I get the way alot of metalheads think, because i used to be the same way. I hated when a band changed their sound and became softer/more medolic. It felt like a good friend changed and stopped being my friend. I understand it.
But you guys also have to understand that these guys change, their emotions change, and Winston has been using this album to cope with his loss (listen to wishing wells).
To me its narrow minded to judge the music based off your attatchment to them. Now if they changed into an off-brand Attila, id understand the anger. But this album has musicianship, musical skill, deep lyrics that are presented with emotion and depth. Its good music, even if your feelings and taste dont let you like it.

This song kicks ass and hits home for me big-time. How I had made it to 51yrs old is beyond me. I've come close a few times to seeing the grim reaper on a few occasions. Then real shit hit. Nov 4th 2019. I was blown up in an industrial accident. "I'll dance with the devil till there's no songs left." This song moves me in a way I can't really explain
They performed this when me and my brother went to see them on Thursday in Notts and they were beyond awesome.

Only now, reading the comments, I am learning about the meaning of this song and album, and now I feel like telling a story. This was their 1st song I heard. I wasn't a fan before obviously, because I didn't know about them. I heard it not even knowing the name of the band and I thought it was a perfect song. Simple, and perfect. Now I feel that way about most of their songs. I'm a fan ever since, and understanding the emotional meaning of this work and the path that led to it only makes me adore them more. I mean, the last song of the album pretty much summed up the whole thing. Just because it wasn't a guttural burp into a mic, doesn't make it any less emotional for them, or their fans. Hell, Johnny Cash was metal before there was, and that's because he had strong lyrics. Same goes for PWD. You make a deep emotional connection with fans, you succeed. Those who really listened, understood exactly what was happening with this album. It's not wrong for an artist to write an album that pleases themselves. It's a 10/10 for me, dawg.

There are very few bands I can stand when they change their style, but parkway drive is the biggest exception for me. Killing with a smile will always be my favourite album from them, but I love their transition, it's still parkway drive, they've evolved their music as they've gotten on, and you can see it in their craft, their execution and their shows. I don't listen to them as much anymore but they will always be my no. 1 band. PARKWAY DRIVE!!!

Parkway drive has been an incredible help and influence for me and will do not but respect them at least, for the rest of my life. Said this, although this album is quite respectable I can't help to think what could we have got if they put this great level of production and orchestral work along with the original and full of feelings old style of songs. Of course they have matured, of course their taste has changed and we don't want more songs filled with '0', but... it would be great to have the old passion added to this...
We'd have all those songs but with this brilliant artistry and I can only imagine everything else would be topping the next like usual.
@@orangejoe3967 no, it's not a "the old version/original version is better!" opinion, I think a lot of bands have improved through their lives, like Bring Me The Horizon although I loved the deathcore days, the new stuff they do is quite interesting while being absolutely different, but this? this is different, but not good, if this was their first stuff in that old situation, nobody would have noticed them, because it just doesn't stand out or presents anything fresh
Listener to this days after it was posted back when, loved it. But I did not give it the appreciation and love it deserves until now. Something about jammin under the stars really makes it hit harder. Bet it makes for a great time in the mosh pit.
