I was born in 1943, so that's the sound I grew up hearing in my hometown where the SP and MoP operated. UP's Big Boy came through my old hometown in November and it sounded like a river boat whistle. lol. The diesel and caboose must be news additions, which are great. I was there in 2014 when the Magma steamer was in operation, as well as an early SP alco diesel. The tank cars are bigger than the engine.
My husband and I were on that train that day May 26, 2023, we rode in the upper dome car. He was dressed as a US Marshall and I, as saloon keeper (like Miss Kitty from GunSmoke). What an awesome adventure!!!
Those oil tanks are much bigger then the tanks it was pulling when the engine was built. Nice video and engine! I really enjoyed watching it. Thanks for sharing it with us.
7:56 "AAAAAHHHHH! AAAHHHH! DRIVER, WHAT IS THAT THING?! IT'S NAKED!" screeched the diesel. "Silly," said his driver, "that's a steam engine. She's part of a legacy." "A lego seat?" "A legacy. She was hauling freight before you were even thought of." "PEEEEEPEEPEEEEEP!" whistled the steamer. "I'm back again, boys! I'm back again! How are you, young man?"

I had heard that they do pull revenue freight, glad to see that this is true. Is there a schedule for these services or are they Ad Hoc? I would like to get some images of this operation, however as I am usually working and I am unable to photograph the passenger excursions on the weekends so it might be worth making the haul from Houston on a weekday to photograph this magnificent beast.
A piece of machinery from back in time when they didn't needed a sofisticated 250K computer system with 290 sensors to give the message on screen 'The train is not moving', but could just use their eyes and look out the window 'hey Bob, we are not moving!'
I'd hate to say it but I think the age of steam roundhouse doesn't lease their locomotives. Plus I don't think there's an adiquite rail connection between Texas and Ohio for #19 to take. And even if there was it would be an awful long trip for an already worn out locomotive
Dillon Trinh Studios technically it was, the railroad was being paid to store them. So no they weren’t going to a business, the railroad was the business in this case.
It's great to see steam locomotives still doing real work like they're supposed to.
Live across the tracks from hwy 84 at Maydelle. Family homeplace. Never tire of that old whistle.
Tastefully and well done video. Thanks.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

That’s awesome! Me and my wife were chasing the train taking videos on the 26th also!
I’ll upload the video probably tonight or tomorrow !
Love that lawn mower powered loco in the intro to the video. Sounds like it's running great! : )
Right!

The scene at Maydell is incredible!
Yea it was pretty cool!
Yeah, first time in a while we saw 2 locomotives pass eachotber!

Now THIS is railroading!
Great footage!!
Thank you sir!

Not sure, but I think those tank cars store diesel fuel and oil for the locomotives.
You can just tell that this is what this locomotive was meant to do!
Would be awesome to see Yreka Western 19 visit the Texas State Railroad when she returns to steam in the future.

boo to no caboose!!!
great footage tho
I agree! And thank you!
Looks like the TSRR has a new Diesel
the little engine that could
Got to have a caboose, never let a steam locomotive on tracks without one
It does need a caboose!
What a beautiful Mikado! Is she a former Southern or Southern Pacific? The tender has me guessing.
She was built for the Tremont & Gulf Railroad. Later sold to the Magma Arizona Railroad. Then sold to the Texas State Railroad
i like how each part gets faster 32:13 33:16 34:16
Sure does!
Is 28 going to be running this season? Or will 30 be pulling trains this season
30 will be pulling the trains.
Aaron McCreight why wouldn’t both run? I’ve never really watched a lot of videos of the railroad or followed the railroad so I dont 5 everything.
They would do 2 trains, back when it was more busy
ALW Productions oh. But why do they only use 1 engine for the whole year
@@MPT_Productions Honestly thats a good question :P
The tanker cars are bigger than the locomotive!
I hope one day steam will be used again on the railroads.
Would be cool!
Hey Aaron Why Does the Train’s Tender Look Like Those tankers
TSR 30 has always had a Vanderbilt tender behind her ever since she was built in 1917.
Is John Vickers still with your group?
idk if it counts as revenue freight if you are going to fill your fuel oil tanks >.
since when did TSR do this?
They've been doing this since 2012, they store freight cars for other railroads, primarily UP and they get paid for it.
@@Bluebonnet_W_3162 I see, thx for the info
Were the tank cars loaded?
No just storing them.
@@aaronmccreight_trains-tractor Is this a REAL revenue freight run?
12:22 sounds like 6325
So what that’s what it was designed to do !
are you sure it was revenue?
Dillon Trinh Studios technically it was, the railroad was being paid to store them. So no they weren’t going to a business, the railroad was the business in this case.
IF THIS THING IS OIL FIRED IS PROBABLY JUST PULLING ITS OWN OIL
80# Rail?
If yes, that's what TROLLEYS run on!
Dead tanker storage
My god that whistle is beautiful. 🥲 Do you happen to know what it is?
