Aw, Jo, way to make me cry over the lovely nurse... gosh, it really does feel so good to be so cared about, especially by someone who you didn't expect to care the way they did.
I'm so happy that your case of the medical WTFs is starting to get better. I'll still keep some of my hope for you, I always will, but I'm so glad you're getting to take so much of it back now. All my love and happiness for you. ❤️ Here's to things continuing to look up!
Also - ALL HAIL THE LEG! It really does look better. 🙂 I find incisions etc. to be just as fascinating as you do, and the fact that you showed us was a total treat for my curious brain. 😁

Heard a good message today, don't let your present/ future expectations be clouded by your past experiences. And don't look for confirmation evidence to support your past experiences. Just like you were saying. Stay hopeful and full of faith that the best is yet to come- because it's true. I so needed that... Just to add to what you've shared. ;) So glad you're doing better. Def feel like I've been on a similar journey...sometimes just crying it out is the therapy we need too. :) Here's to continued health and happiness. You truly are a bright light Jo 💙

I'm so happy for your anaesthesia experience this time around. It is so helpful when doctors listen and act. My last operation I got a taste of what you're talking about. I woke up with a bronchospasm, not able to breathe, with a young, panicked doctor by my side who was out of his depth. It was traumatising for both of us. Since I was reacting to being extubated, not to any medications, and it has happened before, although not as severely, it is very possible that it can happen again. So I sincerely hope for someone competent and willing to listen and knowlegable for the next one. Fingers crossed.

Totally different situation, but I asked to have my elbow replaced at 27. I had a fall, just like you, and after a dozen surgeries to fix it, I was ready to give up.
They never do these replacements on young people, and it was weird being such an interesting case for the doctors. They even still have me come in every few months so they can run more tests and kinda show it off to the Med students. I don’t mind, I know I’m a case study and if it helps someone else, I’m down. Plus I learned so much more about the whole process.
I also had a very rare injury later, that was completely unheard of and required more surgery. I’m also always the one who has these things happen. If it “never happens” it will certainly happen to me. 🤷‍♀️ it’s kind of funny at this point.
Keep on persevering! I love your attitude towards everything and keep uploading videos of your journey! They keep me motivated on the rough days when I’m ready to quit

You look like you are healing up nicely. Hopefully your pain levels get better every day. I remember waking up from the surgery where they took out my knee replacement and put in antibiotic cement spacer inside as my knee while they were trying to get rid of the infection. I woke up screaming and crying in pain. I swear the nurse kept putting shots in my IV, but they were not helping. What an awful way to wake up from surgery. I did remind them of that for the next surgery to put the knee back in, and I woke up very slowly, but not screaming (or at least I don't remember doing that).

That’s great! I’m happy that you had a better surgery. The waking up without pain or panic was nice to hear. I’m one of those people that bad luck medically seems how it is. Really. Even my dr in my surgery and two week hospital stay last April-May said everything that could go wrong did. I didn’t have as extreme of an amputation as you, but I did have one. I then went into renal failure because of coming out of surgery and my heart rate went too low. Then biopsy, internal bleeding... sepsis and a picc or piic line -can’t recall spelling. Well, I was very sick and weak. It makes me relieved that this surgery for you was much better and I hope it continues to be :)

I'm sure you're doing this in the best way.. but when I had ankle surgery it really hurt to have the pressure of the ice on my incisions.. so they told me to put the ice under my knee and or really did a great job helping relieve that pain and the surgery pain. Something about the way it cools your blood as it flows to the problem area. I found it unusual, but super great. Just thought I'd share that tip.

!! I also wake up from anaesthesia in screaming uncontrollable fits! I wouldn’t even say I have any mental issues either. Last time (a few months ago) I woke up screaming in excruciating pain but also that kind of awake where I was vaguely aware where I was but couldn’t open my eyes or speak coherently or control myself? It’s such a scary and terrifying place to be.

I have problems coming out of anesthesia as well. I too get panicked and a big reason for that is I cannot see. They usually take your glasses and I get so disoriented. The last nurses did a thing and I had my glasses on until I went to sleep and when I woke up they were on. So much better. I was told they took them off in the middle. Seems like such a little thing but being able to see I felt so much safer.
Sorry about the blood. And love your cat.

I’m looking at the prospect of getting surgery this summer to treat my pain condition and it’s really frightening. I hope it does happen bc I want to not be in pain like this anymore but it’s also scary because the only surgery I’ve ever had was my wisdom teeth. Seeing you doing better every day makes it a little less scary and more positive

Surprised the nurses allowed that to go without a redressing, maybe because of free health care here in UK but I had a metatarsal amputation. Once I was home 4 days after the surgery, I had home visits every 2 days for a month and 2 a week for further 3 months, it took it's good sweet time healing.
I pays to have them check it regularly simply for infection, especially around the sutures which can be an easy in for infection as 2 of mine got infected

I hope that one day you will do a video on your PTSD. I have PTSD due to a car accident. It's so severe that to even be able to go out I need my service dog. It's very hard because there is this assumption that PTSD can only happen to soldiers. It makes me feel like I'm making it up or my PTSD isn't as bad as a veterans because it's just from a car accident. I would love to hear from someone else who also has non combat related ptsd

You should write a letter to the hospital "boss" about your experience. Several years ago I developed a bleed and came close to bleeding to death. I was really scared and spent several days in the hospital. The staff was really amazing and after I got home I sent a letter about that to their boss. He wrote back letting me know that he was very pleased that I felt so well taken care of, and that he would do something nice for the staff members I mentioned.
People like that usually only hear about it things that go badly. It's nice for them to hear when things go well, and it lets him know who is doing a good job for them.

🤣 Not laughing at you, but with you. Never had bandages fall off, but I have had my prosthesis come off...not once, but twice! So I’m kind of familiar with the “oh crap” feeling. Your sites look good though. Anesthesia and I are like quarreling spouses. My wake-ups are hit or miss, groggy and emotional or panicked and over-emotional. Things will be okay, and bumps are normal. But, bumps can be fun too. That slight moment when you may go airborne, your tummy in your throat, but total exhilaration. Keep blazing forward! You got this!

So glad your surgery went so well -great anesthesiologist (sp?)! My amputation went much easier than I expected (still emotionally shocking, however) and you were due for a less stressful experience.

So glad to hear that you have emotional/mental healing going on as well as the physical healing.
Your leg incisions are looking fantastic and healing so well, thank you for sharing that.
You've mentioned that the problems leading to the surgery were a result of a fall on a slippery floor, which sounds like negligence on their part, have you considered pursuing them to cover any financial costs you may have incurred through the fall?
Do you know if you are going to need a new socket, or should the old one still fit?
Continued prayers for your physical and mental healing, Jo.

Gurly I get you, I hate anesthesia and local anesthetics, I usually go into a panic attack before it's happening. Once woke up, passed back out, woke up again and tried to leave with the iv and monitor still on.

Anesthesia does weird stuff to your brain. My dad had hip replacement surgery.
When he started coming out of lala land, he was agitated and kept trying to lift his head up. My mom and doctor couldn't figure out what he needed. Then lightening hit my mom. Pre-surgery, my mom kept kidding my dad
that the doctor would put his foot on backwards. My mom told my dad his leg was perfectly straight, and my dad went immediately back to sleep. Every time he stirred she reassured him his leg was straight. What a mean mom I have!
