Fourteen years of pain and failed ankle surgeries brought me to 2018, when I made the difficult decision to become a twenty-seven-year-old below-the-knee elective amputee. This channel is to document my journey of amputation surgery, recovery, and reclaiming my life.

I really love your attitude, it's positive but also realistic. Your priorities are so on point too! Major concerns are the snacks! The one thing that really bugs me is checking in for surgery and the first thing they do is smile and ask how you're doing. I tend to be honest. My last surgery I had I looked at the person and gaven her a rundown on what they were going to do. She laughed as I looked at her and said "With all that do you want to take guess at how the hell I'm doing right now?" Thankfully she agreed it's a stupid question but she's required to ask it. That was the one thing that helped me relax!
It may sound strange but I hope you enjoy yourself. I figure if it's going to happen I might as well have the best time I can have! So please accept my gifts of great vibes and healing prayers. You will do great! PEACE!

Yes! You need to be your most aggressive advocate in your healthcare! So glad you said it. Planning is good as well (home, car, bills, etc). Drove myself to the bank this morning, and had my alone time with powers we don’t see. Sending you lots of positive vibes to you and your team. Applesauce...yum! ❤️

I hope your surgery heals very well, I am getting surgery in 6 days, very minor but I am still very nervous and I’ve had the same before. It’s most likely your positive attitude that has made me feel better about it, thank you xx.

I have passed out a lot on my past, so I now have a big fear of it. I had to go in for an MRI on my wrist. The numbing and the dye injection was my biggest fear and I told the whole team my worries and they were all so good about listening and keeping me calm and conscious!

I think I'm going in for number 18 shortly and had my preop today. For me it's something completely different to anything I've had before, so though I should be a pro I'm really not, so this video is very useful. I've ordered my repeat prescriptions and the laundry is in progress. I'm also selling my house, so the open house is scheduled for when I'm in hospital!

I have learned from previous surgeries to let the anesthesiologists know I get nauseated from anesthesia and they put some kind of medicine that takes care of the nausea. You probably already know this though. I’m am having surgery again next week. Wishing you all the best on your upcoming surgery!!

I actually just had a surgery on my shoulder this past weekend and still I have so much trouble staying still so this time my landlord has basically trapped me in my apartment so I would go out a do anything that can hurt me anymore then what pain I'm already in. I can go outside but as soon as I start getting into something I basically get dragged back to my room. It's like being on lock down but for my health. I hate it but I'm actually enjoying it a lot more then I expected so I thinks it's a good thing that he is doing this for me.

I think you are taking this surgery a lot better than I did for my amputation. I also think that if you get money for your videos you deserve it cause if you help just one person you deserve it. And that one person is me. I especially liked your video on mirror therapy, it is a complicated mind thing. Its based on belief and your mind. Thank god I'm fixing to get it from a professional. I'm a veteran and work at VA and they now offer mirror therapy. I thank god and would give anything to get rid of my phantom pain. It causes more problems than people realize. Thank you for what your doing. And hope your surgery went well.Stanley Griffin

I’ve had 14 surgeries. I have another one coming up May 1st, and wisdom teeth removal shortly after that, then my second knee surgery after that. It’s hard leading a normal life while having surgeries and living at a hospital an being home bound more than not. I’m almost 24 and I feel so behind in life. It’s hard to be positive and think positive with my illnesses causing all these surgeries. I definitely need to work on my mindset; however it’s hard while enduring mental illness as well. You are an inspiration to me and I wish I had friends I could actually talk to who experienced similar thinks that I have cause I have no one to relate to which makes it harder!
    Hope all goes well ❤️

Thanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I'm actually getting surgery soon, too. I am wondering if you could explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that freaks me out!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!

I have already had enough surgeries, thanks. But good luck to you in any case.
A true surgery story to help cheer you up.
I had to have surgery on my foot a couple of years ago. I checked into pre-op, was assigned a bed, got into bed and started preparing for surgery.
At one point the nurse came up with a Sharpee (marker) to mark the foot I was having surgery on. This is standard to avoid having the wrong foot worked on. I told the nurse that I didn't think it would be a problem and pulled my blankets up so she could see I was an amputee.
The look on her face got me to laughing. She looked like she had just committed the worst faux pas imaginable. The poor woman was so fluted she marked my foot anyway.
I had a Morton's something in my foot. Very painful, especially as I only had the one foot.

I had pins taken out of my ankle at 17. (They were put in when I was 9yo to make my ankle grow the correct way cuz it was growing wrong) and the 1# thing I learned is don’t let pain get ahead of you. Once it gets bad it can be really hard to bring it back to a manageable level.
Had to wait for my pain meds after my surgery. Didn’t have any when I was released (the pins being taken out was out patient) and I remember crying for like an hour till I got it back under control,

I’ve had a couple surgeries for chronic abdominal pain and I hate my anesthesiologist. It has been the same woman who has put me under every time and she never warns me before I’m going under. No count back from ten no nothing they just push the medication through my I.V. Or gas me with the anesthesia no warning and the next thing I know I’m awake in recovery with a nurse checking on me. I don’t know if this is a common thing but it’s very scary to just wake up with no knowledge of the past few hours and no warning beforehand.
