constitutional rights. I held a sign that said COPS WITH RADAR on a busy road where drivers commonly speed. I was given a hero's welcome. Drivers were yelling Thank You!, honking their horns, etc. One of the motorcycle cops eventually came up to me asking why I was doing this. I told him that in California it's extortion to charge drivers $600 for a speeding ticket. He was very respectful and both of them left.
And that's pretty much the main job of state troopers. They seem to do nothing but make people's lives worse and push their weight around and I don't think I've met a trooper without an attitude. Does the highway patrol ever actually help anyone?
It's crazy how a person on the side of the road with a sign that reads " Speed trap ahead" is actually more effective at reducing unsafe speed, than an officer in a cruiser is.

I don't think you know what tyranny actually means. The fact that Johnny received a 50k settlement is proof enough that law enforcement is not tyrannical. The fact that body cameras exist is proof. The existence of the IA department is proof. The majority of the United States Constitution is proof that we do not live in tyranny. You wouldn't know what tyranny was if it injected you with a vaccine under threat of unemployment. If you want to see tyranny, move to China, North Korea, Cuba, any of the commie nations. This is exactly why internal affairs is a joke, good faith my ***, they literally threatened him because they were flicked off and were caught on camera discussing ways to get back at him. They even threatened his family and his job. This is exactly why we need a civilian review board to reprimand and fire cops like this because they have completely forgotten that they work for the people and internal affairs rarely does it's job.
Especially after the audio came out, grasping for any reason to give him a ticket and someone telling them the charge will be dropped and 'YOU CAN'T DO THAT' absolutely unbelievable.
This is exactly why things like tickets for fines shouldn't be able to the organization writing them. All traffic ticket proceeds should go to funding the roads/infrastructure instead imo.
The most we can do is shine the light on these instances, because very rarely is anything done to reprimand this sort of behavior. Thank you ATA and everyone else who has covered this video.
These troopers represent the worst of the worst. They’re ok with people speeding so they can pull them over and…disrupt traffic. (Which is what happens when people are pulled over, traffic typically slows down). But a guy with a sign warning them of a trap is so terrible to them. These cops are brats.
Reminder for UK citizens. "It is illegal to flash your headlights for any reason OTHER THAN making others aware of your presence or to make sure they have seen you" - which is why I always make sure all the cars near a police speed trap have seen me and are aware of my presence!!!
I live in Texas and I warn oncoming drivers every chance I get. I figure that does more to slow the traffic than any cop hiding behind a bush. This clip is not about safety, it's about collecting revenue.
Yep. Here they hide the cameras in garbage cans, and all sorts of other stuff. But it’s not a cash grab, especially at the bottom of a steep hill where most people pick up speed so they can make it to the top. Or right behind a speed change where they can nail you for doing 35 at the sign when you came around the corner at 50. Just two regular traps I deal with. They love that speed zone. If you don’t know the area there’s no way to hit 30 by the sign without slamming the brakes. You come around the corner and bang! So yeah a lot of people get nailed for 5 over.
Can't believe the department has the arrogance to declare the officers acted in good faith. At very least the traffic stop was malicious. Tells you the department condones retaliatory actions from it's officers.

Them - "You're training your kid to hate police", then proceed to justify exactly what the guy said in the first interaction, which was that they like to trample on rights all the time.
They're more worried when money leaves the states and goes to another countrie. But ignored the millions/billions that have gone towards politicians pockets and lawsuits by government officials
He should escalate his complaint further up the chain. The footage of them discussing the charges would be thrown out proves they didn't act in good faith and should be disciplined. Absolutely despicable
Very happy he won his settlement. Too bad the two cops didn’t have to make the actual payments. Since they didn’t, I doubt they learned anything from this interaction.
When a cop is protected because "s/he believes they have a right to" even when they are legally in the wrong, how is that any different than any citizen being taken into custody because "ignorance is no excuse" when they broke the law. End qualified immunity, create a nation database for track these law breaking tyrants and make sure they pay to carry their own insurance to pay any suit coming from their criminal actions, so that taxpayers are protected.
Colorado ended qualified immunity, and now, surprise, they can't find enough people who want to be cops. The end result is that the public is less safe, police morale is low, overtime is costing the state much more $, which will raise taxes, etc.
@mike insurance comes from the police departments payroll. With all the confiscations cops do to make money, they can afford it. If not, these public servants shouldn't be breaking the laws and our rights. A cops so- called authority does not trump our rights..... EVER!
they swore to protect your rights but here they are harassing & collecting from the public. We need to end qualified immunity because the taxpayers are paying for this lawsuit.
That’s all a lie they tell the public. They don’t care about protecting anyone’s rights. They’re there to protect the State’s interest and get more money out of law abiding citizens.
There was a case in New York (upstate) where a cop arrested somebody for giving him the finger, and he not only got sued, but he was stripped of qualified immunity because giving someone the finger was so clearly a settled First Amendment issue up there.
This is why we need a civilian oversight committee with the authority to assign punitive punishment! Take away police union power! We see officers that don’t belong in law enforcement doing wrong every day because there’s no accountability!
Them threatening him to take his kid away is the most disturbing part of this whole thing. These guys are tyrants and need to be treated as such.

Punishment for exercising the rights they're suppose to protect.
Distracting people with a sign? Well, then there's a whole lot of billboards they need to get rid of, this is absolutely stupid.

Unfortunately it isn't the tyrant cops that foot the bill- it is the tax paying citizens that ultimately foot the bill for this....and we did nothing wrong, yet we have to pay?

The point of it is that “If there’s a situation that hasn’t been brought up before, And the police was found to be technically wrong in doing what they did, Then they cannot be held accountable”, And that makes perfect sense. That SHOULD exist - They can’t know if what they’re doing is wrong, If it’s never been ruled upon before.

That really ruffles my feathers when the trooper introduces himself at the second stop as if the previous events had not just happened. That whole tactic is a game they play where they try to do everything by the book after previously questionable activities when they want to have a charge stick.
