I thought the last short line to use steam in regular revenue service was the Crab Orchard & Egyptian RR as they were using it up until the early 1980's.
Here is an interesting fact this locomotive is my third oldest friend in Steam locomotion the first being Grapevine Vintage Railroad 10 wheeler number 2248 and the second being the green train at Six Flags over Texas I got to ride behind the 400 from Rusk to Palestine and one thing I remember was seeing her sitting next to the water tower in Palestine with her centered headlight versus the headlight mounted what all three of my old friends and steam locomotion sharing comments that they are over 100 years old 400 being over 100 since 2017
Awesome video! I became good friends with one of the crew members of TRPA. The Texas State Railroad is definitely doing an amazing job with their operations. I look forward to one day making a trip out to Texas and ride this railroad.
Gonna have to say it: Reader Railroad in southwest Arkansas was still serving an asphalt plant in the 70s. The stuff was too thick to flow through a pipeline. Steam powered mixed trains, daily except Sundays, IIRC.
Great video LRP, Love seeing and hearing steam locomotives at work. I caught ex-Southern Pacific 6379 yesterday on ZAILA first in Doyline then once again behind the Sciport theater in Shreveport.
Gets me even more pumped and excited for soon the return of our number 60 here in the east on BR&W. Can't wait to finally be up close and personal, working a shift with her, whenever that day comes around. For now, it's just the good old SW9, that personally is one of my favorites of the roster so far.
The bell, whistle, and chuffing of the locomotive echoing out of the Piney Woods of east Texas is like a love song to my soul. Thank you for this wonderful video.
when I was in boy scouts we camped there, then went for a ride on that train over the weekend. the parents were hyping us up for a steam engine the whole way there. we walked to the station and the run before ours came in with one of the steam engines leading. they then proceeded to cut it off and swap a diesel on :/ I guess they had issues on the previous run. anyway, after our ride we were left to our own for a bit while the adults went inside for something. we found some of the diesels parked nearby and turned off. we went over and started checking them out, one of the boys ended up opening the door on the nose. at that point someone from the railroad wrangled us up and returned us to the adults and everyone got in trouble. fun times, now Ive gone in hundreds of locomotives, get to use the controls, mainly the brakes though, and i get paid for the privilege. :} interesting, the diesel we were caught messing with was definitely a more modern one than what is shown in the video, maybe it was on loan. do they still do the "train robber" bit I remember that as well, but not much of it.
Why does my 18 year old neurotypical female college classmate Jocelyn Castro who is a volleyball player and played volleyball ever since 8th grade know a lot about NBA basketball, but not a lot about steam trains, especially not this steam train from the Texas State Railroad?

They sold the 22 a few years ago. Couldn’t tell you who to though. Just remember seeing pictures of it being loaded up to leave. Pretty sure they took it out on a truck trailer.
@@LouisianaRailProductions man, I’ve been trying to find pictures of them loading it up or shipping it. Just wanted to see what it looked like outside the Palestine shop walls.

Word is the TSRR is redoing all of their track with 115 pound per yard rail and redoing their bridges to handle more weight. I smell the possibility of the restoration of a Texan titan.

Hey Bishop, I have a rather-significant correction to your video: The Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania is a commercially operated shortline railroad, NOT a pure tourist operation. And Strasburg still uses steam for freight revenue service to this day. So the Magma Arizona is NOT the last shortline to use steam for revenue service. That honor belongs to the Strasburg. Other than that, good video.
Happy Saturday yall! Enjoy the video!
Another Awesome Video Bishop! Definitely a Great Day of Railfanning on the TSR!
Yessir we should meet up more often!
What a collection. If only money was infinite and all of these puppies could scream again. 400 looks great though.
Great video man! Thanks for giving TRPA a shout out!
For sure! Seems like a great group of people!
Good stuff, it was definitely great to see number 30 dressed up as 400 once again!
Are they no longer running two trains a day? Tank cars? It always made for a fun day, especially back in the 70's & 80's😊
They don’t do that anymore. It’s just 1 train now.
No 20th century steam locomotive is more all American then a Baldwin built Mikado.
Your video is so good! Would you join me in railfanning the Final Spike Tour in shreveport LA?
What a great video! I'm a "diehard" steam locomotive fan.

I hope Santa Fe 1316 will be back in service soon.
They haven’t started working on it. The only loco they’re working on right now is 28 or if it comes back dressed up as 300.
Great to see 400 still kickin' on the Texas State Railroad! Thanks for this update on my hometown railroad! Fantastic video!
Nice video man keep up the good work
400 is beautiful 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🖤
Great video Louisiana Rail Productions 😊

Beautiful locomotive- so good to see it running again. Always great when locomotives are restored to operation!
I got a picture with the 400 on the crossbuck back, i think in the late 90s when i was 7 or 10 yrs old.
Awesome video man. Glad to see TRPA crew working their magic with the TSRR Crew.
Definitely digging that Lunkenheimer 3 chime
Other than 316 400 is best girl.
Love her whistle sounds great Big girl
100/100

I don’t think they’ve done the train robber bit in a few years but I could be wrong on that. I remember seeing that as a kid too!

What ever happened to Diesel #22? If you know of. Miss seeing it in the back of the Palestine shops. I just hope they didn’t get rid of it.

Very cool.
What is the genealogy of the 400?
Built by Baldwin in 1917. Used on the Tremont and Gulf Railroad and Magma Arizona Railroad before coming to the Texas State RR.
Can’t wait to go see this!!

Very cool!! Question, Does the museum not restore T&P 610 because it’s too heavy for the line?
She's too heavy
It is also feared that the same problems that she had during the southern steam program would likely rise again if she was used on the TSRR
@@c.northway8061What would those problems be?
