I love the cheap Hobart hood. Cut the springs shorter so I can flick the flip front down easier. But I use a fixed shade usually. Just upgraded to a carbon fiber hood with some vintage view lenses. The benefits of that size of lens is how common they are so clear lenses are everywhere and dirt cheap. And there’s the most lenses available for the 2x4.25”
Since you work at a metal company, get as many drops and scraps that you can, and just start sticking stuff together. Nothing to it, but to do it! Listen to the old timers, they've been there and done that. They won't let you fail. And lots of UA-cam videos! What type of welding are you learning?

Cut your clear leaned from a new grinding shield
Live in South Carolina myself and work in maintenance at a metal company and recently just started to learn welding. Any tips of the trade

Thanks man
I would rather have one nice hood than seven cheap hoods. Buy once, cry once.
1:16 Can you polish it?
Probably. But not that worried about it.
